What a totally moronic move. I'm so fired up about this that I can't even begin to articulate how much of a tool I think he is.
Stupid freakin' jackass.

I was just explaining this to my wife... I am still not sure of all the details, but it looks like our space program is going to be shut down... not 100% but seriously devastated.

1000s are on the brink of loosing jobs and major launch/landing sites are going to be shut down or minimally staffed...

I have no idea where to begin with this either. You can argue all day about the need to explore space and why are we spending so much money doing it... *sigh*

To me, space exploration is something I will never be able to do in my lifetime. But I tremendously enjoy seeing our finest men and women launch into space and I cannot think but wonder what else lies on the horizon. There will be no horizon if we stop. I am so sick and tired of people destroying the greatest parts of this country. Complete BS.

From what I've read, they're going to use NASA to collect Global Warming data.

The constellation program lost funding entirely. Space Shuttles retire... no orbital shuttle saves this unmanned X-37 that the USAF finished developing.

What REALLY, REALLY, REALLY fires me up is this...

Total horse @#$!.

We are all going to perish on this rock, that's a given.....but someday we will need to send away a few examples of the remaining human race(and critters) to start a new colony.....far far away.100 more years is not enuf time to get that done. I just hope that the rock can support us till we do find a new one.

Why have a hugely expensive space program of your own?

You can use the European & Russian ones for a reasonable price.

Or just buy a cheap Chinese one.

Barack will say that in Titusville, and tell his San Fran supporters about the stupid people in the middle of the country who are bitter clingers, racist and mean.

He will tell whoever he is with what his people tell them they want to hear, be sincere, and utterly lie. ( except to the San Fran crowd, he meant that, and his Union buddies about socialized medicine, he meant that..... but if it's to YOU... he's lying. )

But that's a politician for you. ( an evil dishonest one....but his supporters will tell us that morality is relative. So have the supporters of other would be despots )

I think his trashing what little is left of the space program has more to do with foreign policy and a chunk to do with pretending to save money.

Mr grumpy asks a very good question. Why have an expensive space program?

Because he who has an orbital presence rules. He who owns the Moon owns the Earth. High ground rules. Period.

( note that ICBM's travel through space )

Barack does not like "victory". Or patriotism, American Exceptionalism, or the constraints of Constitutional governance. Really doesn't like that.

U.S. private companies are our last hope...if they are allowed to fly.

The sad thing is that the Spendulus Bill could have funded NASA for 35 years.

Here's the good news.

The President has positively identified the enemies of the United States.

Here's the bad news.

He is pretty sure it's you.

Got it now, everybody?

The Chicoms are getting ready to explore the moon and I believe they said they do not intend to do something as miniscule as bringing back a few rocks. They also have anti-sateliete missels. Before you know it we will be an ex-super power, much like Portugal or rome.

We don't need NASA and its super expensive space programs. We got SpaceX, a local builder of space vehicles in my hometown.

They successfully launched Falcon 1, a single rocket engined space vehicle, in 2008 and are currently preparing Falcon 9 for launch later this year.

Just watched "Apollo 13".........great flick.
SpaceX will never get beyond the moon(if even that far),let alone our solar system.
In time,NASA will get "out there" if we keep throwing money at it...............regardless of the reasons/waste or rules. I'd much rather spend tax money on space exploration.than sponsor Pelosi's commute cross country every week.

I've got the old NASA reports on the development of the Shuttle. The one we built was the down graded bargain model in some ways. The shuttle itself, is sized for military satellite programs as is the crew capacity, etc. Nothing wrong with that, but the boosters ( the Shuttle is a 2 stage/parrallel design ) were cheapened in concept from a reflyable winged ( Lockheed ) or Vtol ( Chrysler ) design to a partial throwaway design with refurbishable multi segment solid fuel boosters. ( that doomed the Challenger )

Bear in mind the govt. answer to "saving money" is usually to take a, for example, 10 million a year project to finish in 5 years and make it a 8 million a year project to finish in 12 years, then over runs and changes make it a 12 million a year program the first 7 years and 24 million in the last 12 years..... ( and the result is obsolete and in need of replacement.... so it begins again, usually in parrallel )

I really liked the Chrysler design...

http://www.pmview.com/spaceodysseytwo/spacelvs/sld 034.htm

The idea of classic Sci-fi rockets descending vertically to the space port at Kennedy Space Center with flaming rocket exhausts is almost irresistible.

Douglas built a real winner in the DC-X program but by that time the nih ( not invented here ) factor at NASA was total, and the prototype was destroyed in a stupid accident when a landing gear hose was left unhooked.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonnell_Douglas_DC- X

Later concepts such as Black Horse, a 1 1/2 stage to orbit design, fell on deaf ears. Using the simple principal that the first 40,000 feet uses a great deal of the total fuel consumed in getting to orbit, the Black Horse uses a smaller space plane that refuels in mid air, like modern fighters & bombers and can then have far smaller fuel tanks, and structure/size to hold them. A truly reusable design.

http://www.islandone.org/Launch/
(this second link is technical stuff...if you don't dig airplane math, skip it )
http://www.islandone.org/Launch/BlackHorse.html

Now we have an Apollo tech design that has not flown and probably never will.

Good luck & God speed to the SpaceX, & Rutan crews.
