Hey man, I recently had a similar problem w/ 4th gen Nano. I couldn't figure it out to save my life. My wife ended up finding a troubleshooting number on Apples online site. I actually talked to a REAL person and they walked me through it in under 5 minutes and had it working perfectly. I'd give that a start. Hope that helps!

I have used apple support many times for various problems(I think created by me) sometime I operate in the ID10T mode, I still haven't learned you have to be smarter the machine concept. I have also gone to the Apple store and used the Genius service. I have left there happy with the results and humbled. As there is no charge for the service.

I encountered a similar problem with a 17" flat screen iMac G4 and iPod iTouch. Plug in the iTouch to the comp and it would not even show up in the Finder let alone iTunes, but it would charge the iPod. Turns out the iMac needs at least OS 10.4.1 to work with the iTouch iPod, so I'll have to pony up and upgrade from 10.3.9 {sigh}.

I had the same thing happen to me. I think I must have invented at least a dozen new expletives over the 1/2 day I spent trying to figure it out. Then I saw the little teeny tag on the Belkin cable that said "Charging only". Felt like a tool...legitimately so!

Froggy, dude, I thought you didn't even use iTunes. Why are you in this thread? Or is it the same reason you're in the iPhone application thread? Do you troll on Japanese motorcycle boards? And believe me, there are plenty of companies *cough* Monster *cough* who charge exorbitant prices for cables. It certainly is not "only Apple".
