Neil, I don't believe there will be any need for Ben Gay at this event. I am still working on where and when to land. I will PM my cell to some of you all so we could coordinate a Thursday and Friday AM ride to Daytona if I land in Tampa. I will likely know that tomorrow.....or when we find out....where and when Court is buying lunch!!

For all the west Florida people, does Altoona at 10:30 sound good (SR 19 and CR 42 at the gas station on the NE corner)?

IF anyone wants to ride earlier, I'll be leaving my house (SW of Ocala) at about 9:00am.

I believe infield tickets are available at the Daytona USA attraction. $45 for ALL access to the infield/pit area (only place you can't go is hot pit or the track).

no reason why i couldn't be there by 1030 paint. i'll get up a little earlier to make sure i can scoot from work in enough time.

had it been a ben gay night vern i would truly consider spending the night.

Cool, is that $45 including the tent site access? And...available for purchase on-site?

..back to the garage, pulling a crank out of a 1991 Dodge engine....wheeeeee

Hey Neil, is that all it takes? I can make that happen!!..........Nah, you had better not, those anniversary things are more important than we all think!

Congrats on the 28 years! If it is like mine it feels like 470 years sometimes! It just goes on and on. (I tease my wife with this all of the time. Going on 24 years here). I am so glad she puts up with my crap!

Your are gonna have a hard time getting on hot pit. That area tends to be for race teams only. The 45 bucks got us into the pits and up to the fence right next to hot pit.....

someone like yourself should be able to BS your way into some type of Press Pass.....

Tim I sent you a PM.

My fate is in your hands now.

I will be camping at the track Friday night. I will camp Thursday night if it is the only night you can get there. Then we can do the other Friday am stuff mentioned in the PM.

Let me know so I can lay out my Thursday plan.

Far as I know, the infield passes can be bought at the Daytona USA place (near the T-4 entrance). The infield pass includes tent camping.

Damit. I want to go.
I mean.. I can, but I just have to decide, then figure out where I will sleep. Hotels are available and pricey near Daytona. (if I camp, I would have to buy gear which I can use again and again...tent/bag/pad) decisions decisions.

I can just pack my list from the Last Ride trip adding a tent/bag ...I could probably just buy the camping stuff or choose a hotel when I get down there.

Thurs and fri nights (maybe sat)
Camping 45.00 x2? (cold + no free coffee) get to keep tent/bag... and go home smelly (but well fed)
Hotel 65.00-150.00 x2, (warm + free coffee, warm showers, real bed. No tent or bag.

I could save my money but then I might kick myself for not going. Basically, I either come home smelly with a tent or clean with no gear.
(and I am still not 100% going)

Yes the showers are just outside of the tent camping area across from the RV's, if you want to pay 5.00 there is a trailer selling private hot showers right beside the restrooms at the campsite.
Sorry I couldn't run up with you Paintshaker, just missed you in the garage a couple of times. We came back last night.
I took a ton of pics posted them up on my Facebook page if anyone is interested....

Doesn't look like there are any camping sites left (at the track). If thats so, that eliminates one hurdle, now I just have to make the move. If I go,.. I will be leaving thursday morning (3-5am) and riding straight thru to a hotel bed in fl somewhere.

I am wondering if i will have the energy to pitch a tent after the ride.

There is open camping in turns 3-4 for tents. There is always room there.

Mark, we were just in the track Friday last year, right?

From the looks of it at this time I will be spending Thursday night back at my son's house in Tampa.

Neil or Adrian, I can catch either of you guys Friday morning for the ride to meet in Altoona. Shoot me an E mail with time and place to meet. Or do the old fashion thing and call me!

Thanks Etennuly, been a long day and continuing. I guess that the tent campsite is accessible and included in a normal Infield/Grandstand ticket?

Dumb question... my bike will be parked at my tent site?

Yep and Yep. And you will have access to the pit garage area, riders area, about everything except the hot pits and the track itself.

Neil, I am leaving this morning and expect to be at my son's before midnight. I will be able to ride around the Tampa area Thursday morning and afternoon. I have a dinner meeting at 6:00. I will be calling you about riding up to Altoona with you Friday morning.

Did I mention the weather front has dissipated and I am not taking the truck?
Uly all the way! I am stoked!

If we need a central "thing" to focus everyone on, I have a Buell crate cover I can roll up and bring along. Worst case I can drape it over my tent as a rain fly, so everyone can see where "we" are. I probably won't be at the track till Friday though...my drive-day from Maryland to FL is going to be Thursday and I'm spending Thurs night with family about an hour N of Daytona.

For the camping/smelling/gear debate...they have tents for like $35 at wal-mart. Get a GOOD sleeping bag, that'll run you about $100 (it's supposed to be COLD at night). I use a self-inflating camp pad, I want to say it was about $35 as well. Titanium is a bitch in the morning....can't sleep right on the ground anymore.

Good news about the cold, though...we won't be sweating / stinking : ) A college roommate from Long Island was always fond of the "Italian Shower" - 'bout half a can of aerosol deodorant right before class ; )

And I have to dig. I may have an old Coleman LP stove buried in my old gear at the back of the garage. If I do...someone bring a percolator and We Gots Coffee!!

Well, you guys are a bunch of positive thinkers!! It just may rub off on me. (won't know for sure till tonight or early am thursday)

I actually had my gear picked out in 2 different camping/sporting stores, my cart ready for checkout ... Tent, bag, pad, chair, saw, pocket rocket stove, cooking & eating gear... pages were open and ready to be purchased for more than a week. I am such a procrastinator. (now I have to redo it)

Sears and Walmart have tent/sleeping bag "kits". For about $70 you get a pretty decent tent (mine is 8x12)with two cheap sleeping bags, you can double them to stay warm. A mat is good, air mats can allow cold to get under you. I use my riding gear for a pillow with a bath towel as a cover.
