For a real show, I think we should push a death row inmate in the pool with ole Tilikum every day a 3:00pm. Maybe even get a TV deal to broadcast, proceeds going to the victim fund.

And I still don't know what actually happened? I've heard three different news reports on it.
First one said she slipped and fell in, second one said it jumped out of the enclosure and dragged her in by the waist
and the third said she flicked her ponytail which caught the whale's attention and it pulled her in.
Which was it?

This is #3 in a continuing series for this one killer whale.

Actually #4 according to a Sea World employee I heard on the radio yesterday. The Sea World employee (who's voice the scrambled)stated the whale grabbed her by the waist from the edge of the pool.

I built the broadcast system when they redid Shamu stadium in Orlando. I got to do a tour of the whales, dolphins, otters etc. This guy was HUGE. 12,300 lbs they said. Apparently no trainer is allowed in the pool with this whale. It's sole purpose is to make a couple laps around the pool at the end of the show, splash the audience and then wave good bye. This trainer was apparently to comfortable. The "she fell in" quote apparently is bogus...

It wasn't all that innocent. Coincidentally, I'm reading "Animals in Translation" - and there is MUCH to be discussed in predator animals who are triggered and revert to their hard-wired behavior - either in feeding or in territorial or in mating behavior.

quote:

She was still alive at the end of the first takedown after Tillikum let her go. But he watched as she tried to get to safety and then grabbed her again and held her for another minute underwater, this time apparently killing her. He then settled at the bottom of the pool, keeping her in his mouth.

This was not just a "clean" drowning - but pretty bloody.

A shame all around.
