Duh! A killer whale is not meant to live in a fish tank. Are we surprised of the news? I'm not.

This is #3 in a continuing series for this one killer whale.

Wonder if they would be sweeter if we called them "warm fuzzy whales?"

In all fairness, incident #2 can't REALLY be pinned on the whale...

Gotta respect animals on their own turf! I can't see why people are surprised when they're attacked by sharks, bears, whales etc... they're WILD animals!!

I think its time to retire that whale to a tank where it won't be asked to do tricks. I' mean for real if it kills a 4th person we should throw the park owner in the tank.

If this were a dog they would have put it down after number 1. Should we really be using whales for cheap circus shows? How long could a food shelter make soup from this whale?

Just throwing things out there...

No way to know what the whale was thinking, but treating an animal like that as if it were a house pet is just not smart. I wonder if a stun gun would have helped.

I agree with Tbolt, these are WILD animals, not something to do parlor tricks for our amusement. Although I am admittedly amused when they do parlor tricks, but I digress.

A chimpanze rips, literally rips, a womans face off, Roy's tiger almost kills him and a KILLER whale kills a trainer. These are just a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Depends on the wild animals. Dolphins don't have an issue with it and they can kill you at will if you're in the water with them. They just don't. And neither do whales for the most part. This one is just plain unfriendly it seems.

Doubt a stun-gun would have done much BTW She was most likely done the second the jaws closed. I would be surprised if her spine wasn't snapped almost immediately.

A stun gun in a salt water tank would have been more entertaining than the original whale show I would think : )

This sort of thing has happened with dolphins too. There have also been people almost killed by dolphins when they get horny and start trying to get their freak on.

Absolutely right but as i said the jaws on a killer whale have a bite strength in excess of 5000 PSI. That would snap any bone in the human body very easily as i believe the femur can withstand aprox 2000 psi
She was most likely paralyzed in seconds.

I think that a better way to look at it is how many people have swam with dolphins since October? I mean there are probably thousands all over the world that have as opposed to very few trainers with the killer whales.

A viewer emailed the local news here last night suggesting that their coverage of this event gives viewers the "unfair and biased impression that these whales are viscous predators." I found my wife staring at me because I had just yelled at the tv- "they're friggin KILLER whales for god's sake- the mother effin apex predator of the ocean!"

I apologized for yelling.

As it turns out a killer whale is actually a dolphin.

quote:

The killer whale (Orcinus orca) is largest species of dolphin family

So I guess a trainer just got killed by a dolphin yesterday.

Yes they are the top of the food chain int the ocean. However Killer Whale is a bit much (as far as humans are concerned.) I believe last i read there was aprox 2 dozen Orca attacks on humans recorded. Of that half were in captivity. Hardly a danger.

To be fair if you put me in a cage and I would bite you as well. : )

There was a show on Animal Planet or Discovery or one of those channels about a month ago about a Killer Whale killing and eating a Great White Shark.

Now any animal capable of doing that should be given a TON of respect.

You ask for a bottle nose dolphin or something close and I give you a dolphin.

Sorry but I'd rather bite Flipper.
