I have a very odd request for a personal favor. I have an image that has been forwarded from cell phone #1 to cell phone #2 to cell phone #3 to PC. There is no way to get ahold of the original and if possible I need the photo enhanced well enough to hopefully read some text. I know this is a crazy request. If you think you have the ability and also feel like messing with this please pm me.

If the data is there I can extract it.

I'm sure Danger is far more qualified for this than my part-time photoshop skills make me, but I'd be happy to try too!

Unfortunately the down-sampling to phone resolution made it unrecoverable.

All I could offer was enlarged and sharpened smudges.

Of course, without seeing the file, it is hard to know what might be possible to recover from it.

Badly blurred files will not respond to the sharpening tools in Photoshop.

Forensic deconvolution soft ware like Focus Magic is more appropriate, as it is a much more complex program that reconstructs the image from the out of focus information, instead of just trying to sharpen it.

Here is an example:
ff

Of course it requires quite a bit of time, and operator skill as well.

Here is a link to the company:

And no, I haven't purchased it yet because there is no Intel Mac compatible Photoshop Plug in yet. Could possibly be run under Rosetta.

It is also a superb, if slow program to do general sharpening.

PS: You can download a demo and give it a try, but it's not the easiest program to use, and I would be surprised if there were much data left on a third generation cel phone file.

Ooooh - I like 'magic' - Not enough data unfortunately - even for an interpolating algorithm to work with.
Image had been down sampled to 240px and the target area was reduced to a patch of pretty much identical pixels.

I don't think that photo story is accurate - there isn't nearly enough zany zooms and pull away shots at weird angles - or pictures of brick walls and fire escapes.
