I just learned an iPhone trick: depress the front button and power button at the same time it does a screen capture. Look at the "camera roll" and a beautiful pict of your current screen is right there, almost magic! Great for all sorts of things!

Any body have any tips or tricks to share about the iPhone operation/ function?

TIA
Neil S.

From what I have read, Apple is dead set against Flash. They blame it (with good reason) for the vast majority of Mac crashes. They consider it a proprietary defacto Internet standard, so they are pushing actual standards for video etc. like html5. I believe they would like to see Flash shrivel up and die. So although the pictures of the new iPad floating around out there (even on apple's web site) showing web pages displaying flash content would seem to indicate that they are moments away from supporting it, I wouldn't hold your breath.

here's one:
In settings/general/accessibility, there is a zoom option. When turned on, double tap the screen with three fingers and it'll zoom the entire screen. Do it again to return to normal.

Flash? So my browser can get bogged down on simple sites while I "get to" see banners and videos that make my phone and internet connection screech to a halt? No thanks.

...I don't own an iPhone, gots me a Palm Pre, which will have flash support in a couple of weeks- cant wait to disable it.

In safari, if you hold down the ".com" key, it will give you the ".net", ".org", and ".edu" option too.

Nice Hoot! I never noticed that. Court, are you sure some weren't from the opposite party? Where were you at when they were dropped? That stinks; I know coverage can get kinda cheeky in some big buildings for me.

I agree. 90% of my browser crashes on my PC, and 80% of the lockups on my Nokia N800 Tablet are due to Flash. The thing is, I can at least take the risk, I don't have Apple nannying me telling me its not safe to go outside and then wrapping me with bubble wrap.

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak complains about dropped calls too. Google for iPhone dropped calls, it is almost like the AT&T switchboard is doing it intentionally out of boredom.

I tried to warn you Court! : )

"I would like to know the trick to get Flash player to work."

Get a Blackberry and download a browser called "Bolt".

I've heard some of the higher end blackberrys support flash on their own browser. I wouldn't know as I've only had the 8330 and 8520 - both curves and both on the lower end of the Blackberry spectrum.

The iPhone is a shiny toy. If you want a secure, functional, reliable smartphone - Blackberry can't be beat.

I had an iPhone. It was a great device, but the service sucked. I switched to a Motorola Droid with Verizon, and I am never going back.

Court - You ought to give a Droid a shot. It's a very "rugged" manly construction worker type phone.

There are LOTS of complaints about the AT&T coverage in NYC. Too many users not enough bandwidth

Nail -> Head

Dropped calls have nothing to do with the Iphone and everything to do with AT&T's service. I am hearning about so many people switching away from AT&T, I wonder how long they will let that go on?

Because of the work I do, I do know that AT&T is buying a LOT of high bandwidth equipment to put in their wireless systems, so hopefully better service will come soon.

Here in Northern Alabama, I rarely drop a call with my Iphone, if ever. But there are a fraction of the users here than in New York. I also don't recall many dropped calls when in Atlanta, where there are a LOT more users on the network.

I have no experience with the AT&T network in New York though.

I have not "iphone tricks" to pass along though... sorry...}

it's NOT the phone, it's the service provider! AT&T is just not that good and that is the only problem I see with the iphone.

Expanding on the screen capture function. Once you have the photo in your library you can view it, and zoom in to the picture as if you wanted to crop a portion, then take the screenshot again and you'll get your "cropped" version

Court:

Color me curious, when you drop your calls how many bars are showing? B4 the iPhone & AT&T, who was your carrier?

There is an app called "Mark the spot" that enables you to tell AT&T where you are having problems and what they are. I use it around here and I hope they are doing something with my reports.

I have "Mark the Spot" and am marking each one. In addition "Mark the Spot" sends a text confirmation that allows you to respond. I respond each time so that if I bail I have an easy out of the early termination fee.

I'll have to watch the bars closer but I **think** I've dropped calls with a full set of bars.

I had Verizon before. They are a pain in the ass to deal with but the phone service is top notch.

I learned a neat trick on shutting off the 3G capability which helps in NYC. Browsing is a bit slower but you're off that network that had the 4,000% increase on the day they introduced the iPhone.

Part of the problem is that there are likely as many iPhones in NYC as in the other 47 states.

There was a news story about AT&T doing something the other day as a result of the continuing service complaints. In New York the state takes in interest . . .

When using the calculator, holding the phone vertical gets you a simple calculator, turning the phone horizontal gets you a scientific calculator (sin, tan, etc)

I hear alot of people up north complain about at&t but in many places in louisiana and texas at&t is the only service provider that has service. I have lots of family that lives out in the middle of nowere and I would never get service with any of the other providers weither it was t-mobile, sprint or verizon, but at&t always has signal.

Since me and my wife got our iphones and at&t i do not see us switching to anyone eles for quite sometime.

Verizon has great service in cities because there are not as many users as AT&T but that will change as more more people switch. As far as coverage AT&T is the only carrier with service everywhere outside of the city, Im from eastern Kentucky and have great service back home everywhere I go. No other carrier will pick up there.
