I have a guy interested in buying a bike from me. He lives in Sweden. This does not seem like a scam - i've gotten lots of those and this doesn't have the same tone to it. He's not asking to give me more money than I'm asking and pass some one to someone else or ship the bike before I get paid.

All I'm looking for is people's opinion of the best way for him to pay me. I suggested having someone he knew stateside just me give me the cash so there's no worries, but he doesn't know anyone near me. He suggested PayPal, but I don't know how it would with getting the money out. Just looking for ideas on this...

Wire transfer. Ask your bank. They're more used to it in Europe than we are here.

I've done it on some kinda high dollar camera gear. Problem for the US paranoid kinda person is giving up your account info - but talk to your bank or credit union. It's actually pretty simple. You'll have to agree on which one of you pays the wire transfer costs.

Paypal is secure but you need to check how much the fees will be to add on to the buy price. Go to paypal's site to check.

I bought a pickup some years back & did it by bank transfer; I think all you need to give him is the IBAN code.
But check with your bank.

If you know his name & address, google him to see what comes out, also you can go to the online telephone directory for Sweden to see if he's in it. It all helps establish the bona-fides.

He can paypal the cash to you, and then you can have paypal deposit it in your normal bank account. Paypal will skim a little off the top.

I sold my XLCR and XR-1000 to a guy in Turkey. His brother arrived in a Budget rental van with a Sampsonite briefcase of 100's . . . . that worked nicely.

Wire transfer.

Done everyday . . . . they'll need routing number, ABA number and account number.

If you are nervous have the wire transfer done to your banks account FFT (for further transfer) to yours.

My "rule of thumb" is that nothing "paperwork or bike" leaves my sight until I am holding green currency in my hand.

For what's it's worth . . . . I never tell them . . .until they call when they get within 2 miles . . . where the bikes are.

But hey . . that's just me.

Haha, yes, good point. This guy contact me about the bike back in November and I told him I'd rather pass - he just e-mailed me again via another forum about the same bike.

Thanks for the tips, Court, I was curious if I could have the money transferred to a "bulk" account to limit access to my personal account. I'll have to ask, but it sounds like I have some good options here.

You let him now how much all the costs are and let him pay via pay pal ,but now more than 2999 dollar at the time (above that amount there is a chance they going to check you!)
You organize the transport and shipping etc ,or let someone do that for you
And he pay,s for all your work and time before it is loaded.

That,s the way i did it with buying a jeep in the usa some years ago,
and also last year with two other cars!
Everything went well for me!!

Don't do Pay Pal.

The buyer can easily put a false claim against you, and get a refund, even though he has the bike.

I have had many international wire transfers, and no security problems. You many want to discuss it with your bank first.

Do NOT accept any checks, even Bank Checks.
Too many forgeries, and you can not only lose your money, but you can get arrested for trying to cash one.

As mentioned above, get verifiable information on the buyer first.

Good luck.
Be careful.
