that the slowest, most conservative rider in the group is the one who ended up with a ticket?

I went for a ride with some buddies today. My first ride of any length in way too long. We found some backroads and were having a really nice ride, then we saw the blue lights.

The ironic thing is that the guy who got the ticket was the last in our group of five. He always lags behind and had let a truck pulling a trailer get between him and the rest of the group. He decided to pass the truck just as the officer came around the bend. The ticket was for passing on a double yellow. Which is the only way to pass on those roads, as they are double yellow constantly.

Anyway, I was laughing at him until I found out it is going to cost him $160 plus driving school to get the points taken off.

Oh well, a great day otherwise.

Crossing the D.Y.L. is how people get killed.

Sorry, no sympathy from me, on this one.

Dave, couldn't agree more about the tassles.

I also agree that crossing the dyl can get you killed. It may not be apparent in my photo, however, but the road was straight and pretty flat in this section. I can assure you my buddy would not have passed on the dyl if he didn't have a sufficient sight line. Anyway, I wasn't looking for sympathy, I was just sharing a story I thought was ironic.

Teeps-
Look at how long that double yellow is. Some counties put them everywhere to cut down on their liablility. I even see a lot of cars pass on them in my travels due to how ridiculous they are.
The problem I see is that when there are that prevalent, that people just cross them without thinking.

Dyna, I know how it is in FL with those DYL. Some places are just crazy with where they are. Flat, straight and no passing. Come on....

DYL also has to do with access and speed limits. Looks like the pic has quite a few driveways...that's why no passing. Don't want folks hammering the gas with all those residential entrances.

Smack him in the (unprotected) head for passing on a double yellow....WITHOUT A HELMET.

I know. FL has no helmet law.

Physics does.

I used up a fullface in July '08. It's a pet peeve of mine (and I'm lucky I can still think, not to mention type and ride - and walk, but that wasn't the helmet).

Double yellows can be rather conservative, especially for fast accelerating bikes. Just saying.

I enjoyed your amusing ironic story. : )

Rat, I didn't mean for this to get into a debate about passing on yellow lines. BUT, there weren't many access points on the road, AND he was wearing a helmet until he got stopped. I took the photo while the officer was sitting in his car writing up the ticket.

I understand you guys don't know my buddy. Maybe that is why you are focusing on things like his tassels (that I don't care for either), and the fact that he did pass on a yellow line, which in fact can be dangerous. But if you knew him, you would know he is actually a very conservative rider. That is why he is always falling behind. He only passed where he did because he believed it was safe. After all, the truck was going pretty slowly and he could accelerate past it pretty quickly.

Oh well, the story was funny to me anyway.

And hey Neil, I am sending you a PM right now.
