An option just popped up for me to purchase a 2008 Mz 1000sf for dirt cheap. I've heard they were a German company but as of earlier this year was shut down. Does anyone happen to know if these are good motorcycles or not? They're stylish as all hell and have good power but I know nothing of maintenance on one, nor do I know of any bike fixers who work on them.

Any knowledge on them would be excellent, Thanks much, Steve.

Steve- I read a good bit about them when I was first looking for a bike about 8 years ago. I know they were originally made in East Germany, so they were pretty low-tech until recently. After re-unification, I think they became decent motorcycles. They made several 660cc models which used a Yamaha-sourced 5-valve single. They had a dual-sport, a motard, and sort of a sport-tourer that looked pretty cool. The last thing they came out with was a large displacement parallel twin and I read a road test on that in some motorcycle mag. It did pretty well from what I recall. There's a decent article on the company at wikipedia:

Are you trying to start a discontinued motorcycle manufacturer collection?

Considering I'm still hanging onto my Aprilia, no I wouldn't say I'm collecting discontinued bikes, it might be a good idea though down the road since some antique exotic motorbike collector will pay booku deniro for them. And yes, it is the parallel twin, it's somewhat comparable to my RSV4 in a sense, but comparing Italian bikes to German bikes is like comparing Apples to Oranges.
