I wonder if these two are the ones who drilled through the ECM not too long ago?

Well... At least it made lots of smoke. Definately a clutch. MOD shows $700 list for the clutch kit (pressure plate and disc) and the flywheel. Honestly, it's cheaper than a clutch on an SVT Focus...

In my day, we didn't run anything that could make over 400 hp without a scattershield or a transmission blanket. Horse power isn't free and can be dangerous without knowledge. These guys are paying for their experience, luckily without getting hurt.

Before cell phones and everyone carrying a video camera, a dirt track I frequented would run a street vehicle race during intermission. A one lap drag race between two street cars for money. After a while it got to where people were setting up the cars to win, so they might run them in the opposite direction.

It was a fun thing to watch as some guys with their hot-rod muscle cars would bump into each other causing hundreds of dollars in damage and usually some big fights when they got back in the pits.

One Saturday a young fellow decided to race his boss's new company truck he had been charged with taking home for the weekend. He couldn't resist racing the big block 3/4 ton chevy. He was faster than the car he ran against, until the first corner where it ended upside down kinda like the red truck posted above, but he was going into the corner so fast, as the right front tire dug into the track, it shot up into the air about twenty feet landing flat on the roof. It crushed all four roof posts flat. They had to roll the truck back over onto it's wheels and tear the roof off with two wreckers to get the kid out.

Isn't it ironic that both vidoes of the clutch blowing out, happen to be at a mechanic shop?

Both are in American cars, both with the same 7 Liter LS7 engine, both 6 speed manuals. Both trying to burn up the tires. Both are left hand drive too!

Not true..... Both are LS7's and 427's. But the 2007 Vette in which that is what that is above is a small block in which is what GM did with the Vette that year.

I am confused, what did I say wrong? The 06-2010 Z06 has the LS7, according to the TA video, he has a LS7 swapped into his. The LS7 is the largest displacement small block GM offers.

I am a GM nut by the way : )

If you are a GM nut Froggy then you would know that the pre 2007 ZO6 Vette's had a 427 big block. The 2007 has a 427 small block. Does that Video say what year LS7 he swapped..... NO!!! I'd bet on the big block because the tranny would be the same mount. My Brother Inlaw had a semi tweeked 2006 zo6. He now has a 2008.

The C5 Z06 had the LS6, a 350 ci (5.7L) small block. Confusingly LS6 was also the designation given to the last big block available in a production corvette back in the 70s.

Source? Quick search on Wikipedia shows the 5.7 LS6.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvette_C5 _Z06

2004 Z06 Specs
http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2004/chevrolet/corv ette/z06_coupe/1799/specifications/index.html

There was a 454 inch LS7 big block from the 70's, but that clunker isn't in either of the cars in the videos above.

Your brother in law has two Z06's and a Porsche? /jealous

http://www.rsportscars.com/chevrolet/2007-chevrole t-corvette-z06/

Which reads.....

The all-new LS7 of the 2007 Z06 reintroduces the 427-cubic-inch engine to the Corvette lineup. Unlike the previous 427 engine, which was a big-block design, the new 7.0-liter LS7 is a small-block V-8 - the largest-displacement small-block ever produced by GM and a tribute to its 50 years as a performance icon.

And no my Brother owns a twin turbo Porcshe. My Brother inLAW had a 2006 ZO6 tweeked. He now has a 2008 ZO6. Froggy you must read my friend.

Sorry, there hasn't been a "Big block" available in a passenger car of any type since 1976. The C5 Vette had a 350 LS1 series engine which is still the same engine series now at a 427" displacement.

The heads and block are dimensionally identical with the valves in a straight wedge configuration. Even though it's a 427, it's a small block. When they raise the hood you can tell it's an LS series engine.}

Oh yeah you better read the specs for a 2006. It was slated as a big block. What I typed in my last post was a copy and past from a spec sheet on the 2007 model. Or am reading that wrong???

You're reading it wrong. It says the previous 427 was a big block, which is correct; the LS7 is the first production small block 427. It does not say the C5 Z06 Corvette had a big block 427, because it didn't. All Corvettes from 1997 to present are powered by Generation IV small blocks.

Yes, you're reading that wrong. I was a Chevrolet dealer tech and worked on enough of those I would have noticed if it was a wide valve cover big block.

Only way to get a big block over the last thirty+ years was to get a 2500 series truck excepting the short run 454SS trucks from the ninties.

When they said the previous 427 they were referring to the 427 from the sixties that ended with the 1969 model year, GM hasn't produced a production 427 until the current variant.

The C5 had a 5.7 engine, then that changed to a 6.2 engine and the 7.0 debuted in the 2007 model year.

I got it.... now I understand why my Brother Inlaw traded in. He said something about new engine. I see him very little bacause he and my Sister don't live near. I'm really not a Vette fan. Not knocking them. Just way to many of them around by me.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan either. Put plug wires on a C4 with the LT1, or a clutch in a C5-C6 car and whatever like you had goes away.

"Sorry, there hasn't been a "Big block" available in a passenger car of any type since 1976. "

I know that the 1978 Lincoln Mark V had the 460 ci engine which certainly qualifies as a BIG block. Better move your notebook up a couple of years.

While not in passenger cars, you could still get the big block in various years of Chevy pickups. My dad has an 02 with the 8.2L

Well – at least we can agree the original video was not of a burnout. However, it did contain a corvette with a V8, manual transmission, was operated by a moron who could not tell you what burning rubber smelt like and was not filmed by friends. If they were friends, notice the moron calls the Vette “ours”…that is a tight nit breeding group.

I love that the camera “man” walks back and forth across the bow while the pile is trying to lurch forward.

The dipshit in all his excitement/stupidity (nervousness) probably left the emergency brake on and cancelled the brake bias of the hydraulics…after all he did state that was only the “first test”.

Good thing they were not playing with guns.

We're talking Chevrolet here. Pontiac had a 400 available well into the 80's and everyone called that a big block, even though there was no differentiation between any of the Pontiac engines from the 273 to the 455. The Olds 403 is in there too.

No real matter, dude in the Vette is a moron. The speedometer didn't go up, the trac light would have been flashing in his face, and his friends left him hanging by not telling him the smoke was from under the car, not his tires.
