Is it me or is the body work on that VR1000 ugly. I don't know who did the fairing cosmetic design work on the front and tank, but it looks like they sculpted a nice looking unit. Then rounded the hell out of everything to give it some sort of retro racebike GP look. It's goofy look'n...Just a thought. I do like the look of the twin exhaust though, it's old school but nice... |

"Its you. The VR1000 looks old school because it is." Sorry, Buellinachinashop... 15+ Odd years old is NOT what I consider old school... And what, you think it's sexy? NOT I agree it looks like something Homer Simpson dreamed up, LOL. (Message edited by jasonnennig on December 14, 2009) |

Shameless plug. I am trying to sell a VR1000. It is listed in the motorcycle classifieds. You could have one in your garage! |

Hey John, I think you like that VR1000 because it has the early edition of you beloved V-Rod motor in it...I guess I can live with that, but it's still UGLY man. |

Remember also that the VR1000 came out in 1996. ALL 14 year old bikes look goofy compared to now.

I own a 1996 GSX-R 750's (first year of the SRAD). It was one of the Best bikes I have EVER owned...I still like the styling. I think it's it's heads and tails above the VR1000 in the looks department ...I think most people then really liked it too, Suzuki sold a ton of them. Jasonnennig , I may be wrong, don't think I am, but the VR1000 and Vrod share almost nothing in common. HD sure tried to convince people otherwise though. Had to show something from all the time and $$ spent on the racing program. And from what I remember reading years ago, Willie G had a hand in the styling of the VR1000 front plastic. The race bike looks good, the street version, not so much. I think it is the frame. |

Great pics. I wonder what ever happened to the 50 VR's that went to Poland? How many people got to watch Pascal melt that sucker down after its last race at VIR? Good times. |

I THINK you might be wrong 4cammer. The VR1000 and the V-Rod share the same motor. The V-rod mill has been updated a bit. It has a little more displacement but the structure is the basically the same. Harley wanted to use the tech. in the VR1000 unit and that's how the V-Rod mill came into being. I could be wrong but I don't think so if my memory holds... |

I really dig the white and orange M2! I was a Tilleys a few months ago and saw my first VR1000 in person, and they also had Lucifer's Hammer on a lift, getting it ready for I think the HD traveling museum. That was a reall cool bike to see, need to get back down there and take a few pics... Thanks for the photo tour! |

The white/orange M2 is BY FAR the best looking one of the group. I got a spare set of bodywork just waiting for a paint job onto my orange framed M2. |

Sorry, but I gotta agree that the pic of the VR1000 looks like a Road Glide had a love child with the old gixxer pic above. |

The VR1000 and the V-Rod share the same motor. I thought the V-rod motor was built from the ground up for the V-rod, with help from Porsche. There was a whole discovery channel hour long show about it. |

Pretty sure the V-Rod plant is a reworded VR1000 motor. Coveted by Erik until they made it 60 lbs too heavy. |

^^^HD mucked up the motor with trying to make it look HD. I heard it added more like 75 lbs. VR1000 didn't look Harley enough. Can you imagine how successful Buell would have been to come out with a VR1000 based XB in 1992-1993 instead of wait until now with the Rotax 1125? Thanks HD...Enjoy all your Vrod sales. Maybe I see it wrong |

ALL 14 year old bikes look goofy compared to now. Ummm....maybe I'm biased, but....really? I don't call this goofy at all....
Also, the VRSC powertrain *was* designed from a relatively clean sheet, by HD and Porsche. It used some of the VR's concepts...but it was not "based" on that engine, just on its concept. Awesome pictures. I need to add that tour to my list. |

According to Allan Girdler in "The Harley Davidson Century"..."Next, the V-Rod was introduced...It's water cooled, powered by a 1,000-cc, 60-degree V-twin. That aside, it has nothing in common, not one part or piece, with the VR-1000." And the reason this means anything to me is that I remember when the V-Rod was introduced HD attempted to sell the idea that the development (or lack of...) of the VR1000 racing program spawned the V-Rod and its powertrain. BS. They wasted years and million$$ on the VR program and had zero to show for it. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harley-Davidson_VRSC- Read the link on VSRC History 4cammer...Nothing in common??? That's how engine development works. Take an design, with years of development, and tweek this and change that to get to what we have now...The current V-Rod motor. |

Yea, the same could be said about the 1125 motor, if you want to use such loose criteria to define an engine as an evolution as opposed to a fresh design. |

More correctly put...Take a failed engine design that millions were spent on and try to make it work as a street engine...when that failed, bring in the outside engineers to figure it out...Oh...and don't confuse the production V-Rod engine with the Screamin' Chicken ProStock drag "V-Rod" engine....They are completely different. |
