I started these walls in the beginning of summer, and it took me three months of random (when I had it) time. The walls are 100% hand made except for the stone of course. All mortar for the stone was hand mixed. I think it looks great. So does the customer. Anyone else get a big project completed that makes you stand back and smile?
Especially with a Buell parked in the middle! |

looks like a great job gunut. got any close ups that we can see. i've always been a meticulous person and can very much appreciate a good craftsman. my pride'n joy was probably the restoration of the stairs at the tampa train station opened in 1912 i believe. i through a hissy fit at my super when i saw the painters throw big globs of caulk on my already tight joints. he had it fixed. |

I built a boathouse in my backyard this year. The DNR says I live on a waterway (the dry ditch in my backyard). I wanted a shed, they said no, so I got a permit for a boathouse. I spent half the summer getting permits and 2 months building it. |

Heres a few more pics for the close ups.
These came from the same camera, at the same time. Not sure why they arent the same size as the first pic. I'll fool with them tonight and see if I can stretch them. |

I helped my darling wife to get up the courage & self confidence to go for a new job, & she got it! I also managed go get her to wear a short dress & knee length boots. (If you knew my mrs you'd understand the acheivement) It was at her company's Christmas "do" & her friends & colleagues were astounded. Not quite one of those make-over shows but you get the idea. My other BIG achievement this summer, didn't crash. |

I built this. http://www.ourladyofangelscc.org/Construction.htm I am a carpenter for the contractor that did the construction and had a hand in all phases. I especially enjoyed the Built - on - site trusses and the finish work. |

Still working on my "Summer" project, dubbed The Man Cave, aka Blake's Backyard Erection. Possibly soon to be renamed "Blake's Amazing Backyard Erection". I'm really enjoying it. Job #1 was coring for and pouring 16 reinforced concrete piers all in mid-Summer E. Texas glory.
Before the piers were poured, the two to four feet deep holes in the ground took their toll on the local fauna. I rescued a toad, snake and a lizard (blue tailed skink), but another toad was cooked before I noticed him. Survivor man might ought to try just digging holes to catch food. Sorry, no pics. Too much perspiration to carry the phone on-person at that time. The GroundHog HD99 Hydraulic Earth Drill came in REAL handy. Broke my wheel barrow and my hoe mixing concrete. How many of you tough guys can say that you broke your hoe? Delivery of Mueller 24x24 Shop Building Kit
This is vitally important work. New tools must be had.
Still have a welding machine on the list. Once the roof is on, we'll go shopping for that.

You should be more careful with your backyard erections if you're breaking the hoe. (Message edited by gowindward on December 11, 2009) |

Let the Erection Begin!
Pier & Beam: About 3 tons of concrete, 1/2 ton of W8x10 steel beam, and 30 feet of embedded 1/2" anchor rod
Four inch deep floor joists. These will be covered with 1-1/8", 9-ply tongue and groove plywood decking in the center span, and 3/4" plywood elsewhere.
Roof Beams
Apply adhesive film, cut and hang metalized vinyl backed insultation, apply weather sealing foam strips, dry off and hang another panel (screw, screw, screw, and screw some more), repeat.
Panel, Nightime Lighting, & Perspective
Cover top edge every evening in case of rain.

"You should be more careful with your backyard erections if your breaking the hoe." I think I actually cracked the handle some years ago when I hit the bitch next door. |
