I send A note to Erik las night I don't remember the exact words, but something to the effect of best of luck with EBR thank you for giving us and American motorcycle company to cheer for and ps my xb12scg kicks a$$!

the reply
Thank you Thomas. We really did try hard to make better and better bikes every year. Buell motorcycles really were world class. I just had to start this new company to help prove it on the track where so many sportbike guys are focused!"

I'm sure he has alot of things going on and the fact he took time to send me A response is pretty damn cool in my book.

What other company head would do that...he truly does care about the support he gets and that in my book is worth A TON OF RESPECT.

I hesitate to share this, but it's way to cool not to!
A couple of days after the announcement of the closing of Buell I added Erik Buell to my facebook list, not knowing really if he would add me. I was shocked the next day when i found he had. At that point there was something to the effect of 30 friends on his list, over the last month that # has gone well over 500 people. People post and he responds to them every night. Class act, you have no idea!

I sent Erik a message just to say good luck in whatever the future held, and at the same time made a special request that i did not expect to happen.

At the beginning of the race season my wife had found an autographed Danny Eslick poster, which became even cooler when Eslick won the championship. I asked Erik if I mailed the poster to him if he would add his signature to it. I honestly didn't really expect a response.

The next day I received an email from Erik that simply said, " I'd love to, but hurry we're not here much longer!"

I couldn't get the poster in the tube fast enough! We exchanged a few more emails over a week or so, and the last one just said, "Kim sent it out today.". Do you have any idea how long 4 days feels!

During my wait EBR was announced, and I made sure to send an email of congrats, and once again was sent a response.

I couldn't wait to see what he had put on the poster, I assumed it would be the signature "Best of Roads" that i've seen so many times before. What I got was only slightly different, but meant a lot more. Check it out:

So is Erik a "class act"? In my book absolutely! He could have at any time gave me an "i'm too busy" or just not responded at all, but he didn't. This single thing made me love owning my bike all over again, and once again proved these are the things about Buell some people just "Didn't get". I can't wait to shake the mans hand at homecoming and thank him all over again! Thanks Erik!

I do too. You're smart . . but the negativity and mean spiritedness is simply overwhelming. I'm old. Years ago I'd have jumped in the tussle. These days, with so many positive things happening, who needs the bullshit?

>>>>He could have at any time gave me an "i'm too busy"

I've known him for nearly 25 years and have never seen him do that.

Good news . . .he's "home alone" this week and I'll be a lot of folks are getting responses at 4AM.

I asked EB to add me to facebook too. It took him only a couple of hours to reply and he passed on a personal comment too. I am still amazed he will take the time to acknowledge each of us.

While I am not into hero worship, I do admire nice people (I'd like to be one when I grow up).

I am looking forward to meeting him at Homecoming - Hey! Do you have your banquet tickets yet?
(They paid me to ask you that! LOL)

i'm with you on that, i got a very nice personal letter that i wasnt all to sure i'd even get, but i had to give it a shot. a while back i got on asking how to contact Erik b/c i earned my eagle scout, and for my court of honor was wanting a letter from Erik, this is the letter that i wrote to him...

Dear Mr. Buell,

Hello, please let me introduce myself. My name is Ian and I am almost 18 years old (in another month). I am a senior at Brimfield High School in Brimfield, Illinois. I am writing to you to make a request that hopefully you can honor. I recently earned my rank of Eagle in my Boy Scout Troop. I am very proud of this personal accomplishment, for only 3% of all boys who ever enter Boy Scouts ever make it to the rank of Eagle. It has taken a very great deal of dedication, work, and perseverance, which are some of the same qualities you possess and have used in your company. I started out in scouting as a Cub Scout when I was in grade school, basically for the sheer fun of it. When I earned my Arrow of Light and moved up to Boy Scouts, I soon realized if I wanted to obtain the goal of Eagle, I would have to work very hard and learn as much as I possibly could on my journey to the top rank in scouting. I have done and seen many different things I would have never been able to experience without scouting in my life. I have been to scouting summer camp multiple times to earn some of my 26 merrit badges, along with being on staff many summers as a lifeguard. I have also been to the boundary waters on the American and Canadian border. I have volunteered many hours to scouting, and scouting related activities, which were not always easy, but I have always felt like they were well worth my time and effort. Over the past six years while I was in Boy Scouts, I have learned many life skills and have taught younger Scouts many skills, also.
Now that I have completed the rank of Eagle, I will be having a Court of Honor in the spring, which is an award ceremony. During this Court of Honor, the recognized scout is presented with the Eagle Award, badge, and other Eagle Scout related items. Along with the Eagle items, the Scout may also receive letters from the President of the United States, and other high-ranking government officials. Some scouts choose to write to celebrities or people who they strongly admire, requesting a letter of congratulations. To be honest, I feel a little strange asking you for a letter of congratulations, but essentially this is why I am writing to you. I have admired your company ever since I started riding motorcycles, at the age of 16. I took the M.F.S. course and received my motorcycle license. My first and current bike (is actually my dads motorcycle, but I ride it way more than he does) is a 1989 Honda Transalp 600cc, which I have ridden for a little over 15,000 miles. When I first heard the name Buell I had no idea what it was, but I knew I liked the look of your XB series bikes. After spending night after night reading about your company, bikes, and you personally, I have grown to admire your determination and your company. I love: the dedication you put into your company; the care that you have for your customers and Buell enthusiasts; your all-around high spirits about motorcycles; and the respect for the people who ride them. I do not own a Buell motorcycle, mostly because my parents cannot afford one and tell me if I want a Buell then I’ll have to save up my money to buy myself one. Sadly, Buells are not the most common bikes in my area, so I continue to look for an affordable Buell. In fact, up until about a month ago, I had never even ridden a Buell. After I finished my Eagle project, my dad took me to Walter Brothers Harley Davidson and Buell and I got to demo ride a 2009 XB9SX. After that short 20 minute demo ride, I have decided that Buells are the bikes for me! The demo ride only fueled my determination to eventually own a Buell. Scouting has taught me that if I set my mind and heart towards something, I can eventually get it.
It would mean so much to me if you could take some time from your busy schedule and write me a letter of congratulations for my Court of Honor. If you are willing to write such a letter, I would be very appreciative of it. Thank you very much for putting so much dedication into your company and making a practical, fun bike that revolves around the rider. I don’t know how much you know about scouting, but from what I can tell, you possess many of the same qualities as an Eagle Scout and you have put them to work in your company and your daily life. If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to correspond with you. My e-mail address is... and my cell phone number is..... Thank you so much for your time!

Sincerely,
Ian

then within that week practically i got a letter back in the mail with the buell envelope! i was so excited! i opened it up and there was a extreamly nice letter from Erik on Buell letterhead and everything! (i'm only posting this b/c on the other thread i had going a while back some of you said you wanted me to post the letter once i got it (if i did), so this is what Erik wrote to me...

Dear Ian,

Congratulations on your achieving the Eagle Scout award. I know you will soon be attending the Court of Honor ceremony, and it is indeed an achievment worth honoring. Only very few young men in this country ever achieve this level of distinction, and you will be in great company at that time. The list of Eagle Scouts who have gone on to achieve great things in their adult lives is an auspicious one to be sure. Learning how to lead, to persevere through adversity, and to be willing to work for discovery give Eagle Scouts many of the tools needed by those who wish to make the world better.

As you know, it takes courage to tackle new challenges, to work equally and fairly with teammates, to get back up from each defeat, and to recognze that each success is only a step on the path of life. There willl be more challenges through your life, but i am sure you are one of those who will persevere through all life's adversities to build a path of honesty, hard work, and hope that will shine for those following you.

Best wishes,

(his signiture)

Erik Buell

I think that letter is way cooler than the letter that i'll be getting from the president of america! ha ha

(and Court was a big help in me attaining that letter! thanks again!!!)

oh and btw, since the letters i have bought myself a buell!!!! its an 03 9R! its blue

Meet Erik at the winter dealer show in January 2004 at the time I only had a 97 m2, but I brought some photos of it and he asked if he could have a copy and I felt like a million dollars for him to ask that. Now the pics I had to use my digital camera to take pic of photos so over look the quality

Court, speaking of this, whatever became of the poster concept you mentioned in another thread a while back? I think it was a sort of "evolution of Buell" theme if I recall...

Will they be available for purchase at some point? Perhaps as a Homecoming fundraiser or even to buy Erik a birthday present from BadWeb?

congrats on the letter and your eagle scout rank. some people don't get the buell philosophy and other's do. i hope that you realize how one man can make a difference and try to achieve that yourself.

for me, getting to have lunch with him during bike week then signing my tank and a onepiece for our grandbaby is priceless. i wouldn't want to imagine life without the bikes.

I can't tell you how happy I am to hear you have taken the MSF course.
Take the ERC and then do some track days.
I can't tell you how much you will learn at the track... its UNREAL!!
It will also make you ride slower on the road. Once you get to taste real speed, nothing you can do on a public road comes close..... plus ya notice the things you could crash into a lot more... and there aint no corner worker waiting to pick you up or call the bus to take to the hospital....LOL

Erik always replies to the messages we leave on facebook, and even the comments never slip past without a comment back. You even occasionally see him jump in on other
peoples bizarre comments and status updates. The latest something to do with Pink Floyd and Queensryche I believe....: )

I added him on face book a while back and sent him a message (i don't remember my exact words) but i had to do with my sadness for the company closing and hopeing it will come back also I thanked him for supporting me while being here in Afghanistan. and he replied back the very next day and told me he hoped to make bikes again soon as well. I thought that was awesome. then a while back i made a comment on his wall jokingly asking when he was going to make the 1190 into a street bike and said i hoped he would make street bikes again soon and he replied to it saying that he was going to concentrate on racing for the next year or so and then see what happens.

The two responses defiantly make me have hope that there will be buell street bikes again in the near future. Also it was really cool for him to reply to little ol me.

Yup, same here. Sent a FB friend request, and added a bit about being an XB owner, but that I'd completely understand if he wanted to restrict his friend list to actual friends. He accepted and said he'd never turn away a fellow Buell owner. President and founder of the freakin' company. You just don't see that anymore. EVER.

if you want, i can show you the scars on my right foot from april 4th 1976 that are quite recognizable from being hit on my 550 that i had in the navy. luckily i had a helmet and a pigskin jacket that save my hide pretty good.

ATGATT. ask santa for the boots and it doesn't matter what kind they are just as long as they protect more than the tenner's.

i'm all to aware of the dangers of riding! between this forum, and MCUSA's forums (the first forum i got on) i get on about every day, here is a likn to a thread i posted earlier on my other forum about my best friend being hit, i've known kyle since day one of kindergarten, and to this day we are still best friends!, but on page two of the thread, is a picture of kyles bike after the accident

http://forum.motorcycle-usa.com/default.aspx?f=17&p=1&m=460213

but i know i need to get some proper foot gear, its just the whole money situation being in high school with a part time job and having to pay for gas, insurance on both my car, and bike plus my cell phone bill, makes it hard to buy myself some boots, and as far as xmas goes i think my parents have already gotton me my gift, but may b i'll just save up over winter and find a cheaper pair
