This is by far, one of the most important and best threads I've seen on BW- brilliant minds indeed think alike! Court, I must comment- you've been the most outspoken on this thread EVAAR compared to anything prior to 10/15/09. I like the way you think. VERY good points, and your perspective is probably the most well-enlightened. Please continue... In today's age of texting, LOL'ing, and media "sound bite" pablum, our society is losing its ability to form constructive arguments and positive dialogue. As we carry on towards the goal of redeeming Buell, the company, and Erik Buell the good man, from this reprehensible decision, let us all sharpen our skills and prepare to write well, clearly and passionately with our favorite pens. I'm in. |

Nicely said! Keep in mind, the reason Harley killed Buell was that it was a "distraction" from their core brand. Let's show them that we can create some distractions as well. If we can get enough people attacking this from enough different angles, it could be much easier for Harley to just sell it rather than continually trying to defend and explain their position. |

Speaking of motorcycle magazines, does anyone else find it odd that there is STILL no mention of Buell's closure on Cycle World's website? They always seemed to be at least semi pro-Buell. They did the 2006 Ulysses intro issue and have done several other favorable Buell articles. Normally they post big events to their website within a day or two. Here it is a month later and still nothing about Buell's shutdown.

The only point I'm trying to make is if the average selling price of a Buell from Buell to the Buell Dealers is $9382.50 then where is the profit for the Buell Dealers? If I was a Buell Dealer and that was the case, I would do some bitching.... just say'n in me best South Park voice... BUELLBUELLBUELLBUELLBUELLBUELLBUELLBUELLBUELLBUELL |

I believe Buell made a small profit in 2007 and not in 2008. |

>>>Let's show them that we can create some distractions as well. The KEY . . at this point . . . is moving folks to ACTUALLY act. Many times internet "causes" are the source of great excitement. . . . like problems on a bike . . it appears there are hundreds of folks in on it . . .then when it comes to to ACTUALLY WRITE . . . the number dwindles from 1,000 to 8. The KEY now is getting folks who will . . the moment we are prepared . . actually write. Folks who can realize that they don't need to be elegant writers, have fancy paper or anything. The most important thing is to get your name, the fact that you are a Buell owner, your thoughts, a envelope and a stamp . . and make it happen. I'm gaining an odd sense of optimism. . . I'd call this an important week. I feel like folks are taking notice and are willing to help. How many folks do you think we can get involved? I'd love it if we could get a number around 500 . . say all the folks who attended the last Homecoming? |

You mean besides the $500 setup fee, and $300 tire sets, $50 gloves, $9 oil, etc? My dealer did less then an hours work to sell me my new XB9SX... How much should they make? |

>>>>>>you've been the most outspoken on this thread EVAAR compared to anything prior to 10/15/09. By the way . . . I confess I was sad and disappointed when I heard the news. Then when I learned what went on behind the scenes . . some of the dirty tricks and some of the jokes about Wandell and Olin and how they had the wool pulled over their eyes . . . well . . . it aroused my competitive spirit and I got just a little pissed off. Business decisions are one thing. This . . as is becoming evident and is supported by Dale Frank's blog from a month prior to the announcement . . . is just plain dirty pool. |

Here it is a month later and still nothing about Buell's shutdown. " I have been watching closely as every one of my MC magazine subscriptions have arrived in my mailbox, and I've noticed 2 things: 1- Where there were once page 1,2,3 new Buell ads, from the new folks in that department, nothing. WHEN was that decision made, to pull the ads from what was once a VERY prominent and expen$ive ad campaign? 2- No mention of Buell anything from the stringers, except Sport Rider December and another recent mag poo-pooing the 1125RR along with the Blast on the same page... The major glossy moto-magazines have been VERY quiet about anything Buell the past 2 months. I'm not totally sure about it, but I may have been the very first writer to have a piece published IN PAPER on the closing of Buell. I'm very curious about the timing of everything. Something smells rotten in Denmark. |

>>>The major glossy moto-magazines have been VERY quiet about anything Buell the past 2 months. Write them and ask what they are being told? . . . The couple of folks I have spoken too are indicating that folks are really running for cover . . . and that the HD media folks are harder to run down than hookers in a convent. The truth is going to come out. When it does . . . no one wants to be "on the record" for some bullshit "it was done for pure business purposes to allow us to focus on our core market". There are about 3 or 4 folks who are placing a number of folks at some degree of risk. Folks are beginning to get nervous and talk. Frankly . . . the people at Buell are nice folks and even folks who are not big Buell fans are becoming offended at watching this happen. |

Thanks to everyone for your ideas and input. I propose we now need a single point where we can all go to get the addresses to send our letters. Hopefully one of the moderators can create a link that consists of those addresses only so we don't have to scan through an entire thread to find all of them. Perhaps it could be titled something like "Addresses Only" and edited by moderators as needed. If letters should be sent on specific dates for maximum effect, that could be listed too. Also if you have an address that we should know about please post it. Thank you, Greg Tonn |

Court: If you will let us know "when you are prepared" I will start mailing. I have found that it does work with my state and local politicians to do so on other issues and I'm willing to spend the time to do it for this cause. Dave |

I keep putting posts on Harley's facebook page (it has over 300,000 members). this s$%t needs to be stirred up and we all need to use as many sticks as we can use and don't stop stirring. If any of you are on Facebook add to my posts or click the "like" button under them. We need to keep being a squeaky wheel until someone decides to get the grease out. |

I am in on the letter writing as well...the more "sticks" the better...I also keep sending emails to O'Reilly, Hannity, Cavuto and Beck on Foxnews...someone, somewhere will eventually help get our story out. |

Xbrad9r, Another good target might be some lefty publications and journalists: Mother Jones Magazine, Rachel Maddow, etc. This story has everything: unemployed American workers, evil corporation, the likely pettiness and stupidity of the corporate board, likely outsourcing of American jobs to Korea ... |

Make sure you try to get your friends and family involved too. I don't know about you but I spread the word and story of Buell to many people I meet, and some that get to hear about it enough know what a raw deal they just got. So if you can take an extra minute to make sure others that you may have sparked and interest with can let their voice be herd too it will only help this get the attention this deserves. They can discontinue Buell Motorcycles but they can't kill BUELL. Buell lives in each and everyone that has been lucky enough to have been touched by one of the many aspects of these motorcycles. There is just to much BUELL that HD dosen't own. Thank God Erik is the man he is and he gave us all the opportunity to expand our horizons. My letters will be ready tomorrow. |
