You guys have mentioned Angelina, ... don't forget that hubby Brad Pitt is an avid Moto GP fan and sportbike enthusiast! He also probably has a bit of cash .. ya think?

Brad already owns a Ducati Desmosedici RR, a Monster 696 and a selection of Harley-Davidson choppers. I think Brad might be in the other camp. Though, maybe since he has Harley choppers it would be like meeting in the middle. Angelina spend $100,000 on a chopper for him.

I just saw this "Mac motorcycle" a british minimalist bike with a Buell Blast engine.

For HD to do anything, at this point, they will need to be able to save face. Look for solutions that don't put them in a bad light. They are not going to be willing to do anything if they are made to look like a-holes or morons, regardless if they are deserving.

One thing I've learned about upper management: Once they come up with an idea, no matter HOW bad, they will stick with it until:

1) They're replaced
2) The company goes under

For some reason, admitting to making a mistake is anathema to these types.

I work in a similar business.... very silly and a little sad.... It takes more courage to admit fault and make a change than it does to stick with a dumb-*ss plan and just drive the sinking ship into the abyss.

The smaller entrepreneurial companies are a bit more flexible. they're lighter on their feet, quicker to act and do what needs to be done for the best results.

The behemoth companies who have cash and a heavy top end can hide behind their dumb thinking until they retire or get replaced.

Called around to confirm the warranty issue. All dealers are repeating what we already know; they sign a 7 year commitment for service and parts with HD and you can get those things from that dealer BUT, if they opt out....HD will not supply parts, warranty or otherwise, so we're screwed.
Is this somehow a breach of contract issue?
Legal buddies chime in.

Erics message said they "Will" stick by it. so if they suddenly don't I think there would be a class action case and people could contact their state attorney general.

My dealer claims we're pretty much screwed (his view point). He states HD will not sell any rights on account the brand may succeed on its own. He claims Eric owns no rights to anything except the right to use his own name basically to sign a personal check. I asked what the prices were for his remaining stock; 1125's $7K+, xb 12's-9's, approx.$6k+. I told him I am seeing them on the web at $5K+ for new 08's to as little as $3,995+ for the same. He claims he'll have no problem selling them. I laughed and said I'll call him in a week and ask again!

I can see a S & S motor in an XB or a polaris/can-am motor in a CR. The knew name on the induction cover should read, "wetowyaso".

Might succeed on its own? So HD 'can't afford" buell but doesnt want it to succeed if they can't own it? Everyday I get more and more reasons to hate that company.

Tim:

Your dealer is ill informed.

You may want to look for a smarter dealer.

There are companies out there with limited showroom exposure/small dealer network that are selling bikes primarily over the internet.
Granted they are smaller displacement but still
www.sikktoys.com
www.fxbikes.com
www.derringercycles.com

Of the 215 bikes I sold this season, all but 12 were to internet leads that showed up and payed in person. They saw the bike on line, all deal was done before they walked in the door. Really it was a by appointment deal set up. It worked slick. I had almost nil in floor traffic, it gave me a lot of time to let me enjoy riding.
It can be done.

PS take a look at Exile bikes for the FXR street racer, alot of Buell influence there.

If any ideas get going here, we need a list of all Buell forums, so the idea can gain momentum. Also, is someone checking all the Buell forums to see if something isn't already underway. We need to come together as a community with multiple laser sharp foci.

I still think a petition needs to be made, but I'm not sure of the wording.

If each of us went around and got signatures from bikers it would be an impressive list. I could easily collect 100 maybe 1000 myself. Just go to a couple of rallies with a clipboard and a pen. And go to the local club meetings. And all the other brand motorcycle shops, they'll sign the right petition as well. Cyclegear too.

Every biker is hurt by Buell's closing. One less choice is never good in a free market.

This is the blackest news in the history of contemporary motorcycling.

The act of making and getting signatures is historic, it doesn't mater who the final recipient is, it is the action that has power and meaning.
