I was just joking around at that point I'm sure there is plenty we agree on. Religion and politics will most of the time never be one of them. However if everyone agreed life would be boring and this thread would have been over in one post.

Rocco,

You are confused.

For a party that considers itself seated at the right hand of God,it seems weird that you all support the complete opposite of what Jesus taught...to help others.

It is a fact that conservatives give a lot more to aid their fellow humanity than do liberals. We simply prefer to give as we see fit, not to big brother, who in many cases wastes a lot of what he gets before doling it out in misguided fashion actually creating more of the very problem they intend to help resolve.

So it is not that I or others opposed to big government don't support coming to the aid of our fellow man, it's just that we prefer to do it ourselves and how and for whom we see fit rather than have that freedom stolen from us by the government.

ic ic, the point i was trying to make about religion was....

people always say you have to find god to be a better person or a good person in their eyes. so it doesnt matter how much crack you smoke or hookers you nail and throw some of them in a dumpster. as long as you do your time them find jesus you are a good christian......bs

thats why people that need god in their life to feel strong or a whole person come off as week to me. just like cross tattoo's, all it says is im trying to fit in with the "good" people yet ive never been inside a church in my life.

i dont have a problem with whatever they do in their spare time or how they have to think to be whole.

once i was old enough to see through the bs of american cult christianity i quit practicing, it has never nor ever will bite me in the ass. religion has no part of being a good person. where as i base my good standings of a person through morals of right and wrong.

i kinda got off track but thats my thought on why religion has no part in politics or should even be compared. when i even think about a politician making a decision through his beliefs it has a very ill effect on me.

You are correct. Creating a nanny state and encouraging an endless circle of poverty doesn't do anyone any good except the government that now controls the lives of those it has condemned to total dependence.

Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Let him get hungry enough to go get his own fish and he'll eat for a lifetime.

I certainly wouldn't say that. You can be a great person without finding God. You are also still condemned, but a good person. As for God's forgiveness of your hypothetical sinner, that is between the individual and God. If God finds him worthy of forgiveness who are you or I to question that. I do question the likelyhood of someone living a despicable life for years and years and suddenly finding God and asking forgiveness at the eleventh hour though.

Interesting judgments. I have no idea what they are based on, but interesting.

Is all Christianity a cult in your eyes or only in America? I fail to understand the purpose of your distinction.

And yet the left constantly want to convince folks on the right that their political opinion is against their principals by asking WWJD. I see it on bumper stickers about the Iraq war. I see it used in many political arguments. It was used in this thread. If the left doesn't want political decisions made based on religion then the left should stop asking the right to make political decisions base on religion. PERIOD!

Hootowl, this is one of the things that I find so disappointing about liberals. They value intentions higher than results. Intentions without results are worthless. BO has zero results at this point.

But he needs to become hungry to be motivated to learn in the first place.

Actually I think the Wall Street Journal got it right.

Obama got the prize, for his stated philosophy and intentions. He's a "progressive" politician, and had already made great promises by the time he was elected. His stated goals were very close to the original concept of the prize. He wants to reduce the military, and especially the best armed forces in the world, ( us ) to make the world "a better place". Just as Al Nobel would have liked.

Now I think that one of the other people nominated, would have won the prize if MY concept of peace & freedom were applied, or even a committee's that would be of balanced American citizens, but that's not important. It's their committee, and their scandahoovian leftist values that count.

At least Obama got the award for his hopey-changey persona. Not like Carter, who got it to spite the hated Boosh. Or Arafat, for declaring war on Israel. Or Alphonse "he played on our fears!!" Gore, who won for pushing the largest con since, well, Communism. ( Is it snowing there yet? Come On Global Warmin!)

on the ..american cult christianity .. thing...

Certainly, as one's eyes open to the hypocrisy of adults in adolescence, any Church is a bastion of silly rituals and social constructs for the power of the few. The power plays of the bake sale, the status games of the men & women, make the whole concept of "religion" seem a great steaming heap. I assure you, it is universal, and not "american" alone.

Many people freeze their "spiritual progress" at that stage, and fail to look behind the status games and greed of the political priesthood at the underlying message.

At this point I could wax about some underlying theme.... but I just say, either embrace the uncertainty of agnosticism, or pick a freaking path you like, just don't be evil, so we don't have to put you down, for societies sake.

I'm pretty sure we can agree on a few rules of good behavior, and killing people for their religious beliefs is bad (unless their belief is to kill you, then we should all have a chat about what the f&*^ is wrong with those people, don't you think? )

Seems I had the Nobel committee's attitude correct.

...Jagland singled out Obama's efforts to heal the divide between the West and the Muslim world and scale down a Bush-era proposal for an anti-missile shield in Europe. ...

Now, I think that screwing Poland, etc. on the missile shield is short sighted & will lead to war, but the Nobel dudes see it as a proper turn of world opinion. I also think they would have applauded Chamberlain for his treaty with Herr Hitler, and the sure steps to peace in Europe it hailed.

I'm not an Obama fan, but I'll give the devil his due. He's a great speaker. I minored in speech in college, and have been a member of Toastmasters, completed the Dale Carnegie Course, and had individual speech training. Obama is a very talented speaker.

Sort of reminds me of the Wizard of Oz though. "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. "

Every study I've ever seen indicates that republicans and those that label themselves "conservative" give more to charity than democrats and self labeled "liberals". This is at every income level.

The difference is that conservatives do not trust a government entity to put their money to efficient use, whereas liberals do believe that the government is efficient and fair with it's disbursement of funds. That is a huge disconnect.
