Obama joins such lights as Woodrow Wilson, Arafat, Carter, and Al Gore. Nuff said.

Looking at the list of winners http://nobelprizes.com/nobel/peace/peace.html
either they are

pretty obscure
their efforts were well-intended, but ultimately unsuccessful
or actually did some good.

It is ironic that Gorby got the PP for bringing down the Iron Curtain, but not Reagan.

he apologizes for america's behavior and wants to have dialogue with tyrants and murderers and gets rewarded for it. there is definitely something screwed up with the universe.

The stupidity of some members of his board just never ceases to amaze me.
Too bad there is no Nobel Dumb@ss award. Bush would have won that, hands down.
God forbid some one would try to handle things with diplomacy rather than the right wing's "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb Iran" attitude.
Thank God McCain isn't President, or we'd be trying to fight a war in Iran too.
8 years in Afghanistan and you people STILL can't see the former administrations retarded policy DIDN'T work. Time to try something else, don't you think?
Well of course you don't!
I say good job Obama. Finally a person we don't have to be ashamed to call President.

From a field of 205 "light this year" candidates . . . Barack emerges, having been in office less than 60 days . . . for the award based on his "efforts" in diplomatic relations.

Be mindful that at the deadline, which was in February, he had yet to say two words about diplomatic relations.

Actually . . . he had said two.

"We're sorry".

The award is a slap, nothing more, at Bush.

Looks like the committee, based on the criteria the White House has established, are "racists".

Rocket, whether or not Obama is a great president....
He's been president all of two minutes.
Most of the award recipients won for things they've spent a long time working on.... sometimes a lifetime.
Like it was said above Obama hadn't really I done anything other than get elected president before the nomination deadline.
If he was near the end of his term and you could see the success of his administration, then yea... give him the award.
This seems way premature.
I mean there wasn't anyone more deserving?

I don't really get into political stuff like this but he should have gotten the Nobel Peace prize for all of the infomercails he has been doing. I'm so tired of seeing him on TV talking the talk and not walking the walk. He reminds me of an Old Baltimore City Mayor named Kirk Schmoke he did nothing but have commities to study stuff that was going on in the city. What a waste of money! Think about your children and their generations to come.

"Bilderberg Group"

"To say we were striving for a one-world government is exaggerated, but not wholly unfair. Those of us in Bilderberg felt we couldn't go on forever fighting one another for nothing and killing people and rendering millions homeless. So we felt that a single community throughout the world would be a good thing."
"No reporters are invited in and while confidential minutes of meetings are taken, names are not noted... In the void created by such aloofness, an extraordinary conspiracy theory has grown up around the group that alleges the fate of the world is largely decided by Bilderberg."

Can't wait to see what happens next.

Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize is like handing the Superbowl trophy to the Steelers after the first pre-season game.

That they lost.

The NPP is a joke. Has been since Jimma Carter and Arafat got one.

Defending Obama's receipt of the award should win one a "Dumba$$ Award".

8 years? Are you serious?

That area of the world has been at constant war with itself and everyone else they encounter since the beginning of time, and you think a nice polite chit chat is going to solve it?

Give me a friggin' break.

Lovely how he said "We will not negotiate with terrorists" and today I heard part of his exit strategy in Afghanistan is to work with the Taliban.

Will this bring peace?

Ah....NO!

Being that I was born and raised a Norwegian I feel particularly ashamed today.

It is a know fact that the Nobel Peace price committee is a bunch of leftover 60ies flower children that still idolizes Mao Ze Tung.

Misguided bastards!

Hopefully he will live up to the prize. He really has not been in office long enough to take blame or claim for much. They were sending a political message.

Bjbauer: I think that's a spot-on assessment. It's a political statement, not a recognition of achievements. I heard a clip of the prez's statement on my way in to work, and it seemed like he was basically saying that, too.

And to think, I actually admired the nobel Peace Prize. I know most of you dont agree with me on this but i think that the vast majority of the past winners actually made sense. Carter, he may not have been a very well liked president (despised by many) but to it made sense to give him the award when he got it. He's worked harder than anyone I can think of for peace around the world. Hell even if you throw everything else out that he's done, the work with election verifications deserves the award.

But as for Obama, I can't fathom any justification. Hell, my 14 year old daughter is probably more deserving for her paper on famines throughout history, how they have impacted/resulted in world conflicts, and how famine relief can prevent future wars over limited resources and food supplies.

Could you do some of us "stupid" people a favor and explain to us what Obama has done to earn the NPP?

From what I can tell so far, his major accomplishments include:

1. - Being the first black President.
2. - Not being George W. Bush.

I know I might be "stupid" but could you extend a little grace and explain what accomplishment earned him the NPP?

I suspect a great many things in life amaze you.

Look . . . Obama had been President for 8 days when he was nominated. I think it was him who invoked the "it's too early for me to have done anything; this is inherited from the prior administration".

Obama is a great embarrassment.

While I as a Dem. am very surprised by this some of the people on this website really do amaze me with their complete negativity about everything this man has done. While he probably did not yet deserve this award you all are much less deserving so knock it off with the constant hatred. It is not helping the country either. Perhaps Obama isn't the best President ever but he's been in office less than a year it's to early to tell.

Hang on- if a guy gets credited with something he doesn't deserve, why is it hatred to question that?

I think you need to take another look to see who is really neutral in this case. You're asking us to overlook the rest of the world literally awarding the man with something you admit he does not deserve.
