Congratz Grand-Ma. I know grand-daughters are the greatest thing in all creation. I've got two of um, a 2 year old and a 4 month new be-be. I can tell by the way my wife(Granny Annie) beems whenever they drop by(often)jest how special they are to her. Also see, with grand babies its jest another reason to SHOP MORE, little girls always need something.

Grammy is what my Mom is called. She too couldn't do the "Grandma" thing! Her counterpart is Grandy. Sure makes it easy with each grandparent having their own special name!

Holy mackerel! I thought color was the great advancement until the third time I looked, and saw a little person there. (Bachelor thing, I guess?)

That's wonderful, Pammy!

Must be gettin' close, huh? When's the due date?

(Oh, I can hardly imagine the shame and humility of the first rude customer that gets punched out by a grandmother! I bet that'll be the last one of those to ever brave the threshold. Henceforth, it'll all be "Yes m'aam," and, "Thank you m'aam," and, "What a darling little granddaughter you have.")

You told Wes about it yet?

Well, I am very blessed. I live close enough to travel, by bike, in one day(8 hours) but far enough away that we can't impose on one another. It keeps the relationship special

Petey, you know that I have never actually, physically, punched a customer. I am a genteel, soul, incapable of such violent behaviour...

Dave, I can relate to your Dad's sentiment.

Anyway, I appreciate all the kind thoughts and words from everyone here. And everyone who sent their well wishes via e-mail as well. Thank you, you all are very kind.

Oh, the due date is the first week in May.

My youngest daughter was born at the beginning of bike week almost 18 years ago. That was a rough week. Luckily, my water broke on Saturday morning, so I only missed a half days work.

My older daughter is having her baby shower during bike week and I am having trouble convincing her that I have lots of work to do. I imagine I am going to have to make a supreme offering to get me outta this one.

Grams...(trying out a few)

Of course not! That’s why I never mentioned the physical part. That would be lettin’ ‘em off easy. A physical black eye will heal.

But the metaphorical black eye from a tongue lashing…

Pete, you scare me. You know me so well.

From inside my head, lookin' out, it's hard to imagine that I could be someones Grandparent. Oh well, just like being a parent, I am not following anyones pattern. I can't wait.

Just Grand...because I am...

Grand parenting is sooo cool...you will dig it. Get a really good digital camera. The old thing about being able to send them home when they are bad is more true than I would like to admit. They help keep you young too.

Congratulations!

Oh, and congratulations on winning the HP Shoot-Out again this year at Daytona! I know, it hasn't even happened yet, but I know you are going to win.

I had a long talk with the officials last year trying to get them to 'splain why there is a separate Buell Class, and then a Sportster Class too. That was a hoot, hearing these professional motorcycle mechanic instructors try and tell me how there needed to be two classes, because the Buells had a more powerful engine. I kept bringing it back to "they are both XL engines", and they are modified with the same parts!

I finally figured it out that the rules didn't have to make sense, that they just didn't want you beating out the Sportster boys year after year!

I am thinking of buying my Son-in-law a new digital video camera so they can keep me updated. I need to research that, but it is not my specialty. I have a digital camera but I take crummy pictures.

"I finally figured it out that the rules didn't have to make sense, that they just didn't want you beating out the Sportster boys year after year!"

I know that this is a joke, but that is exactly why the classes were seperated. What a big stink it was. Temper tantrums and the works. There are a few men out there who take the shootout VERY seriously.

This year it will go by engine size period.

Currently, the old Yellow Beastie is undergoing some unexpected renovation. Seems that the cases won't quite hold up to all the abuse the ol' mule is subjected to. As I said in another thread, I have to keep the cases stock in order to keep everything else. So I am(not me personally) welding up a set of cases from a wrecked bike to try to give her one more good run. If it works great, if not, she'll be retired early.

I am trying to keep the motor Buell. It's fun to do stuff that others tell you may not be possible. But, if these cases don't work, I will be forced to use some (other brand) race cases that we purchased for another project that got scrapped.

Anyway, I ramble on...Thanks for the vote of confidence. It is appreciated.

Yer Majesty

Consider adopting the sacndanavian form of of appelation -- to whit:

Your Mother's mother is (in a rough approxiamtion of Swedish) Mormor (mom-mom, if you will)

your Dad's father is Farfar (dad-dad)

Your Father mom is Farmor, and so on -- cuts down on the confusion of to the players when you are bereft of a scorecard

and a big old congratulations!

Yep, those terms worked well for me growing up ;)

As for cameras, it'd be hard to go wrong with any of the Canon Powershot models. Depending on available funding take your pick:

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/

These are some of my current favorites:

Canon PowerShot SD800 IS
Canon PowerShot SD700 IS
Canon PowerShot A640/A630

Your main concern will be quick start-up and *very* short shutter lag (time between pushing the button and the picture actually being taken - wreaks havoc on "action" shots i.e. kids on the run). Image stabilization (IS) is nice for indoor shots without flash and such, but not a necessity.

I can highly recommend the Fuji F-30 (looks like they now have a F31fd as well).

It does all the "normal" digicam stuff well (including video with audio), and is small and portable, and rationally priced (under $400).

The unique advantages it offers (IMHO) are:
1) Impossibly good low light performance. 3200 ASA sensitivity, meaning that you can literally shoot in candlelight without a flash. Even when you have OK light, a natural light picture will look far better then a flash picture every time.

2) Very good battery life.

3) Extremely fast boot up, image acquisition time, and auto focus times.

Digital cameras have come a long way.

The Cannon Digital Rebels are amazing, but fairly expensive, and not very portable. Cameras that cant be easily carried don't get often used for the vast majority of the population.

My kids have a digital camera. I was thinking about a video camera. I was hoping for something good and practical.

I have a Fuji myself and I never take good pictures. It is probably me though. I used to take great photo's with my old Yashica.

My younger daughter daughter uses the Scandinavian terminology when she is hitting me up for "school" funds..."more-more".

And I know I have a southern accent...but there is no need to call me appelation...

Pammy,

Congratulations!!! I recommend any of the cheap video cameras. Don't gett attached to the device, get attached to the images. My favorite family videos turned out to be the ones the three year old shot, you can hear the parents in the background trying to save my expensive camcorder. Shoot lots of video or better yet get a web cam for the babies room so you can peek in whenever you'r feeling the need. Get one for Wes' flow bench so he can check on it from time to time too.

Sorry for the confusion... older Fuji's were the worst for low light sensitivity, then they went to the best (for a point and shoot). Some engineer somewhere must have taken it personally.

The last video camera I bought was $29 at CVS, and was then hacked. Lots of fun, lousy video.

I have a high end digital Sony. Rarely use it, too big, I just shoot short clips on the Fuji now (decent quality, but it eats memory and batteries fast).
