Has anyone put a Lightning rear end on a Firebolt? If so, got any pics? What about a parts list? I think it would look bad a$$. |

It's been on my to do list forever (S tail to R) but never seem to find the owner of an R tail that wants to make the swap. They either have already had it done, or the deal falls through. |

My problem is that I can't leave well enough alone. Finding this website has cost me or saved me money depending which way you look at, or if you are talking to my wife...... That being said, anybody in the central Ohio area with a Lightning that wants to do a swap let me know |

Saved, definitely saved! Maybe you and I could work something out. I have an unmolested XB9S tail. Only things not stock are the seat and "strainer". The seat is a Buell Street Fighter, and the strainer has had an overlay of carbon fiber to the insert. Other than that and almost 50,000 miles, it's stock. |

Installing the S tail on an R is very easy. It's going the other way that is difficult. Plenty of people on this board want to put an R tail on their S, so just swap tails with one of them. You will need the S rear brake reservoir too, because it is mounted in a completely different place. Don't swap the rear section of the wiring harness though. The one on the S is not segmented like an R. And make sure to keep your locking mechanism so you can take the seat off! Here is my thread on the tare down: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/214346.html?1153282365 I don't really have a good pic of mine (there is a crappy one floating around her somewhere) and it is taken apart again for some winter maintenance. Lonexb's is a better color anyway. |

If you can take off early, I have the Wednesday before MB-IV off all the way through the Wednesday after MB-IV. I'd love to work something out with you, it'd be a fun project too. |

mark there really is not that much to it. hopefully you can find some one to switch tails with. it will make it even easier to do. Cereal has already given you the things to look out for.the rear brake reservoir is very good advice. although you could just make a bracket for the stock one. i found switching the reservoir to be easier for me. other than that you will have to redo the way the wires connect to the tail light.just a couple of spade connectors. if you are not going to use the passenger foot pegs you will have to still put in one of the bolts to hold the under tray to the side frame rails of the tail. on a scale of one to ten i would rate this a three. (ten being the hardest.) it really is a straight forward swap. if you have any questions on anything concerning the swap that i did not cover, please feel free to call (631-478-8086) or e-mail me. brian |

Brian, we'll see about when/if this happens. I see this being very easy, seeing as how we'd doing both bikes at the same time. Why not come on down anyhow? It's sure to be a great time, just ask Gentleman Jon. |

May I temp you with my Tail... I will sell you the whole works. Custom painted subframe with Special Ops eliminator, undertray, CF micro indicators, ALL wiring, battery, etc. It would be just a little bit more than a simple bolt on.

May I temp you with my Tail... Did you read the thread? He's cheap, like me Besides, you're too late anyway, we think we may have it all figured out. Good talking with you Wolf. The plan is (if it all works out) to have it all said and done before MB-IV. |

Here is a better pic of mine. I never like the pictures much. It looks much better in person.
and I will go ahead and answer the questions I always get: Yes, the tires are grayish. They are those ridiculous Tomahawks. Yes, it's in my kitchen along with my S1. which always leads to the next question: No, I am not married. And the GF lives 3,000 miles away right now so she has no say in the matter. |

Black_sunshine, that is a tempting offer but Glitch and I have done the email handshake, and will be swapping tails the first chance we get. If for some reason that doesn't happen I'll let you know..... |

Why are you selling your tail? Will's engine took a dump. The bearings for the crank that connects to the rods seized. He's decided to part out the bike rather than fix it. |

I would love to help with the swap at MBIV. If all goes well, we'll have everything done before MB. Maybe someone else will see it. How's the parting out going? Have you put it up on e-bay? |

It's going ok....tracking everything is proving to be challenge, when you are trying to sell your WHOLE bike piece by piece. It's painful to see her in this state. I want to keep it here on the BadWeb so my brothers and sisters can get the parts. Ebay will get the hard to sell items as a last resort. |
