Calling all GSXR experts out there. Tell me, why is it that 04 GSXR 1000's are going for about $2,500 to $3,000, and 05 GSXR 1000's are $7,500 to $9,500? What's wrong with the 04's?

I'm looking for a track bike and noticed how cheap the 04's are. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't thinking about taking a big whack out of my money market account for something that's going to be a problem or undesirable.

And relax, I still love my Buell. She's just not a track bike.

I know, right? I just checked KBB.com and they appraise an 04 at $7,900 and an 05 for $8,400 (in new condition).

Well, it's got to be a joke. I ran across an ad offering an 04 GSXR 1000 with 1,800 miles for $2,800 in Houston. Either they're desperate, don't know what they have, or it's some sort of a scam. Hell, if he'll sell it for that and it will make it out of his driveway under its own power I'll buy it if I want it or not. I'd be glad to let you have it for 6. LOL!

I sent the guy an email. We'll see if he replies. The ad's only two days old, so surely it's not gone already.

Also, while on KBB I thought it was interesting that the 05 XB12S and the 05 XB12Scg retailed for the same amount, but the cg is currently worth $800 more than the S.

I just bought a used '03 gix engine, complete, for $2K, if you can get an '04 for that price buy it and part it out, you'll make a bundle.

Yeah, if he calls I'll go pay cash for it and ride off title in hand. I've never ridden one, but I've ridden with guys that had them and they're pretty impressive machines. All I know is they're way faster than what I've got now. I'll probably play with it for a while at the track and then either sell it or part it out. Hope he calls. I think it would look great in the garage beside my XB.

Phil,

$2500 GXSR 1000's are simply a scam.

A very common one too. Bike is either hot, or more likely, non existent.

Even a good wreck fetches thousands more than that.

Be very careful, ok?

Yeah. Scam. Scam. Scam.

That being said; we have some Marines here who DROVE to some city in southern Florida (i'll have to find out later) and picked up BRAND NEW GSXR 1000's for 7900.00, out the door. Apparently this place just damn near gives them away. I was sceptical when I first heard this, till two weeks later, another kid from the same unit drove down there and came back up Sunday Night with a brand new GSXR-1000 (4miles on it) for 7900.00 out the door. Actually, his may have been 8400.00 out the door. Still.. That's ridiculous. You can't touch em for that price, here.

Plus, I bought my Buell for 2700 under the KBB price used. It only had 400 miles on it. Some deals are out there. But, what you do is tell them that you will meet him with money and exchange it there. Get the VIN prior, have it scanned and then proceed. Usually, if you tell them that you live close, or "have a friend who lives in the next town" and you'd like to have him come and look at it, one of two things will happen. He'll lose contact with you (scam) or say okay and be willing to help you out with that (usually not a scam)

SO, good luck.

Hope it works out.

Mark

Rats. It was a scam. I knew it was too good to be true. Evidently there's a lot of that going on as I found several in that price range on various motorcycle ad sites. Here's the contents of their email reply this morning:

Hello there,

I want to tell you that bike is as new, it was used by my brother for less time as he could not enjoy it very much as 7 month ago he died in a car accident. It has no scratches, no damage on it, it is running perfect, it has a clear title which you will receive a copy after the payment is confirmed. I want to sell it asap because I am selling his house now and this brings bad memories for me. I can tell you that my brother was very setisfy of this. The price I want for this asap is 2800$ with shipping taxes included. Shipping will be done from NEW YORK as I am from there via Fedex, will take no more then 2-3 days and I will pay all shipping and handeling to your address. Payment will be done via wair transfer as it is the fastest and the safe way. I want to shipp it in the same day when the payment is complete.
The most important thing in all my activity here is that I am affiliated at SafePay Solutions, I have a a purchase protection account for 15000$ and I assume you know what this means.
The finacial part of this deal will be manage by them. They are accting like a third party in this deal. Also, I have to let you know that I want a proof that you have all the money availble for this deal as I will ship it in the same day or next day morning, after you proove to me that you are the real buyer.
Since this deal will be made using a THIRD PARTY to help us closing this deal, I prefer honnest buyers. Anyway, if you want more details about this deal, please reply with the following informations:

-Your full name;
-Your full shipping address;

I will look for your email, so that we can move forward with this deal!
And you have here some photos with the bike.

Regards!

The dude could at least learn to speak some freaking English. That money would have come out of an account earmarked for building a house when I finish grad school anyway. I don't even own a garage and I think I need two motorcycles. LOL! Some people would think my priorities are a little off, but I figured you guys would understand. I'd just hate to wear out my welcome in the garage where I'm keeping the one I do own.

If they sound like they're not from here, they're not from here. If they're not from here, it's a rip off.
