my bike has been broke for 28 yrs, i was okay with that, gonna get to it one day--then it all started-wife (becksbuell) wanted a bike-BAD!!, so, being the kind, considerate, loving, caring, individual i am, and since i have to live with her, i started looking. Noticed the "blast"(new to me), then found BWB, stirred up my latent motivation, first step to hurtling down the slippery slope. Bought her a blast, she loves it, got on it my self, remembered what i had been missing. Reason and my budget say i don't need a bike, but...talked it over with Beck, she agreed, we can't afford another one, so i said, okay, we won't be able to ride that often together anyway, so we can just share--GEE WHIZZ-such a giving and sharing person she is, but...."YOU! ride MY bike?!!" what a predicament ya'll have got me into, yes it's your fault, i may not have bought a bike at all, and probably not a buell if not for BWB, I think I'm going to have to find one, watching for something economical (she may kill me yet), I may have to sell it just before my house gets repo'ed(we could live in the truck, but we can't get our bikes in there too. I don't know exactly why it has to be a buell, it might be subliminal BW messages? Some kind of puissant(found that looking up psychosis) catching psychosis, who knows--sorry, all i really wanted to know---if a body was studying on the possibility of (both unseen as of yet) a 02 lightning,3-4Kmi.(race ecm, exhaust, intake) thats necked as a centerfold, and good looking too, but more than i should spend, or a 01 M2,9Kmi, thats a bit banged up(scratched tank, windscreen)pic of the good side only, plain jane,V&H muffler(all the guy knows of, but it's fairly economically priced--which one? ( seems like opinions pop up every now and then here), share some please--or since they both told me they were meant to be cut up and made into something else, how can i convince beck this is a rescue mission and we need, must, and are morally obligated to save them both?
thanks, anyone who actually took the time to read all that is appreciated
Ed

Buy the affordable one ... then as money becomes more available, customize it ...

If the paint isn't gouged through to the plastic on the M2, it may be salvageable with the help of a good detailer ... the M2 will also be the more comfortable bike IMO, but still just as fun to toss around ...

At least that's my 1/2 a cent

those little voices in my head are at it again, arguing up a storm. One agrees with you tat, cost, comfort, the reasonable one. Another says "look at that lightning, think what it would do" NO!NO!you're too old to be going fast anyway" " Nah, your as young as you're ever going to be, go for it" goes on and on. all this and haven't even seen them yet, heading out to go see. They'll probably both be gone when I get there or the guy's 'll have those shifty eyes and tell me that knock is just a loose muffler.
G2 and that Jung guy may be on to something though, my neuroses are definitely maturing, a choice of rides sure would be nice

go with the m2 so that way when the wife doesn't want to ride her own you can easily go two up and be fairly comfortable. my wife don't complain about being on the back of mine even with the soft bags hanging over the seat. as far as affordability, i don't smoke and i don't drink that much so that saves me alot of money right there and i pay things off as quick as i can. for the m2, we got my buddy an 02m2L for 3500 with 2600 miles on it. it was stock. not that it would matter that much. good luck and tell your wife that you will work real hard to support your new habit if you can get the bike.

It's not like the M2 is some kind of slouch. It's carb'd instead of fuel injected, and it has cams that favor low end grunt over peak power, but it's still the same motor.

The odds of an M2 being flogged half to death are lower then the odds of an X1 being badly abused as well.

The X1 has a better suspension as well, but the M2 is still quite capable. Unless you are putting on fairly sticky rubber ($$$) you won't push either bike to its limits.

I miss my M2. If I had to choose between my 9sx and my M2, I would still take the 9sx easy, but I miss the M2.

Buy the M2,it's cheaper, just as much fun as the X1 and with a carb. you can stay away from the dealership$$$$$$$.
I've had many bikes in my life and none of them could replace my you will never regret it.........Charlie

M2 has more power, torque, versatility. XB Lightnings are incredibly agile and are much more composed when rode aggressively. It's a tough choice. I like tubers as street bikes, and if I could afford it I'd have an XB for a track bike.

Rick,
The X1 in question is also a tuber(02), but I agree about the XB.
However the M2 is going to be a lot easier to work on than an XB.Even though the XB has fewer maint. issues.......Charlie

Praise be to Badweb for all the help and insight, and the other stuff too!!!I really appreciate it. Beck was relaying posts to me on the road(long road). Looked at the lightning first , really stripped down, the guy that had it said he got it that way and most of the stuff was there in a box. I thought it looked pretty good, but, not very experienced at looking anyway, it looked like it was sitting there thinking about jumping on something. But, it didn't have much in the way of passenger room, though priced reasonably, I thought, was more money that I was wanting to spend, and maybe not what I really needed(wanted,needed... you know). Went on down the road and found the M2, turned out to be an 02, sitting there looking kind of dejected, like maybe something had jumped on it. Skint up, it's missing parts were obviously accidental. But nothing insurmountable, I think. My legs are too short, can't blame that on the bike, though. It really looked like it needed a home, was fairly cheap,so...it crawled up on my trailer and followed me all the way home. Looked so much happier snuggled up in the barn with Beck's blast. Watch out though, I expect to have all sorts of questions before this is over with.
Lotza thanks,Ed
PS somebody needs to go buy that lightning so I can quit worrying about it

Good choice ! ... you won't regret it, I managed to acquire my fav Buell last week, the S1 .. I still plan to keep and thoroughly enjoy my M2...

Once you get your M2 up to 100%, consider investing in a couple things, depending on what it has already - 4 things that jump out and will be the biggest benefits IMO - air cleaner, exhaust, carb tuning, and the most expensive but best for handling and being able to push the bike... inverted forks from preferably an X1 (Showa not WP) - not only will it handle better, but it will look better IMO ....

M2's are the bestest! (Well, maybe not quite as bestest as an S2.....but that's another "holy" war..)

I'm really looking forward to getting mine back on the road.

Congrats on your new toy! You're gonna love it.
Feel free to post away with questions.
Lots of M2 experts around here..

i'm glad you thought about your wife and got it cause you can ride two up also. beck won't regret letting you get it. great bike, great fun and the 02 has less issues. speed sensor has been the biggest one for me. it was going in for it's forth one before my daughter got hit on it. haven't had any issues with the one i have now so far. knock on wood. what color is the bike and is it a low.

Problems already, Beck's Blast is miffed at me cause I was riding the cyclone up and down the driveway, and wouldn't even move over to make room for the cyclone in the barn, I hope they'll learn to get along. First Ride Impressions: the blast is a much better driveway bike. Problems with Becky: she's on that cyclone in a flash, ready to go, jumping up and down said it sounds different than her blast and she's gotta see how it runs. Finally convinced her to calm down, no insurance, unknown bike, and that section of foot deep loose gravel in the dark......OK, she may be miffed too.I may end up riding her blast more than I thought. Cyclone was smoking in the driveway, didn't say anything, I get abused for smoking regularly myself. Maybe we can quit together.
Percy-good thing she finally found that "just kidding"-she was coming after you

tat, congratulations on you S1. I'm so lost I don't even know what most of it's parts are, I thought that air thing was a goiter-, and now i find out this "invertd fork" thing is not necessarily caused by accidents--lots of learning to do around here--thinking I could haul this thing to Suches and put a bunch of slips of paper and a suggestion box on the seat, or maybe I could cut a slot in that air thing

Court, I may need that proof-knowing you're working on one of the best would probably be inspirational-perhaps lots of inspiration can overcome ignorance-on the other hand, maybe I need to prove it myself!!

Nevr, I wasn't thinking of beck, about the seat anyway( considering her recent Badweb addiction, I should mention I think of her unceasingly), but I don't think she'll get on the back of that seat, I have trouble getting her in my truck, make her nervous-no idea why. I have a 9(as of tomorrow) yr old son I may eventually get on that seat, he won't even think about it yet though, which is fine with me until I get comfortable. Hope your daughter wasn't hurt, did you replace her because she wrecked your bike? It's black, with a bunch of yellow and black checker board stuff- are they all that way or it this one just special?
I don't have any pic's, Becky's the photog person,one day, maybe a blurry one

there was a fuzzy pic of the good (well, better)side on cycletrader (in anderson SC)
the lightning i didn't get is in there too (in Homer GA)
thanks folks, gotta get into the knowledge vault and see how many 01 parts i see on ebay might fit

As others have said, when a question arises , ask ... lots of M2 followers here ... and I promise that even though the M2 isn't as graceful as the Blast in the driveway, those same reasons it isn't will change and it'll turn into a track star once you leave the driveway ...

obligatory M2 pic for ya ...
