So I wussed out and "drove" my Harley to work. The cruise control makes it easy to periodically stick your right gloved hand into the engine to warm it up. I knew I kept that bike for something. | ||

2 degrees is almost to cold to drive the truck! It was 18 when I left the house. No wind at least. We moved to NC from ND about 6 years ago. I miss the place but not the winters  | ||

It was 23 degrees here this morning. Left the XB12Ss and took the K1200LT with the heated grips and saddle (and full wind protection)... | ||

I must be a sissy, it was only 18 degrees out this morning but I still felt compelled to ride OVER the mountain to the cooler side where the curves are, for a nice, make that, bone chilling putt for breakfast. Of course, I DID have widder electrics to keep me company. | ||

Starting these bikes when the temperature is around 32 - is it bad for these engines? A friend who owns a few Harleys told me that it damages the engines...  | ||

The Service Manual recommends a 10W40 oil for 40 degree and under starting temps. I would assume cold start ups are rougher on all engines than warm start ups, on cars and bikes alike. Temps under 12 degrees makes my clutch lever feel sticky, that's when I start driving my truck to work. | ||

I do not see any problem if you are useing the new synthetic oils, as everything remains with a coating of good oil But the old pre synthetic oil will drain off and leave a dry cylinder that some damage could ocur. | ||

In the winter months I use Rotella-T 10W40 synthetic diesel oil. | ||

in the winter i use 5w40 valvoline premium blue synthetic diesel oil.... great stuff. | ||

I took my Uly in for its 5k service this morning. Cold weather just means I don't have to wait in line at the dealership. I find my Frogg Toggs (rain gear) make great wind breakers. If I had heated gloves (or maybe just grips) and socks, I'd be in great shape. | ||
