"squared away" is an old sailing term, going back to iron men and wooden ships and all. It has to do with having the sails squared off with the wind so you get maximum driving force from the wind. But the term came in to common use around ships in general and in the modern Navy in particular to mean that people and things were the way they should be or were expected to be. You want to go ashore for Liberty? Your uniform better be squared away when you go to the Quarterdeck and ask for permission to go ashore. Jack | ||

Thanks all for your concern. How do I put this in moto-speak... My beloved wife (better looking and always more fun than any motorcycle) had some problematic spare parts removed on Monday (warranty had lapsed long ago, but the local shop did great work). We returned from hospital yesterday and I'm doing my best to ensure that she is as pampered and well-looked after as possible. I owe her BIG in this, but even if I didn't, she'd still be getting the royal treatment. Thanks all for looking after the place.  RT, You do realize that I owe you and will repay in full.
