Let me make a long story short. Going to the dragon this weekend only if,,, I can put two bikes on the back of my S-10 truck. A XB9R and a 500cc zuki. Any ideas? Can it be done. 2 bikes on on s-10! I have a good ramp and I have no problem putting on one bike @ a time. I'm just not sure about what would be the best way to put on the two bikes. Please help me so I can make this trip. Have any pics of how this would look like? Please Advise. |

Nashville is where you are, right? That's not too far. I suggest one bike in the truck at a time and ride the other, take turns. Might make for a longer trip, but less worries about bike damage. Tank |

FYI: I usually just ride-out there on the bike. Its a long story. I just thought there is some secret way to strap them down. (Message edited by barker on August 16, 2006) |

Stick a mattress between the two bikes and run a bunch of twine around the outside. |

the easies way is to put the up side by side and strap the bikes to each other up high on the forks on the side towards each other. then anchor the other side down to the truck be as normal. It's not that hard to do, but it takes a little help from a friend to keep everything balanced! strap the rear wheels down as well to keep them from walking into each other in transit. |

I hope me and my buddy, who holds a PhD in physics, can figure this thing out. I'm going to give it a try tonite. I will try post a pic of what it ends up looking like. Now I'm off to find more tie downs and/or a mattress. |

I have put two side by side. But that is with a full size pickup. Also I have placed an eye bolt in the center of the bed in the front of the bed to tie both the inside straps to. It works fine. I just had to find an eyebolt 1/2" diameter and drilled through a box support with some big washers. Need Pictures? |

What ever you do. But and use good straps. After a few miles pull over and recheck everything? |

Trailer - U-haul about $14 a day. I pulled BOTH my S3 and XB to a track day behind a puny Dodge Stratus all the way from LA up north of Sacramento to a track day at Thunderhill - and back. Time to invest in a trailer hitch! Plenty room for gear and stuff in the bed and put second bike in the trailer. |

Haven't got a clue what an S-10 truck looks like, (I'm from the UK) but when I trailer 2 bikes together, I usually put some small diameter plastic pipe on the throttle grip of one and over to the clutch grip of the other. If the pipe is about the right length, it will keep them apart and turn them into a single 4 wheeled vehicle. For extra security, something similar at the back will make it really solid, then just strap the whole lot down! Steve By the way, I do this on enduro bikes, but should be ok for others! I put two bikes in the bed of my Ford Ranger without problems. One was a Honda Ascot VT500FT (about the same size as an XB9 but longer) and the other was a Honda RC-51. We had enough tie down straps to tie each bike independently to the bed. We drove ~250 miles to upper SC, unloaded and rode 1/2 day, drove 250 miles back without a problem. I don't think it'll be a problem for you. |

Ladies and Gents may I present 2 motorcycles securely strapped down to the bed of a 2003 Chevy S-10,,,
Thank yall for your help. This might not seem like a big deal to some of yall, but I was really scratching my head on this one. Of course my Harley and metric dealerships said this could not be done. |

This was the hardest part not rubbing the straps on the fender I fixed the problem on my XB with a bungee. The guy with the zuki did not care if it rubbed on his fender.

Check the straps after a few miles, & then again regularly. Also get someone to sit on the bike then pull up the straps, this way the suspension compression keeps the straps tight. Don't forget to change your driving style too. |

Were back! Just got in. No problems with the bikes on the back of the truck. Things got bad when they got off the truck. Both bikes crashed on the Dragon (not too bad, were ok) Stay tuned for pix. |

My buddy was hauling butt and hit some gravel lost control, ran off the road and rode it out, he got into some unplanned dual-sport riding thru the woods he ended his ride in some shrubs. The girl behind him had it worse, she followed him. He came away with a few scratches on him and the zuki. He came out pretty good. Must be all that off-roading he did as a kid in africa. This asphalt thing is new to him. As for me and my bolt, a tree jump out in front of me. Just kidding,, My leg grinding (no knee pucks, field armor under jeans) got me in trouble. I was leaning left, grinding my left leg. Then the turns radius got sharper and my jeans gabbed the road harder than they had been doing earlier. It pulled me off the bike. She continued thru the turn with out me. She landed on her left side and slid by killboy. I hope he got some good pix. Drove it back to the gas station. Pix coming soon. Moral of the story don't leave home without your knee pucks. Sliders slide and jeans grab. |

I hate to sound like a jerk here but I think the MORAL of the story is to NOT ride over your ability to compensate for the things the real world always hands you. Knee pucks be damned. I hate to be a preachy a**hole but this is exactly WHY we are all facing tougher and tougher enforcement on the roads. Mountain roads ARE fun but you MUST COUNT ON dirt, water, rocks, traffic and other obstructions. You must experience target fixation and work through it to truly understand it. You ride at 90% of your capibility and suddenly need another 11% and guess what? I get to place a salvage bid on your leftover motorcycle parts from the insurance company. Glad everybody is OK but I am really becoming frustrated reading about people NOT REALIZING that things ALWAYS change on the road. Please, realize the limits of your abilities and allow for changes and you'll greatly improve your odds. Fortunately for me but unfortunately for the individuals involved, there seems to be a steadily increasing supply of salvage spare parts. We've got a good 4 months left in the killing season here in CA and I've already got my name in on 1 Buell and 1 Suzuki for spares but still need Buell wheel and suspension parts. |
