I just met a nice local fellow who recently bought a 2006 Gixxer. It is his first motorcycle, and neither he nor I know very much about it. Is there any thing vaguely like Bad Weather out there for Gixxer people? (Not that I would expect any board to be as great as this one:-) | ||

I would tell him to check out Sportbikes.net even though it is not Suzuki specific it has a lot of traffic of import bikes. | ||

I'll give another vote for gixxer.com - remarkably low on squid factor (though the 'net ALWAYS has it's share of folks with dummass attitudes) I used them when I was racing the SV - pretty good resource for any aspects of Gixxer-speak. | ||

Am I reading this right, this guy's first bike is a Gixxer 1K? Man! That would scare me. When the Gixxer 1K was new my local dealer sold a bunch, of the first six four were crashed pretty quickly. Be carefull out there. | ||

Yes - I have to echo Budo's note: Exercise caution with a litrebike as a first bike! I still find it hard to believe that people feel the need to have a bike that will spin the rear tire up in a huge sweeper at over 160 MPH - as a first bike. One piece of advice: DO NOT go on a group ride unless you're riding with people who will respect your friend's abilities and not expect him to play "catch-up." Much better a one-on-one with a more experienced rider for a couple rides a week for quite a while. | ||

I think literbikes are alot easier to ride than 600`s or 750`s, you just have to respect the power. My first street bike was a gsxr 1000. You can ride it on the street and never rev it past 6000rpms and it makes alot of low end power just like a v-twin, but then still has the monster midrange and topend. Most people drop the countershaft sprocket down 1 tooth, slipon, TRE mod, and pcIII. That should be good for about 160-165rwhp on any 04-06 gsxr 1000. You can get all this for about $500 bucks, great bang for the buck. I`ve got a couple of grand invested in my XB and it still doesn`t make 110rwhp.But it still looks cool! | ||

Timing retard eliminator. It fools the ignition box into thinking it's in 5th gear to get rid of the anti-wheelie timing retard in the first and second gears. IIRC | ||

Thanks Brian. I don't think we are at the wheelie stage just yet. Mike just wants to put on a pipe that sounds a bit more like a motorcycle, but doesn't require any fueling adjustment. We are looking at a Scorpion slip on. Anyone know anything about it? | ||

The gsxer`s(2000 and up i think) have different timing curve for every gears 1-4 to soften the power alittle. The ecm doesn`t let the bike use full timing until 5th gear, the TRE lets the bike use full timing in every gear. Result about 5-10hp more in lowend and midrange, no change in topend. I have it on mine, costs about 50bucks and just plugs in. As far as slipon i have a yosh mid pipe and slipon. The stock system is are already titanium and is very light. Any slipon will make it sound better and give you min 5-7hp without pcIII. With slipon, midpipe, and pcIII about12-15 more hp. Just in case you decide you need more than the stock 155rwhp! |
