AS someone who sold Buells for a while, all above are good suggestions, but also get good at overcoming comparative objections. You're going to run into a lot of comparisons to more traditional sports bikes. There'll be a lot of "How fast is it?" questions. Get your pitch down cold in relation to where Buells are superior to the competition and away from the terminal velocity mindset. Educate. One of the best sales tools I put together was a podium near the bikes with a collection of articles from Fuell, the major bike magazines, and from the internet. Anything that highlighted the FUN Buell owners were having. It would start conversations on aspects of ownership that the customer hadn't considered. |

Another thing, just just came to mind, from reading Aydens post... Good point, stress that a Buell is a street bike, not a race REPLICA... Another thing that my be a slick idea, after getting the Fuell articles together, knowing that most of the Buell riders I have met, are kinda young.. Surf through the picture gallery here, and find some picstures of the bikes, from , stock, to mild, to wild... ALSO, seeing who your customer base is, and the bieks they may wan tto compare, I am sure somewhere here, of pictures of Buells doing various stunts, OR, some of Ill Conducts old videos(if you can get thier permission)...little things liek that, will show people, that it isnt just a "cheap harley"...or some other mumbo jumbo... Also, I am sure we can get Al or Joanne, @ American Sport Bike to send you a catalogue, which covers a good majority of the stuff out there for the Buells, as well as HillBilly Motors in Germany(sopme really sweet products), and Trojon Moto..... get some catalogues from them...I am sure I will think of more... welcome rachel - are you new to sales? have you sold cars, recreational vehicles, or motorcycles before? are you just new to buell, or new to the whole thing? have you worked at the dealership prior to selling buells? whats your motivation for selling buells if you dont know about them? is the dealership training you? are you selling other things while you learn about buell? is there someone else at the dealership selling buells that you are learning from? will you be selling harleys as well? it'll be pretty hard to make a living selling buells only.....especially when you dont know the bike that well (yet) to effectively sell buells - you've gotta ride them and believe in them, and understand that the customer base is very different than the "typical" harley rider. do you ride? do you ride a buell? ever done a trackday? have you been through all the product literature and CDs and websites about Buell? ask your dealership about sending you to "back to the track" training as well. good luck, and welcome. another thing, if you're just looking for a list of parts or gear to upsell with bike purchase - you should check to see if your dealership is willing to carry aftermarket parts. otherwise, you're limited to the things in the buell catalog. and those are already catagorized by bike model and purpose (accessories, controls, etc.) and freely available on the buell.com website D |

I hope that you have not taken any offense to my remarks as I mean for them to be helpfull Oldog- I don't think that was taken the wrong way, I think you hit the nail on the head. Someone who shows a sincere desire about the brand, should infact get all the knowledge they can, and not just the current selling models! Study up on the Buell birth and all that it has gone through. Like Jim said, it goes beyond the spec sheet. Everyone here has added a lot of good information, and the fact that you asked was a great step in the right direction. Like I said, I'll buy. |

Buellgirlie's questions will help Mathaba maximize her csi AND enjoy the whole buell thing much more. The norm at so many dealerships is a harley riding salesperson who isn't well-aquainted with the idiosyncracies of the buell marque, the very things which give it it's niche luster and cult of personality. |

No_rice...I'm sure you look mighty pretty just standing there behind the counter... It's funny, there's a girl at the local Buell dealer that started selling bikes just recently and knew absolutely ZERO about the Buells...but she sells a crap-load of bikes.. just helps to be cute and female I guess. Luckily she's smart and took an interest in learning about the bikes...she sold me my new 12...lol.. |

I remember the first day I met DaveS, we were talking about American Thunderbike Club and he interrupted me because one of the other salesman was talking to a guy about Buells, and he said (paraphrasing), "Hang on, I need to go before he confuses the poor fellow." |

OH! i get it craig, i'm not hot enough for you.... LMAO! there in is the problem... we go for a ride and no one even notices my bike... i hate beautiful women anywhere near my bike... ok so i lied! cochise, i know exactly how he feels and so does Rachel. you have to keep an eye on people. it's so great having someone else in the shop that is into buells and wants to learn as much as possiable. I think she's just wanting to sell bikes to whomever..male, female, whatever walks in the door....mainly men, of course. There are a few female sales associates there, so it's a female friendly place anyhow. |

As soon as a pretty gal posts a pic the place goes to the dogs!!!!! I'd say the #1 piece of advice you can get is LISTEN to your clients then get the answers they need. #2 would be product knowledge #3 is having a retailer that 100% supports you and your efforts. Customer Service is virtually non-existant in many industries these days. Good Luck Now if I could only get a crappy Buell Retailer here on the island I'd be happy. If you ever get the opportunity to go for coffee with Grumpy ...................... Hey Grumps, When ya comming back to play on the island again? |

Wish I could say soon my friend. That said the wife saw a documentary on the iceberg fishers for bottling, & said she'd like to go visit there, so maybe next year, I'll have to make some money first. Y'all know Badwebbers are welcome for coffee anytime, my number is in the RAN, just let me know when you're coming. |

LMAO steve! um... no, but i actually was just thinking about that last night and almost told her. we were out for pizza with some friends and our service sucked and we were having a conversation about tips! now i'm going to have to tell her when she reads this, lol get your bike fixed yet? i snapped another belt about a week ago. some one keeps egging me on to do wheelies... like i really need encouragement! hey it had about 3000 miles on it so it had a long hard life. |

Took a while to get it in, but my tire is turned around and ready to roll. a local shop (Brick City Cycles)did the dismount, remount, and balance for 20 bucks since I pulled the wheel myself. It would have cost $40 if they had to remove the wheel. Couldn't beat that price with a stick. Now I have to burn off some of the mold release oils. (Message edited by diablobrian on June 18, 2006) |

Bike fixed, no. It ended up being the crank seal. The engine oil was leaking in to the primary, causes it to then spew out the vent. So I gots me a bit more work. Not meaning to hijack this thread...(sorry new girl). But I wanted to thank Tim and Brian for the awesome time, and lifetime memories during homecoming 2006. I know Brian is up for it next year, how about you Tim? You've got a place to stay if'n ya like. |

no worries, Steve. I heard about the homecoming and saw pictures. It looked awesome. I am kind of curious now as to what was said to the perkins waitress. Tim, you need to inform me... Anyway, I also wanted to say that I honestly wasn't expecting the response that I got from all the people here at badweb. It's great to see how everyone is helpful and knowledgeable and shares advice freely. I've already used some of your suggestions already at the dealership. |

Doh! that one had a little back-spin on it! I think he may have meant a member of the fairer sex as well. Hey Steve, you should be getting a few things for Thomas in the mail soon. Good thing you have access to Toni's City-X or you'd be going nuts by now! Hope you get yours fixed soon though. |
