and there lies the problem with such an award. Too many deserving people here on Badweb(and elsewhere) to ever decide.

Ditto, I'd have to put in a couple of votes myself !! : )

Erik would be a suitable candidate, were he not profiting (as well he should) from his participation. failing that, I'd nominate either Spiderman or Road Thing.

RT keeps outta the pissy little debates, and brings a huge helping of humour to the table. He also combines very cool old-school practicality with a good and constantly developing knowledge base of the new. Sorta the perfect, battle-experienced NCO.
Spidy conducts his presence in an undemonstrative, always-ready-to-help fashion, and he rides a very identifiaby chique buell. His knowledge of the marque, both historically and hands-on mechanically, is seriously undersung He is a fount of excellent mechanical knowledge, funny wit, and riding experience.

Two very viable candidates, right there.

now, for most idiotic bueller, or biggest a*shole, I nominate....
moi.

doesn't matter that Erik is profiting (as well he should) from his participation, that doesn't automatically make him as cool a guy as he is. i've known him for ten years, and he has continually gone above and beyond the call when it comes to being a passionate, caring, helpful individual. this doesn't come from his name being on the bikes, it comes from his heart and soul.

i don't see the conflict in considering someone "in the business."

I agree with the Erik Buell nomination, he's a pretty cool guy, not every guy who makes a profit and runs a company is that cool, it's the person that counts !!

He lives and breathes Buells regardless of whether he makes money at it or not, I believe he didn't always make money and still had the Buell Cool passion !! : )

he lives and breathes buell because he is buell....and a multimillionaire as a result.
he makes huge money at it, so the 'or not' part doesn't wrok so well in this case....
having the buell cool passion is self-love, being he IS buell.
hey- I think he's cool, I love his bikes and all, but there are many who make nothing on the brand, who give much.

There are plenty of folks who make lots of money and they don't live and breathe their product, let's see Lawyers come to mind !!

What about folks who run/own companies that make money like 3M, posted notes and stuff, bet they don't get excited about their products (other than paycheck) and spend their outside/recreation time living, breathing and being excited abuot their product !?? Dunno !!

CJ : )

I understand, CJxb- it's just that the president of 3M isn't named "Bob 3M"

My point was less argumentative (and more simply semantic) than it might have read: Buell has no choice but to live and breathe Buell, being that he IS Buell.

I get your excellent point, erik IS excited about his product. He has to be, as he invented it, unlike law firms and 3M.
No division at 3M being headed up by "Phil Von Ducttape" or anything like that.
Erik makes millions of dollars annually on his surname being plastered across these machines...when he becomes a carpenter, and continues his enthu$ia$m for the marque, then he'll get my vote.
until then, he's simply another corporate pimp.
Trust me, I admire him, and appreciate the object which brought him his immense wealth, but only in the manner in which I admire Bill Gates....

"Erik makes millions of dollars annually on his surname being plastered across these machines"

I'm not so sure about that. The use of the name sort of went with the company purchase, just as if he'd have named the company something else. It would be interesting to know if he's getting royalties on the use of his surname though. But I don't want to tangentalize this thread so please don't reply to this tangent. ;)

'scuse me now while I change the channel on this copy of MicroGates Explorer.

Go Vegas, GO!!!

FYI, a vote for Vegas is a split male/female vote.

As Nick and Sammie (sp?) did wonders for the Buellisti and the Buellisti, from Erik on down, did wonders for them at this years Daytona Bike Week!

To me, that is what having the Buell Spirit is all about.

absolutely. i like my buell motorcycle very much. I have no delusions about this multimillionaire engineer being my buddy, as a result of it.

ME, jerry haughton?

please.
I admire erik buell's engineering foresight, and his verve in taking his startup company to the show, and selling these nice bikes.
...then, when he sells the company to Harley Davidson, I even admire his openly
capitalistic manner of selling his own name to HD so as to turn a higher profit.
admirable, I say, with no sarcasm at all.
but it is corporate pimpdom, selling one's own namesake product to the highest bidder.
ME, jerry haughton?
hell, son- you don't even know me......
and I doubt erik's gonna show up at your house with jumper cables if you call him with a dead battery. he's not your friend. he's a visionary engineer, albeit a corporate pimp.
no, no ME, jerry haughton. I think you need to reassess how much of a friend he is to you.....
amazing that folks whimper about sacborg, and yet I get the " you."
i feel ashamed for you, jerry haughton....
maybe you think all your idols and heroes are your friends, as well.....

people: it's a swell motorcycle, a very swell motorcycle, and erik's a swell guy, but he ain't the messiah-
he is a corporate pimp.
so be it. doesn't make him bad.
enjoy the bikes, appreciate his engineering prowess, and move on, already.

You see, Tramp, "Pimp" has an unsavory connotation attached to the term. Maybe you didn't know that. I will give you that benefit of the doubt.
Nobody touted Erik as God or even God-like. Just a decent human being who you obviously don't know enough about to even be passing such judgement.
I didn't see Jerry "defending" anyone. You expressed your opinion and he expressed his. Simple...ugly, but simple.

that entire post is so inane you may want rethink it.
a 'pimp' is one who sells others for profit. when erik sold his company, including his own name, to HD, he pimped it out.
how well do yu know erik, pammy?
jerry defended erik when he whimpered: " you
and the you turn around and say you admire him?
you"
that, pammy, is (feeble and whimpering though it be, esp. via the internet) defense.

I seriously appreciate your effort at making a more civil, less biased point, in any event. we can all improve.

In my dictionary...pimp n a prostitutes agent.

prostitute n a person who has sexual intercourse for money;(fig)one who deliberately debases his or her talents(as for money)*vt to offer indiscriminately for sexual intercourse, esp for money; to devote to corrupt or unworthy purposes...

Now what sexual favors or facsimile there of do you propose Erik is offering?

Now, our friend Jerry, here has definitely offered a sexual token...does that make him a pimp or a prostitute...?

How about creating Two Categories.

First, a Lifetime Achievement Award for the Commercial Folks. That would include anyone that makes money off Buell's, runs a board or sponsors anything related to Buell's even the race teams. Folks like Erik, Court, Blake, Al Lighton, Dave Stueve, Dealer Sponsored Race Teams, Team Elves, etc, would be in this category.

Second, a Buelligan of the Year Award for the consumers and enthusiasts. This would include the mere mortals that for no reason whatsoever, other than their dedication to spreading goodwill, take the time to lead or make our lives better through their positive contributions to the rank and file. Anyone that makes our life better as enthusiasts without fits in this category. To be fair, that would include the custodians based on their individual efforts and not their custodial role. Folks like Ferris Bueller, Glitch, Bomber, Vegas Bueller, etc., would fall into this category.

If still too limiting, you can add more categories such as Dealer of the Year, Brag Club of the Year, Racer of the Year, Sponsor of the Year, Techno Wiz of the Year, and so on.

So you get to nominate and vote for a few more categories, but in the long run I should think it will bring out the best in everyone as well as acknowledging those that have really made a difference.

Just an opinion. YMMV

I save my rats' asses for more worthy causes. You only get so many and then they are gone.

Blake...

In as much as I agree with you, there are many former "nasty words" in our language that have been so neutered that they don't mean anything anymore. Evidence: Major network television.

Erik is no pimp, that is for sure. Not to mention he is the most real and approachable gentleman I have meet in the motorcycling world. You and Court would be tied for second on that one.

Still a phrase like Corporate Pimp, is stereotypical of the majority of corporate executives in the current competitive world where loyalty is second to compensation packages and golden parachutes. Remember the six month wonder at AT&T a few years ago? Now, he meets the true derogatory definition.

Even with this revised definition, Erik still does not qualify as he is a hands on heart and soul fellow. Sure, he is making money, but it is because he is doing something he loves. A true corporate pimp would have moved along years ago.

Not making excuses, just attempting to soften the meaning of Tramp's statement.

Well, life goes on and at least Tramp and Jerry have a meeting of the minds now. Hopefully, this will be an example to all of us to choose our words, even our slang, more carefully in the future.

Peace!
