Just bought a used XB w/ 2200 miles and I have no idea what it's service history is. Are HD dealerships high-tech like a car dealership where they can look up service history/warranty work in their computer system? Thanks

Not that I know of.
About all that you can find out is if recall work has been performed.

Recall, yes.
With 2200 miles, I'm not sure how much I'd worry about service history, unless you're concerned about a wreck?

Oh well, thanks for the replies... I was just curious to know what if anything has been done (i.e. 1000 mile service, etc.). I'll be going all through the bike anyways I guess once I get my service manual.

Snowhound,

A dealer can only trace their own limited records. Then that depends on just how long of a history they want to keep.

So if one is polite and such....

-knows which dealer is was bought from
-possibly know which dealer or dealers may have done service work
-knows previous owner, who may be willing to toss you a bone. With the above info
-contact the said service department(s). Asking politely for any available service information or otherwise. Said people behind the counter willing to and not being busy...

You might be able to retrieve some info.

Kind of been working this same thing with my RS. Dealer has long since dumped the records. I know who the original owner is and looking to contact him. To see if he has any paperwork stashed away. Also know which honda dealer it was traded in to and the next owner was. From which I purchased it from.

As an aside with a low mile late model. When you get the manual go over the 1k mile items.

Just have some fun and enjoy the trip.

Snowhound,

If you give them the VIN, I believe any dealer can tell you where the bike was sold and which (if any) recalls have been performed on the bike. For instance, in just a few seconds my local dealer was able to tell me that my 2000 S3 was originally sold in Toledo, OH and that the rear shock recall hadn't been done.

Once you have the original dealer's name, you may be able to get the service records from them if that's where it was serviced.

What Loki said.

I just purchased a 2004 XB12S. Like most Buells, the key fob had the original dealers name on it.

I simply called the dealer, and spoke to the Devine Denise in service, and after a mere 4 phone calls, she faxed me the service record.

I discovered one or two very interesting things: that the guy had put the primary ratios from an XB nine in it, and that the dealer was charging the chap exactly twice list price for parts.

Made me realize how lucky we are to have Daves, Al and the entire Bad Web World.
