I know they have been sold for a good amount of time now so there must be some high miler blasts out there, right?
All of the ones I have seen for sale have less than 8000 miles on them.

They don't explode at 10K, do they?

Our high miler stopped being a high miler about 2 years ago - somewhere around 25k or so. James (jprovo on this board) has one in the low 40's someplace.

The Blasts are reliable. Like most vehicles, the vast majority of problems are owner and / or servicer induced. I had a REALLY bad case of servicer induced problems - which resulted in a buy back. That was ALL dealership though.

Turn your own wrenches and heed the service manual with the occasional BWB detour and life should be good.

Don't know that to be true. Mine just may hit 10000 this summer (weather permitting) I'll let you know. Unless of course I trade it in on something else but slim chance of that at this point.

I am at 7000 now. I bought it three years ago with 900. I will probably be close to 10000 by the end of the season also. the only problems have been my own fault, except the dreaded rockerbox gasket.

nate are you getting yourself a new toy to play with? will be good investment if gas keeps going up. 1/2 the gas guzzling of your current bike(s)!?

Our first one had 31K on the clock when we got rid of it. Rockerbox gasket, tires, brake pads, oil. It was a 2001, black of course, and you couldn't kill it.

Well my X1 is great on gas but it seems to be a waste of 170 rear tire to loaf along at 50 on the back roads.
(of course, I passed a few trucks on the two lane this morning at about 85...)

Anyways, I was just thinking that perhaps a blast might be the right tool for the job.

I got a job offer with an even worse commute than I have now. I am already looking at tiny cars too.
I was looking at Honda "fit" but the Toyota yaris or whatever is even cheaper.

In a perfect world, I would live 10 miles from my job and drive my old chevy 9C1 caprice and own a new Ulysses.

My reality is a 50 mile commute with promise of worse commutes to come.

We did an oil change (at Ft Lauderdale Buell) on a pair of Blasts with Maine license plates, when I asked the older gent if they both fit on the back of his motor home he wanted to fight. Then I saw the odometers and they both had close to 50k. I figure that anyone that rides 50k on a Blast is tougher than me.............

Got my blast used with 1k on it. I put 15k on my before I nearly totaled it. Ran awesome for every mile. I ran it hard. Thats the reason I wrecked. I drove like a XB. The only thing I had to replace was the pegs. I ground off two pair. I have a XB9R now, it sticks to the road better.

The Big Kid has 15,000 on his. He has had his problems all because of ignorant abuse nobody would knowingly perform on a bike they cared about. Rev limiters only work on the way up.

I think it was Jonesey at the Daves "Ride your Uly to the UP" that said his wife had over 25,000 miles on hers.

Nate,
I have a 2002 Black Blast with a ton of extras. Vance and Hines exhaust, extra down pipe, K&N filter, custom graphics, custom lights and mirrors, saddle bags, tank bags all the manuals and all the original parts I took off. I am thinking about selling her. I think at last look she had 10,000 on her. Not sure, but will check. Let me know if you may be interested..

All of the ones I have seen for sale have less than 8000 miles on them.

I think a lot of that is because the Blast is marketed as:

1 - Take Riders Edge
2 - Buy a Blast
3 - Ride for a year
4 - Trade up

So you have a lot of people selling them after a year so they can get something else. You also have a lot of people who discovered they didn't like riding as much as they thought they would and end up selling a 5 yo bike with 400 miles on it.

I don't think that people who've put tens of thousands of miles on a Blast are likely to sell it. If they've ridden it that far, they like it, and it's only worth about a grand. That isn't much incentive to let it go.

Over the years, many years, that I've looked at used bikes the vast majority of them have had less than 10,000 miles on them regardless of their age. Probably something along the line of 90% of all used bikes have less than 15,000 miles on them regardless of age. This is all based upon my own personal viewpoints. For an example currently there is a Buell S2 for sale in the classifieds on the site here with something like 36 total miles on it, and there are several participants on the site here who own an S2 with well over 90,000 miles on them, at least one person is somewhere well above 100k probably approaching 200k if not more already. There is no coorelation between the average mileage of used bikes and their potential longevity.

I was at a local Harley shop yesterday afternoon, they had two baggers both around the early 1990's, both equipped about the same, both looked about in the same condition, close enough sticker prices, one had 6,000 miles on it, the other had around 80,000.

This probably doesn't add to the discussion, but my fingers were restless ... ;)

true enough.
I was hoping to find one in somewhat bad shape in terms of one side scratched up for cheap.

You know? ugly but not bent.

I wonder what the dealerships do with the riders edge class bikes? Perhaps they never throw them out?

A couple of dealerships around here sell off the Rider's Edge Blasts after a year or two. I think I saw one or two down at Hal's yesterday. Usual dents and dings, but road safe before they get sold. Any of the dealer sponsors on the site here can probably round you up one.

Riders Edge Blasts are a great deal! If you are looking for a Blast and happen on one of those, take it.

Riders Edge Blasts are a great deal!

Well, they have idled around a parking lot for 2 years in the summer heat. That can't be great for the engines. OTOH, you can usually pick them up cheap, and they sometimes come with warantees.

Here's a used Blast ... for under $3,000

Thats a bit steep. MSRP on a new one is only $4600.

I just looked on ebay. There are 13 Blasts for sale. Looks like you should be able to pick one up in the $1800-2000 range. That of course assumes you're willing to go get get it. :-)

Yup, most are "Stepping Stone" bikes. Like my Wife's Blast. Bought it with 2500 on it a couple of years ago. It's got 6K on it now(Hey, we have a kid that isn't quite old enough to ride, or there would be way more on it). January we picked her up an '06 CityX. So now, the Blast is currently up on ebay : )

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4643107852& sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT

We've had really good luck with ours. The only problems we *DID* have is due to bad gas.
