A suggestion comes to mind. We bought Dad a roadside memorial cross made of granite, the same cross that was the basis for Daryl Levesque's cross. I'm not sure what material Daryl's was constructed of or how much it cost but Dad's was right at $400.00 which included shipping from Florida. I think the Buell logo(old or new) would lend itself well to some manipulation to create something in the same vein as the bar and shield memorial crosses. Just an idea.

i give up on reaching Steve Fields at Laguna Seca regarding multiple pavers. i can't reach him direct, and he hasn't returned my calls.

seems like the consensus all along was one 12 x 12 paver, which would be cool.

a memorial cross at the site would be nice, too.

RE: concerns about a memorial cross:

[1] security - how well do these things survive over time along a public roadway? Sub-concern is material selection.

[2] access - exactly who has property rights at the spot [near the telephone pole?] where a cross would be installed.

[3] appropriateness - was Gordon a Christian?

We've had one cash donation trickle in over the last two weeks so it's pretty safe to say the collection effort has ran it's course.

Thanx to you, jb, for your leadership in all this.

Let's assume there's $2000 available:

[1] how many $500[?] pavers will be purchased?

[2] will leftover funds be directed toward:

(a) a memorial fun?

(b) patches?

thanx for waking me up RE: Gordon's passing....

OK, guys, the Q remains - can we use some of the $$$ [now] to fund creating a memorial patch, once the paver[s] is/are paid for?

weigh in, please

I suggested before that we use the funds for pavers for other Bueller's who have crossed the bar. Especially Lone Wolf (I think that was his screen name) who fought a courageous battle with cancer. His wife and extended family gave updates dailey. I think it affected everyone who read the site. A true portrait of courage.

finally!! - input...

I vote for keeping this effort Gordon-related, until memorial[s] {paver(s)/patches/Ts} are complete.

At that point, assuming $$ remain, I [speaking only for myself] would surely be open to expanding the scope to include lost folk such as Lone Wolf.

Until we're done remembering Gordon, could we please focus on appropriately applying the $2k+ donated in Gordon's memory?

Curt, sorry so quiet on this thread, have been preoccupied elsewhere. finally figured out (with an assist last night from Blake) how to pull the thread out of the archives and get it back to the top of the Quick Board.

the 12 x 12 paver for Gordon at Laguna will cost about $500, which leaves about $1500 to use for other expressions of respect for our fallen brother.

i agree that the $ should be focused toward Gordon in some way, shape or form, as the $ donated to this point was donated for that very specific purpose.

please refresh my/our memory as to your patch idea. it's been awhile, and again my apologies for letting this thread wither on the vine for a bit.

i have an e-mail out to Vik asking him to pull the trigger on the paver with the folks at Laguna, altho i pinged him several days ago and haven't heard back. Vik, if you're lurking, i could still use your logistical help in making the paver happen.

someone had mentioned a memorial cross before, and someone else had some VERY good questions in response, such as whether Gordon was a Christian (i don't know), who owns the rights to the spot where the cross would be placed (i don't know, i suspect the county), etc.

i wouldn't mind re-visiting this subject.

folks, we generated a lot of money to pay our respects to our friend Gordon (THANK YOU!), and if we can get another lively discussion going regarding righteous ways to utilize this money in his honor, well, that'd be tremendous.

one last time, humble apologies for letting this thread get away for a bit, and humble thanks to JB2 (and Blake) for helping me bring it back into the spotlight.

ride in peace, Gordon Buhle.

We'd have $500 for one 12x12 paver plus $150 each for however many replica pavers for close family members who would appreciate having one. His brother for sure. So at least $650.

My vote would be to send the rest to the RRW Action fund for road racing air fence in memory of Gordon. Not only a great memorial, but a productive one that might even save a life.

My vote would be to maintain all the donations in their entirety to memorialize Gordon. I'm sure their are a number of others deserving of similar rememberance, but this is about Gordon. He suffered a sudden and tragic passing. I want all my donation to go to him. Please don't take that the wrong way. Please let's keep this only about Gordon.

Jerry,

Thanx to you & Blake & money collectors.

I raised some of those Qs RE: roadside memorial cross - they're all worth addressing, and some [property rights/security/durability] may be prohibitive.

My patch idea is simple: 1- or 2-color lettering on a quiet background; some meaningful, legible text [perhaps inspired by that on paver?]; reasonable size, perhaps 2"x4" [I'll see what's already sewn on my jacket at home].

The airfence idea is OK - I'm unsure about Gordon's level of interest in racing....

Blake, please post a link to the RRW Action Fund so those not familar can get up to speed.

replica pavers for family are a GREAT idea. i am aware that GB's father has donated to this fund...

Curt, GB was certainly a Laguna fan, but not sure his interest in m/c racing in general.

i'd be interested in owning a patch that honored Gordon. any idea on cost?

GORDON BUHLE MEMORIAL FUND
2135.66 Previous Balance
(1100.00) PAVERS
------
1035.66 current balance

Ferris has closed the loop on the memorial pavers and today we paid Laguna Seca $1100.00 for five pavers. There will be the memorial paver at the steps to Laguna and four replicas. The replicas will go to Chris Buhle, Loren Buhle, Pearci Bastiany and Monique Morales. The cost includes all shipping for the replicas. The proof will be sent to Ferris for approval. I'll let him cover that base when he has the image in hand.

Roger that.

With the anniversary American Sport Bike Night meeting coming up in a few days, may I now go ahead with the Gordon patches?

The idea is simple: 1- or 2-color lettering on a quiet background; some meaningful, legible text [perhaps inspired by that on the paver(s)?]; reasonable size, perhaps 2"x4-1/2".

The airfence idea is still a good one, too.

I appreciate some direction, please, be it from the peanut gallery or others.....

Curt, i dropped you a PM a few minutes ago re: the patches...

yes, please proceed with the patch idea. i've spoken recently with Chris Buhle, and he and his family like the idea.

they are comfortable providing some "seed" money from Gordon's memorial fund for this.

if at all possible, i'd like the patches to be obtained thru Court Canfield's sister, Chris Canfield.

BADWEB owes her a favor, she's in the business (Canfield Ad Specialties, LLC), and it'd help keep the $ in the family.

her e-mail is ccanfield1 at cox dot net

Chris Buhle has voted for the remaining memorial funds to go to a worthy motorcycle education-related cause -- anyone have any suggestions?

i finally got the proof "confirmation" letter from Laguna Seca in the mail today regarding Gordon's paver, and everything looks good.

the replica pavers are supposed to be shipped 6-8 weeks from the date of the letter (12/15/05), and Gordon's paver (the original) should be in place overlooking the Corkscrew long before the 2006 racing season begins at Laguna.

Thanks FB for getting the thread to the top of the page. A check for the balance of $1035.66 is being sent today to Chris Buhle. Several months have passed and a perfect use for the remainder of the memorial fund has yet to be selected. We felt it best that the family hold the money until one has been selected. I believe Chris will report the final decision to Ferris or post it here. It was an honor to help out with this effort. Thanks to all who donated and may his memory live with us for all the rest of our days.

here's the latest on Gordon Buhle's memorial fund.

as a refresher, $2135.66 was raised by the good people of BadWeB, SacBORG and others, to purchase a 12" x 12" memorial paver in Gordon's honor at the "Steps to the Corkscrew" at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California.

in the end this money purchased not only the original paver for the track, but also four "replicas," one each for Chris Buhle and Loren Buhle (Gordon's brothers), Monique Morales (Gordon's ex-wife), and Pearci Bastiany (Gordon's best friend).

from the beginning, Jim (JB2) and Kim Bantz have been the "caretakers" of the memorial fund. the purchase price for the original paver and the four replicas came to $1100.00.

the remaining fund balance of $1035.66 has been held in the meantime by JB2 and Kim, while various ideas of what to do with this money have been entertained among the folks who knew, or knew of, Gordon. several great ideas have been tossed around, but so far nothing has gelled.

last Wednesday, in an effort to help JB2 and Kim clear their books, i contacted Chris Buhle and asked if he would take over as caretaker of the remaining fund while a decision is made as to what to do with this money, to which he readily agreed.

Chris' reply read, in part, "I'll place it in a special account - and not touch it until I move it to where it should go - which I believe will be some sort of donation to a rider safety/education program - which I think all will agree is [ironically] appropriate."

i thank you all again for your generous contributions in honor and memory of a very good man.

Gordon Buhle, ride in peace.
