In 2001, Loli, my better half, became bound and determined to get herself on a bike. In doing so, she almost literally had to twist my arm to get one too. We both wound up with Blasts. For me, it was cheap. For her, it was one of very few bikes she could flat foot. And it was American - a fact important to her and her Grandfather who served in the Pacific in WW2 and Korea. Over the course of the next couple of years, Loli became a decent rider. I loved riding with her and watching her progress. Definitely a smooth street rider. Not particularly quick or anything but very competent. She rode The Pace - and she'd never read the article or been exposed to its virtues. Her helmet would shake side to side if she had to make even the smallest correction. In the same spot of time, it seems that she was having more and more trouble keeping her health under control (viciously asthmatic and allergic). We moved in late 2004. Since then, she's ridden ONCE. Yesterday we made the decision to pull her from the insurance policy. This is after her being on three forms of steroids for the last few weeks just to be able to breathe - kinda sorta. Loli says she's done riding. I can't accept this so easily. I've known this is coming - but I guess I was holding out for some sorta magic lung cure. It's not just a loss of a riding buddy. It's like giving in or something. This just slays me. I've barely been riding since she stopped. It's not the same. I LOVE motorcycling - but I'm having a tough time with this. I'm lucky in that I never feel the need to "escape". Motorcycling was something I enjoyed WITH Loli. There's a garage full of bikes that are at least as saddened as I am. Nobody around me seems to be able to appreciate what this means to me. Maybe I'm overreacting or being overly dramatic. I dunno. I just know that regardless of which bike I ride, I've been missing Loli. One of few people who's proportions make the Blast look like a "normal" sized bike. The gal with the annoyingly loud single causing double takes from riders and non-riders. I guess I can always hope she'll change her mind. -Saro | ||

Saro: sorry to hear this, have you looked in to the idea of a "sick house" in essence some folks have horrid breathing and allergy problems diagnosed as asthma or similar. When in fact there are "micro organisims" growing in out of the way places in the home. Commonly in the duct work or the walls If loli is in contact with the allergens either at work or home it can cause serious problems my supervisor is a young man in his mid 30's and quite healthy, was mis diagnosed with asthma when in fact he is quite allergic to black mold, ( you may know this I just thought I would ask ) again I hope that She will recover.. | ||

I can sympathize man. The wife and I used to ride back B.C.(before children). When I got my first bike, my wife was my girlfriend. It did not take too many rides for her to decide she wanted to ride herself. So I sent her to school and set her up with a bike. When we had the kids, we found the bikes just sat in the garage and we ended up selling both of them. I have since bought another bike but she has no plans of getting one herself. I miss riding with her for sure. | ||

Can she drive? A chaiser is a beautiful thing for carring tools, spare parts, gas, hot coffee, snacks and company at the stops. My GF has Fibermialga - A nerve disorder - and she can't do long distance riding, though she is learning to ride so that perhaps we could do short jaunts - there are a lot of nice scenic roads worth riding near by. She really appreciates the beauty of the backroads I pick, and in her lil sport Honda car she still has some fun in the curves while enjoying the scenery - 121 to 128 and back convinced her, with hwy 1 as a tease as well. Funny thing is she knows a few backroads herself and we've had fun exploring those as well. And if following you down the road she feels a bit chipper, you can trade places for a bit and let her have a go - it is my plan for my GF so that she can still enjoy riding. I feel for you Saro - Loli is a really good rider and a fun person to know, her company on the first SLO ride made everything a bit more fun - lol - involvement is always the key - tell her Ed says hi and she still has my vote - can she still do short rides? Can she drive? I really feel your pain. EZ | ||

Ed- Right now Loli can't even drive. The steroids are affecting her vision! Dunno if it's cause they're tensing up the muscles that change focus or if she's having some serious blood sugar issues. Tests are being run. They're also making her shakey and unsteady. When she gets of the extra steroids she's on now (she takes 2 forms of steroids regularly) she will be able to drive again. My mom has fibromyalgia. She's found that changes in diet and some light exercise (walking) help A LOT. She's a different person since she got some guidance from a holistic herb lady. -Saro | ||
