How old was your kid when you started riding them on the back of your bike.. I let my rugrat ride on my tank, around the yard sometimes..but thats it..she isnt even 3 yet...

Anyway, I know its a bit early...but...just looking for a general idea...or advise...

Thanks..

My daughter was 5 or so. She was able to reach the footpegs and we got her an XS kids helmet. Only went on neighborhood 30mph or less roads for a good year or so.

my daughter is 6 shes been riding on the back of mine for the last couple years. once she was old enough to understand that she needed to hold on or she would fall off she got to ride. only in the last year or so have i left town with her on the back though. before it was always around town, so slower speeds.

My daughter started riding with me at 5 also...Just around town for short rides...Kids have very short attention spans, so just because they know they are suppose to hold on, doesn't mean they will stay focused for too long...My daughter is now 11 and I would consider doing a 100 mile day with her...with lots of breaks and pit stops...

Depends entirely on the attention span of the kid in question.

I have 3 kids and all 3 are as different as can be and do things at a different pace.

Mine is six and wouldn't even think about putting her on back due to her attention span. She sits on the tank and loves it, but I have to tell her to hold every 30 seconds, if I don't she acts like she's in a parade and waving to the crowd...

Well, years ago when I was young, my brother was three and I rode him on the tank in front of me (Honda Rebel 250).

With my son, I didn't have a bike when he was real small, so it was about the time he was 8 years old that I got the bike again and started riding him. His problem isn't his attention span. It's that his legs have become so freakishly long that he gets uncomfortable riding on the pillion. He's 13 now and huge. I think I'm just going to get him his own bike.

My son went on short road rides (< 10 miles) with me when he was 6. Now he's 9 he's a perfect fit on the Firebolt's pillion and holds on via a belt harness with handles.

Given the chance, he never hesitates to 'go on the bike with Dad'

My daughter started when she was 11 but didn't like the FJ1200, now she's 14 & wants to ride on the back of the M2 whenever possible.

Um...

Need I say more?

It really depends on the kid. Some as early as 3, if they reach the pegs (I know a guy who put footpegs on the top shock mounts of his harley so his 3 year old could ride with him). It really depends on if they can understand and FOLLOW the instructions to hold on. Having a backrest makes for a helpful addition for early ones...

9 months on the tank up and down the driveway (or around the block when Mom wasn't lookin)

on the back, when she could reach the pegs --

the fun wore off pretty quickly until she got tall enough to either see over my shoulder or lean a lil to look around me -- THEN, nothing could keep her off the scoot (except attention from the boy of the minute ;-} )

My daughter is 5...and she has gone for short ones a couple of times...She can't reach the pegs on my S3..so I had t take wifes Sportster...Everytime I get the bike out she asks if she can go...Soon...Very Soon. I want to get them (Daughter 5, and Son 3) into it as much as possible. My son rides his bicycle (No training wheels) like it is going out of style...as soon as he can work it, I may be buying them a tiny dirt bike...I want to fuell the interest in motorcycles (especially BUELLS!!)

I have three kids. The 10 year has been riding on the back on the highway since she was eight. As you can see she has pretty good gear. She is on her second full face helmet, she has her own leather and Joe Rocket mesh jackets and chaps.

The four year old has been riding since she was three, but in front and just around the neighborhood. She wears the 10 year old's old helmet, a thick jacket and gloves.

The soon to be two years old, took his first ride on the driveway Sunday. I was just walking it back to the end of the driveway and riding it back at walking pace, but he loved it.

I have to say the little ones will be six or seven before I take them out on the highway in back of me.
