I limit myself to someone old enough to fend for themselves as it were.
And in the same vein, old enough to comprehend instruction.

I started giving my guy rides when he was 8.

Can't wait for my little guy to be able to ride. He's currently only 4, and is scared to death of the bike(" Dad, it's too noisy" ). But we've already been buying gear for the future. Picked up a BRAND NEW XS 1st Gear Kilimanjaro last wekend for $80 at the Torque Center. Last year we picked up a pair of the Buell XS "touring" pants for $30.

There is a company out there that sells a line of armored clothing for kids.

looked at the stuff at Chicago IMS. VERY nice stuff!

When my kids were big enough to reach the passenger pegs they would go for very short rides.

I'm not big on passengers at all on the S1, the DR650 is much nicer for passengers.

But this is my favorite way to ride with the kids.

The only time I was ever scared with my 12 year old son on back, we where 500 miles from home and he kept falling asleep. Luckily he kept falling forward into my back

I didn't do it exactly like the articles suggested, but they have good ideas.

Just remember that your kid has absolutly no idea of what to do. You have to tell them everything, from how to get on, to how to lean. And they will be nervous the first time, so don't overwhelm them.
