Yah I like how the guy says." I was gonna hit another car so a braked and I swerved." It almost looked like he was trying to swerve intentionaly, for what reasons I dunno. There was no care near him. Glad she has got video. |

Looked like he paniced, the rear brakes locked up and when he swerved, it sent him into the spin, kinda like when your talking on the phone, look up and see brake lights The funny things is it apears that the girl was riding safe, safe distance, plenty of space sucks when that happens Glad its on video, she earned that R |

Glad it was on video since the guy is claiming he was stopped and she just ran into him... Pretty tough chick. |

Seems clear to me that the cage caused the accident. I'm trying to learn from this. If she could have swerved into a different lane, it looks like she might have been able to avoid the collision. She was definitely giving him as much of her lane as she could. Maybe there were other cagers in the other lanes. Thinking quick enough to do it is tough. Seems even tougher to aim for where he was when he started to spin as that would be gambling that he would spin out of the way. I've never seen somebody lock the back brakes accidentally and pull a 180 in the street. And predicting where somebody will end up is a crapshoot. Anybody got any insights? Thanks. |

There was no where to go. You wouldnt swerve left, because you dont know if the car is actually going to leave that lane. You wouldnt swerve right, there was a car there. You wouldnt hammer the brakes, there are cars behind you. The Civic actually goes through her lane a couple of feet, and she goes into the lane to her right as far as possible without hitting the car there. Also, there were only 2 seconds from the time the car starts sideways to the point of impact. Not much time at all. |

Anybody got any insights? Not really. I've never seen a car do that on the street. If I tried to protect myself from that I don't think I could ride in traffic :-) I read some of the posts from the forum linked above. Someone timed the video from the time the car started breaking until she hit it. It was 2 seconds. She got trapped between the car that spun and the car to her right. The only way she might have gotten out would be to have swerved left around the car that spun. But knowing to do that requires you to know where the car is going to stop after it starts spinning. She has 2 seconds to figure this all out. I think she is just screwed. There is certainly no way I could have gotten out of there. |

I know how hind sight is 20/20. Judging by what happened I would think going to the left would have worked better. Something to think about should this happen to you. She did try though, problem was the car on the right didn't move. Had it done so she probably could have pulled that off. All in all, at least she had the camera with here because this video will serve at a reminder to all of us how quickly things can happen. I also like these videos because they give me situations that I can run through my head so I myself can come up with how I plan to deal with them. |

if you ask me, and I am no expert, but the only way that a front wheel drive car will lock up and spin like that is when the e-brake is pulled. It didn't help that the cager to her right wasn't paying too close attention. if they were they would have swerved from seeing the civic coming at them from the side. was kind of funny, if you listen to the people that stopped, someone is referring to "him" then another person says "its a woman" then "oh that came after was worhty of a giggle. Serioulsy though, my heart was pounding a little harder watching that. (Message edited by gearhead998 on February 14, 2006) |

my uneducated guess is that the left front tire blew out on the car. and when the person tried to stop that wheel was sliding more than the other... causing the spin. but i'm probably wrong |

No tire blew...listen to the cage driver try to weasel his way out of it. "I was trying to swerve so I wouldn't hit the other car...." BS! I dunno what that a55hat was doing, but I'm agree with a lot of the other people in thinking he pulled his emergency brake. The rear brakes definitely lock before the front causing the spin. |

He was trying to pull some BS stunt to impress the biker. I have had these idiots come up on me on the highway and want to race and try to show off in their "racecars". |

thinking he pulled his emergency brake. You can see his brake lights come on in the video. I don't think they do that with the emergency brake. |

Looks like he panicked, turned to the right which in turn unweighted the right rear and locking it up allowed the rear to swing around? Hope the squirrel is insured! |

Someone mentioned it earlier, I'll bet he was on the phone and saw the car ahead slowing and over reacted. She should have his cell records checked. |

Hope the squirrel is insured! paint me in a bad light if you must, but I wonder if he is even a legal citizen. time at time again we see / hear of horific traffic accidents where the person who causes it, shouldn't even be here to be able to cause it... |

I don't know, I watched it a couple times. He had plenty of room in front of him, far left lane with a divider... Looks to me he just did an ebraker. |

I'm quite impressed with her and the bike she's on! I like the gear she is wearing, AND having the foresight to buy and record her rides! I bet she'll put 1000 event-less miles on her bike before something like that happens again. I think this may lead others including my wife to get a set up such as hers. Ride-on Dawn! |

no doubt in my mind he is an idoit with an EBRAKE. I dont care if you hit the brakes on a civic and turn the wheel like he did, it wont spin like that! If you watch it closer, the rear brake smoked before the front! WHATS THAT TELL YOU???? COngrats to her for wearing the gear!! |

Anybody got any insights? Besides wearing the right gear, the only thing I would add (in hind sight) is try not to be in a spot with no way out. Part of the scanning proceedure MSF and other courses teach is to always consider the unexpected and have a place to go. I realize that is a lot easier to say than do, especially being in traffic, but seems worth considering. |

Looks like her spacing was good, the quickness of the swerving black civic and the other car on her right elimenated her escape route. She definitely got lucky, and kudos to her for not being a squid.. |
