Firebolt, hang around man. ANY website is gonna have folks who care for your style, and folks who don't, just like life itself.

for what it's worth, i don't think you're trolling. on the other hand, your first post is a little insulting to the Buell faithful, so it's reasonable to expect a little heat, right?

like i said, i don't think you're trolling, and would hate to see you leave on account of a little criticism.

for what it's worth, i wish Buells made more power, too.

You may want to change you profile as well. Your "TOP SPEED" is listed as 120mph.
As Ferris stated above, I ,too, thank you for your service. It would be really stupid and sad to see you get hurt or killed riding at those speeds on a public road after making it home safe from Iraq. I am not doubting your ability, but I do question your sanity for endangering yourself and others riding on PUBLIC roads like that. Mark my words, a tragedy is in someones future. Not if , but when is the question. Stay safe.

Again, don't put others in danger cause you like to go fast. Take it and keep it on the Track. How do you think someone would feel as you drift helplessly into their lane and SMASH there you are a big pile of mush. Sure, you died loving what you were doing, but the other person has to live the rest of their life guilt ridden. That would suck.

I dunno, I was too scared to look down. BTW, I survived my 20's.

yeah, i survived, too.

my point in asking was to illustrate that several of the players on this thread are bagging on Firebolt for riding fast on public road.

and yet, i bet everyone who has posted on this thread has, in your words, ridden fast enough to scare themselves.

i'm willing to bet a cup of Starbucks (or five dollars, whichever comes first), that many, if not all, of the folks posting here STILL ride fast on public roads, faster than the posted limits, and faster than anyone who has never ridden would ever consider sane.

so...

...so, i'm not condoning riding "fast" on public roads, nor am i fully convinced that Firebolt is routinely taking corners at a buck-thirty, but before anyone here bags on anyone else here for riding "above the law," think about how you ride on the street.

i'm willing to bet that cup of Starbucks that there's not an innocent in this bunch.

: )

Not sure what videos your referring to, but I've posted 2 links since I've been a member here. One was to a MotoGP video and one was to a video of after crash footage. Let me find that one. Personally ANYONE that rides like that on the street or does the gay ass "watch me do a wheelie for the 1,000,0000,000 time videos" is an ass in my book.

Got news for you, I've NEVER done 130mph on a public road. And I've had plenty of bikes able to do that, including the 2 I own now. Don't lump me in that bunch.

People ask me all the time how fast were you going. My reply is that I do not know. First I rarely ride fast on straight roads. Second at high speeds like some of us ride you better not be taking your eyes off the road ahead. As far as the sportbike thing I have been on both types of bikes and so far there are very few people that can keep up with the Buell on roads that the Buells were made for. If you are a good rider you should be so far ahead of the other bikes in the corners that they cannot catch up in the straights. This thread was started just to stir everyone up. Hell if he wants to ride another brand bike fine.

Sure put me on the spot. I go no faster than the left lane on the Freeway will allow me.

maybe, maybe not.

i'm bettin' not.

and if the conversation remains civil, a little "stirring up" can be a harmless, stimulating activity.

No, but maybe that's a field I should try!!
To be truthful, I'm sure I've hit 100 now and then. But I did say I've never done 130!!!
Now excuse me. I need to fill out some paper work. I'm going to run for Mayor!

Jerry,

You're absolutely right. Again. However, my point was really to illustrate the impracticality of purchasing a street motorcycle based solely upon RWHP, top speed, etc...

I sort of got sidetracked by Blake's accident post.

I never meant to sound baggish on Firebolt. I just saw a news story the other day on young GIs coming back from Iraq and killing themselves on crotch rockets.

I remember buying a bike when I came home from there after the first one. I nearly killed myself. Several of the folks I served with succeeded in killing themselves on bikes. That story was like deja vu for me.

Luckily, I discovered the helicopter and gave up bikes until I grew up some more. I think I burned off most of my lifetime supply of adrenaline screaming along at 120 knots 10' above the trees.

I really don't think you're trolling. I remember you posting a while back and never saying anything that sticks out in my mind as cutting up on Buell. I truly hope what ever issues you're facing turn out for the best. I just hope you don't add handicapped to that list, that's all.

thats because i love buells and will always love buells Like i said mr. buell and the whole company are a bunch of amazing people. All i was saying is at this time they do not have a bike that is right for me and my riding needs. Once they build one that i feel fits that profile i will be the first in line to buy it.

Firebolt, the problem with your thread here is that folks don't understand the point of it.

Think about what you said: You came onto a pro Buell website, said while you admire them, you wouldn't have one because Buells don't have the top speed capability you desire. Then to support your position, you site an anecdotal tale about a road with a bend in it that some, and I guess I am to assume you, like to ride on at extremely high speeds.

Now the problem with your line of thought is this:

Many of the people who frequent this site are very experienced sport riders with tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of road and track miles who take riding very seriously. They do not advocate overtly irresponsible behavior on motorcycles such as the extremely high speeds on public roads.

Buells aren't designed or meant to be high speed motorcycles. They are high cornering limit street machines that are fun to ride at speeds that sane people generally ride on public roads.

Current Buell models are gear limited to 135-140 mph, but can and do go faster with gear changes, but it is expensive and requires eliminating the final drive belt. Besides, as stated above, high speed is not what Buells are about.

Your statements come off as "back handed compliments" and your tone pegs you as what is referred to as a "SQUID". No one is asking you to go away, but your comments are coming off as ill informed and frankly, sound immature and foolish.

If you have spent as much time on this site as you have stated, and I don't doubt you have, particularly siting some of this site's heavy hitters, you have missed the point of this "family", this site, and the products of the Buell Motor Company.

If anything, it looks like in their own way, they're worried about your well being and continued existence in this world. I know I am. Your statements about your skills tell me your an accident waiting to happen. From personal experience as a race driver, your over confidence is going to get you hurt or killed in short order. High performance riding (or driving) is fun, but it's serious fun, and an attitude like yours will likely be your un-doing. I don't think anyone would like to see that happen. I don't want to see that happen to you.

Mark my words: if you survive your speed obsession, still can function and want to continue to ride high performance motorcycles, you will find Buell to be the machine to fill that need.

In the mean time, if you ever make it to the east coast, feel like doing a track day, say at VIR, lets' go and have fun. I'll smoke you like a cheap cigar on my "slow" Buell, but it will be fun

Buells aren't designed or meant to be high speed motorcycles.

hmmmm.......

isn't it ironic that the FIRST Buell was designed and meant to be a high speed motorcycle.

and hey, the LATEST one is, too!

Ayden, perverse curiousity at work here: at what exact speed does riding a motorcycle on a public road become "overtly irresponsible behavior"?

im never said im the best rider in the world or on this site and you may be better than me i ride alot not saying i have all this seat time that others have. I did at one time have a 2003 xb9r but i sold it with plans of buying a 12 but sertin things happened to were i wasnt able to buy it so in desperation i bought a bike that i could afford. At first i resented it absilotly hated the bike but still i was determined to ride the dang thing to the best of my ablitlys and then to the bikes ablitys and once i got comfortable with it and started being able to push my self on it and i started having fun on it much like i did on my buell but seem to be riding faster than on my buell. i started riding with a motorcycle club and they was impressed by my riding and so i started riding with them and i started steping it up a notch more to keep up with other riders in that club. I even got confident to do track days and had fun maybe i should slow down on the streets, but will i probly not. Also before anyone misunderstands me when in town i do not ride like that.
