My Mom lives in CANADA My potential in-laws have departed this planet. My ex-in-laws have not yet, but 1000 miles made them tolerable. It was their daughter I couldn't stand.

last i heard they're both doing fine, they're both exceptional human beings, and dyed-in-the-wool milfs

I got along better with both my ex-mom-in-laws than I did with their daughters!!
So now I am dating older women!!
Maybe Tramp will hook me up with phone numbers for the milfs!

i kept my wife 500-1000 miles away from her mom most of the 32 years we've been together, but my wife didn't like her mom much either. her mom passed this year. the likelihood that i'll have another is-0-! once married is enough for this fella.
good luck,
tim

Having 4 lovely little active children we would be lost without mine. My wife works as well and in the day Nanny is the primary care giver for the kids. We both know that they are safe and secure with her. We have our differences at times but in the end it all works out.

She is a pretty good cook too.

have to agree with newfie. having kids and living in new york where taxes require both parents to work 8 days a week would be very tough without "grandma's" daycare.
i will admit that the mother in law aka "princess" does get me though.

I've had my mother in law, less than 1 year and it has been fine, she is a sweet lady. Though I did take her, my wife, 400 miles away from her parents to where I was able to find a job and provide for her.

The visits are lots of fun, I've made the travel from here to where they live, in the past so many times it's like a second home.

While my MIL(MotherInLaw) was alive we had a great relationship.. Well, there were a few moments when it was kind of .. Uh.. tense.. (I can see her thinking.. 'What does my daughter see in that motorcycle trash?') But one we got it all smoothed out, she was a great lady, I actually miss her. Didn't hurt that we lived over far enough away that visits were only every so often.

What can I say? I got lucky!

My MIL passed away several years ago. I got along with her very well. We never did live very close to them. The few pet peeves I had with her have been put to good use as we are now parents in law. The urge to speak when I should keep my mouth shut is recognized.

Mine is cool, she even rides a Buell and is a member of Badweb now!
I'm a lucky guy.

Bobbie(my MIL) has been a big help with Kandie and me being apart during the week for the last year and a half.
She rides to Appleton with Kandie once a month in the summer to save me the trip home(and so they can raid the coffee isle at Woodman's).
I feel a lot better about them riding together than I would about Kandie riding that far by herself. She even has her own room at my apartment.
Bobbie is more like a good friend than a Mother in law.

Then I said, I married you not her. If I have to, I will divore you to get rid of her......

Eh, well... we can't all be patient and tolerant..

Now that I think of it, her daughter didn't like me that much either:-).

With certain types of relationships, it's just a matter of choice. You can choose to be easy to get along with or you can choose to cause or contribute to problems......

I have absolutely no problem with Lake_Bueller's mother-in-law. joker

Took my M-I-L on a ride once, that was back in my Yamaha days. She won't get near the Buell.

If you're M-I-L is giving you problems, in most cases it is probably because you could be doing better for her daughter. Be honest. Men are pigs.

Oink! : D

Funny, I just posted on the "Neighbor's" thread about my MIL living right behind me! Like someone else said, I try to stay as nuetral as possible when she is around. She can be sweet at times, but LORD help me, she has her moments of dementia I believe.

Isn't it funny how that word reminds you of DEMON!

Wobnt argue with teh men are pigs statement...

BUT, my MIL, hates me AND her other son in law...

We are both active duty, and she feels, that her daughters deserved to marry some rich suckers...etc etc...

I dunno, she is all about money, she has a house on teh side of a mountain, in Oregan...clear on teh otehr side of the country thankfully.....

But, other than that.....

Bobbie -
You could be my mother-in-law any day, but Dave already has you. What a way to make a man jealous but to have both a wife and MIL as riders.
I think that mine put up with me because her daughter did.

What a strange thread for a Buell motorcycle board. Here, I'll bring it back to a two-wheeled discussion. I like my MIL, maybe because she is from Spain, doesn't speak much English and I don't speak much Spanish! Actually, she's very cool and only hassles me about not giving her any grandchildren yet (she has 8 siblings! The Pope strikes again!). Now the motorcycle part; here is a picture of her from her youth. Anybody recognize the make and model of the bike she's sitting on? I've never figured it out...

Nope:
Not a Montessa, Bultaco or Ossa.
Pretty darn sure about that.
From the forks and fender, I think this is either an NSU, or a Spanish produced version that used a Spanish Villiers motor.
Can't get any closer than that.
I lived in Madrid for a while in 1961 before Spain joined the common market. They had quite a few small motorcycles that were not seen outside of Spain, and that were produced in joint venture with other European manufacturers.
I caused quite a stir when I arrived in Spain on my then new BMW R69S. I got stopped by the police all the time on one pretext or another: they really just wanted to look at the only R69S in Spain, and never gave me a ticket:-).

I had to get BRAG to call a tow truck for my bike. My mother-in-law drove over an hour after work on Monday evening to drop off her bike for me to use to get to and from work until the Buell is fixed. She also bought a sixer of some quality IPA and sat on the couch watching Monday Night Football with me. She's pretty cool in my book.

I want to say Motobecane or Mobylette or something like that.

I was stationed in Spain for three years in the 70's. The National Police rode a big (500cc?) Sanglas four stroke single, had an engine that sort reminded me of the Matchless or AJS singles. I never saw one of those bikes in a private hands in Spain, only the police had them.

I drew a crowd with a Honda 750 four everywhere I went. The most common motor vehicle in Spain was the Seat 600 (Spanish made Fiat 600) and many people simply could not believe that a motorcycle could have a 750cc engine.

I let one of the Guardia Civil motor cops take the Honda for a spin from the service area on the then new high speed Autopista near Sevilla. I cautioned him that it did strange things at higher speeds and when braking and accelerating hard. He came back in about 15 minutes, said it was fast but it certainly handled lousy.

He thanked me for the ride and warned me that I would not be able to outrun the Guardia on Spanish roads. I agreed with him, and told him that.

My czech mother-in-law gave me a beautiful bowtie and cummerbund ("crumbcatcher" ) to wear to attend Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at Prague's National Opera, when i first moved there....cost her about 3 day's wages...
she once stood on line for 8 hours to bring home some dried-out apples to bake for a warm Christmas Eve that she invited us to her flat for....
one of the warmest human beings I've ever known.... we used to drink becherovka and laugh at the mice 'sliding out' on the shiny linoloeum floor... Her name's "veni", (same as my Sicilian Grandma), so i called her "My Cousin Vinny"
she ever picks up the phone, I'm on the next plane...
