I just did a google image search on "self-perpetuating" and came up with this:

Sometimes the planets align.
Think I'll go drink some orange juice.

A less expensive alternative to the Barnett Extra Plate kit is the EnergyOne MFG extraplate clutch kit. It has been wonderfully smooth and quiet within my commutered in heavy traffic with no lanesplitting allowed for 3600 miles in a month and a half...Slightly heavier feel then stock.

Going back to FMJ's point of reference to the throwout bearing, or bearing assembly, going a step further away from that particular bearing, with the clutch lever pulled, you load the bearings in the ramp mechanism, with the lever released, you unload the bearings in the ramp mechanism. With the adjuster screw too tight, those bearings are under tension more then with the the adjuster screw loosened. Is it possible, with the abuse of the clutch that the ramp mechanism is the culprit and is simply rattling away? How much tension/how far in must you pull the lever before the cacaphony disemminates?

dang, wycked- nice point. the heinous wailing increases as lever is released, at whatever rate the lever's released. it subsides at whatever rate the lever is depressed. it's loud and palapble enough to cause grave concern. i'll pull the entire primary around lunch today, ...or before i get back up on the ladder....and see what manner of flotsam is swimmin' 'bout....

Trampster,

I would alternatively recommend some of that thar slickerier than slickerier slynthetic engineered lubricating liquid fluids in the first part of the power transference unit on that two wheeled vehicle.

I couldn't resist

Hey Tramp, are you going to go with the 2006 spring plate/ramp assembly/clutch cable? It retros to your bike & would help with lever effort if you went with an extra plate kit.

at this point, not being sure what, exactly, went ker=splat, i DO know that I'm scheisse-canning any and all spring-plate ideas, and going with 3 extra plates in its' stead.

Yeah; I think I'd go with Fall plates instead of Spring plates. They're a lot more colorful; especially in the Northeast.

I finally found out what my clutch problem is. Clutch release bearing is shot! They don't have one in stock so they are going to have to overnight it. Hopefully I'll get it back tomorrow.

You can get rid of the spring plate by just buying one more friction and two extra steel plates. It makes for a touchy clutch, though (very narrow engagement range). I like it a lot.

When I removed my spring plate at around 15,000 miles it was all loosey-goosey.

I got my bike back today from the dealer. I don't know if the clutch has ever operated this smoothly! It's like butter!

It was $11.00 for the bearing, $47.40 labor and $20.63 for shipping because I had them overnight it. Oh well, it's supposed to be in the mid 70s this weekend. Great riding weather!
