What would make a kick starter freeze up after washing a 4 wheeler? |

A kick starter usually involves a sector gear and a pawl, a spring or two, a dog clutch, etc., to let it engage the motor and then freewheel once the ATV has started. If one of those starter parts broke or jammed that might allow some small amount of movement on the input shaft although the starter is not working. If the starter shaft is absolutely immoveable in either direction, then it is probably a seized bearing in the kickstart shaft. Do you have a service manual to trouble shoot the problem? Also, you might want to note some of the details and ask a dealer. Jack |

Water, oil, or gas in the cylinder, pull the plug and try. Does it push start? |

"Petcock left on, little spec of grit in the needle seat, and cylinders filled with gasoline?" That'd be the first thing I'd check. Pull the sparkplug wire well out of the way (without a sparkplug in it!) before you kick it over. If that's what the problem is, a geyser of gasoline (or water?) will spew from the open sparkplug hole. |

I'd say the cylinder is filled with either gas (Open Petcock) or water from the washing. Years ago a friend washed his Corvette and went to start the car and no go. It was finally determined that one of the cylinders filled with water and another happend to fire. The crankshaft ended up bending due to the inability to compress water. Pull the plug, move the plug wire away (I got another story about that one) and clear out the cylinder. It should run fine after that. |

GOD I LOVE BADWEB! There was at least a half of a gallon of water in there. Probably saved me 200$ in shop fees. I thank you and my son thanks you.

Oh you can wash them!!!! You just find a river thats not too deep and ride through it, then you make it dirty again, then you have to clean it. |

Now would be a good time to change the engine oil, just in case any water got in there. Pressure washers will blow water through grease seals, don't directly spray them, and grease all fittings after washing to push water back out. |
