I am replacing the mainshaft and it has the weird type of snap ring. I have all of the snap ring pliers for the ones that have a hole in them but not this type. I have seen them before but I do not have this specific tool. What specific type of snapring tool is this and where do I get one. I have A LOT of tools but not this one. Thanks for any help.

Bert,

Without a part number it is hard to tell.

Possibly it is the type that has two grooves on the inside of the circle near the open end of the snap ring. If so two small screw drivers will work. I use the screw drivers to squeeze the circle smaller to put the snap ring into place. To remove the snap ring I use them like a tire iron to pop it loose.

I hope this is helpful.

The part # of the tool is in the Buell manual . I just do not know the name of this type snap ring. I have seen them though. I really need to hear from those that have ripped a tranny apart. I know I have. Also this is the first M2 but I have done other trannys including cars and bikes, etc.

I remembering having to run out and get a snap ring pliars to do mine, but that was because it was some kind of monstrously large thing. It was a fairly normal ring, just really big. Can't remember which part it was.

I was looking around for the type of snap ring tool and I had a couple that I was going to buy. As it was I stopped by Sears to look at a battery charger on sale and thought to look at their pliers. What a find, part #47386. This is just what I needed to take this tranny apart/together and a great deal at $15 bucks. It does straight and angled also.
