I just replaced the front cylinder base gasket and now I can't get the bike to start. Cranks strong. I downloaded ECMSPY and purchased a cable to connect to the tech link so I could reset the TPS. I believe I am following the correct steps. When I reset the TPS sometimes it will read 0% and other times .8 - 1.8%. Either way I can't adjust it and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what the reading is. I have also tried a different (ford) TPS. No difference. Also received codes 36, 15, & 44. I can't remember what they are. I think TPS, fan open/low, and ?. I will check the operation of the crank position sensor tomorrow. I feel like the ECMSPY isn't working correctly. Are there updates that need to be performed? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check the obvious things, like battery terminals and grounds. In particular, make sure you got the ground strap for the heim joint for the rear cylinder head to frame mount.

That might not be your problem, but its an easy check.

In my experience, once ECMSpy connects, it is working right. Can you see the throttle position change smoothly with ECMSpy live readings while you turn it?

Make sure you've got fuel and spark. A slight offset in the throttle position shouldn't affect starting. When you crack the throttle a small amount and the bike stumbles like it isn't getting fuel is an example of a TPS offset value issue. It sounds like what you're experiencing is either a complete lack of fuel, or a complete lack of spark.

The bike was only firing on one cylinder. The rear plug cable wasn't connected to the coil under the boot. Now the bike starts, but i still cant adjust the TPS through ECMSPY. It runs very rough. In the overview on ECMSPY it doesnt register rpms or TPS adjustment. When I test the tach under diagnostics nothing comes up. Please help.

Also when i roll the throttle on slow it tops out at 5000rpm and wants to die as soon as i reach 5000rpm. if i let off the throttle it stays running. If i roll the throttle quicker it stalls right out.

Wish I could help you with ECMSpy, but I've never used it. I have the cable etc. but I've never felt the need to tweak anything. She just keeps running.

I would check your intake seals. Sounds like a lean condition. Maybe they slid out of position when you reinstalled the manifold?

If you've changed your TPS offset value during your experimentation with ECMSpy, and you're getting erratic results with readings, I'd find someone who knows how to use ECMSpy really well to help you. Again, wish I could help, but I'm more of a noob with that software that you are. : )

This is stating the obvious, but I think you have two problems... a problem with the bike and a problem with your ECM spy setup. The two may share the same root cause, but may not. That's the first question I'd try to answer.

Got anyone nearby with another ECMSpy dongle and host machine setup that is confirmed working that they could connect to your bike?

Thanks guys for the replies. I think you might be right with the ECMSPY not working correctly. I'll post any new advances in my struggle. I sprayed the intake seals with no change in idle.

you need to solve your TPS reset issue before moving on. No sense checking intake seals until bike is firing on both cylinders.check for codes using the jumper method and reading the blink codes.

There are two people in BRAN (Buell Rider's Assistance Network) in VT, but they haven't logged in in quite a while, so they may not be active.

I would start a new thread in the quickboard and ask for general help with ECMSpy. The quickboard gets a bit more traffic than the KV.

Thanks guys. I'm going to reload the ECMSPY and try again. No codes anymore. If reloading doesnt work I'll start a new thread.

If you haven't come right yet, here is a link to reset the TPS with ECM Spy
