I lowered it about 3/4" or so. It felt stronger from 4K or so, but I had also drilled the airbox at the same time, so...

Somewhere in the archives are a series of pictures from me and (I think) Gonen60's intake modifications. I'll dig them out sometime later.

I'm with 420 on the Corey issue! He has been nothing but honest and up front with me everytime I have spoke to him about XB9 issues. Some people say he hasn't been honest, but have those people actually done business with him or bought his products, it doesn't seem so! All a bunch of people do is play follow the leader and give the guy a hard time. Obviously his products are what they say they are, the numbers and data on this post prove it. So for those of you that can FLY. THE RUN WAY IS CLEAR!

FLAME AWAY

Good for you. I'll happily show you the blatant lies from him I have in my e-mail inbox. They are likewise available for your viewing pleasure on this board as well as others, I'm sure. Like I said, if you're happy with him, go for it. He ain't getting a cent of mine.

Maybe the @#$%head just finally wised up and discovered that it didn't pay to treat such a close-knit group like ignorant morons. Five years from now, if he's still being good, I might, MIGHT consider spending my money on something he dreamed up.

Joe,
You might want to reconsider who you choose to be "with." Donnie has been banned from participation on this site due to repeated and extreme threats of violence against other board members.

Honest and up-front, really? Did he tell you that he likes to masquerade under other usernames and talk up his own products? Did he tell you that his expensive velocity stack system yields 7 or 8 HP when it really only yields 3 HP and that a similar performance gain may be achieved through much simpler and cheaper means (remove snorkel, install K&N filter, drill holes in airbox lid, and/or install XB12 airbox lid)?

I'm not playing follow the leader; I'm calling it like I see it, and I honestly gave Mr. James the benefit of doubt.

When interested participants here questioned his claims of HP, Mr. James saw fit to launch attacks against BadWeB from his msn forum. A forum he sought to promote here as being just a discussion board for XB9 owners, but what in fact turned out to be a mere front for his shady business. That is a lie in my book. He also sought to promote his products here without paying for sponsorship.

He lied about working with Erik Buell.

He lied about the performance gains provided by his product.

He sought to masquerade undetected as another user of this discussion board who raved about his products. He does the same thing on his own msn discussion board.

But hey, if you want to send him your hard-earned money for a product that brings little to nothing towards enhancing the performance of your motorcycle, by all means, please do so.

He also lied about working with NRHS.

He also lied about an affiliation with American Sport Bike.

I also believe that he lied about being partnered with SVHD.

Anyone here make a thermal blanket for their air box yet? Are they for sale anywhere?

PS-do we know if it makes sense to drill holes in the 12 air box lid on a 9?

Beside all the discussions about Mr. James does anybody of You seriously believe that any part developer will ever participate in a contest like this again?

Is there any honor in showing that a system and the technical principal behind it works when the only result is everybody trying to rebuild it with an el cheapo solution ("where can I get this thermal blanket.......)?

Is this worth all the hours of research and development not to mention all the cost?

Did anybody say: thanks guys for doing all the R&D work and sharing Your knowledge?

Probably not.

Additionally right after the contest results are out some people tell that they easily find 12 horses with whatsoever modifications but unfortunately can´t find their dyno sheets. Why haven´t You simply participated in the contest? I´m sure Mark would have tested it even if it was not a velocity stack.

Think about it if You like.

So tell me something folks??? Do we believe that the tests that was done on Cory``````s stack WORKS now and If not can we believe that any of the tests work on any of them stacks or are all the gains from the air box change over etc. ??? AAALso if You say they work..Then will it be the same for the 12 series??? Thanks

I find it hard to believe that tests that are done on the 9 series would be good for the 12 or might make the 12 worst they are two different strokes and BORES which has to come into play if ya ask me??? whats good for the 12 or 9 doesn`t mean it will work as good or any change at all or FOR the worst...???

Same bore, different stroke. Not that it makes much difference. Different engines anyway...

It's known fact that cool air/fuel makes more power. I'm sure that a chopped up 12box w/ a thermal mat would have desirable results. As far as eliminating the dip in mid range power... I have a 12 and don't need to worry about it. I'll get some thermal material and reproduce the system. Not because I don't respect the designer's knowledge or his time, but because of shady business practices.

I'm certainly not one of the "elder" members of this board, but I do remember the stuff that came from the Brion-James company. I'll respectfully decline to do business with them. IF they were the pioneers of the physics behind cool air actually working I might give them some of my money for that research, but to just take a proven method of power enhancement, add a pretty piece of metal and tell people that it's the stack that gives the power increase (that's the lion's share of the price right?) is shady if you ask me.

bore xb9 = xb12 = m2 = x1 = s1 = s3

the bore is all the same
only the xb 9 uses a shorter stroke

1420cc or 88" with case boring though.

NRHS has a 1250 kit that does not need Case boring.

Personally, I think I'll go to the largest bore I can get and use a custom lightweight crank to get me to 1350. Maybe not though if the fuel delivery system will require massive amounts of work.

Got to learn to type faster…

And my two cents to the whole story…..

Get on your freaking bike and ride the crap out off it

Shees… all that fuss about 3 to 6 hp……
Calling names and all

If you really want power get your self’s a pair off stage 3 heads / big bore/ and a delfi or mad2 injection

It’s very nice to see that there some guys put very much effort in to making the most out off a velocity stack/ inlet ….
But the buell fish pond is to small for all the fisherman to have a good meal out off a stack..
And I’m very sure if that nobody will pick up the bill for all the testing and dished proto type’s

As I said just my 2 cents

Yeah i know , it’s a shame that the ratio power / money is not 1/1 : )

I think the power/ money ratio is about the same as the decibel rate

2 step up the ladder and its twice as loud/ expensive

I am a bit surprised, to be honest, what different Feedback the results of the Velocity Stack Challenge are. I understand that contest as a chance to let share Buellriders worldwide from our expiriences and of course to present our product. If we were not sure to have a very good chance to win that challenge we never had participate, and by the way, we had never offered that product.

We start riding the first FAST Prototypes 8 weeks after the first XB 9 was avaiable in Germany, in the following time we have done a lot of different prototypes, thousands of miles road- and racetracktesting with Lambdarecording and (til today including the XB 12 and all the different Exhaustsystems) nearly 100 Dynoruns to develope the right measurements for 9 & 12 and positioning of the Airintakesensor. From more than 120 buyers of the System 118 are 100% happy (you finished what Erik started...) 1 say it didn´t work and 1 say it is too loud for him.

I personally have not a problem when people try to get solutions cheaper, but the US Price with 269$ for a K&N Filter, a big milled piece of aluminium and a lovely handcrafted matt from the Saddlery gives you between 4 and 7 crankshaft Horsepower depending what bike, what ECM and what Exhaust. That is sure the greatest return of invest in Horsepower what you could get for that small money.

Showing Dynos is a subject of special regulations, the biggest lyiers have the best results. Showing crankshaft as Rearwheel Power, 10 or 12 extra Horsepower with a supadupa special Raceexhaust, 2 more with "BURNMEDOWN" mega sparkplugs, another 3 by ZERORESISTANCE-WARP II Ignitionwires and when you than invest in the end in a Stage IIIV Raceheadporting you have in the adition 130 RW HP and you burn down the Buellfactory Team ....... (-:

Look at our Dynocharts for the FAST System and also please watch the overview of all Exhaustsystems. You will find out that we are not able to find more than 10 HP with Air- and Exhausttuning, and also that depending from the used configuration on some exhausts the torque will fall in the midsection against the stock exhaust.

http://www.hillbilly-motors.com/html/fast_dynos.html

Maybe showing truth results cost us business, but as long as I run that business we will (not like some of our competitors selling unproofed parts they have never used) test, test and test again.

On the road -SURPRISE! -my wife and me we ride our Buells -RSS, S1 and XB´s- thousands of miles on european roads each year for testing new products, and we are engaged with Racebikes on the Racetrack and on the Dragstrip.

By the way, I still miss a dynochart with XB9 / XB12 Airboxtop conversion ?

Our company, and at least not Mark Geoffrey (I´ve never seen him, never talk to him) have any need to tell the untruth. So please accept his engagement and our hard work.

If the flag drops, the Bullshit stops!

In that way, ride safe and have Fun.

The cool thing is I can buy a 9, slap on a 12 airbox, swisscheese a 9 airbox, slap on an exhaust, and get some gains. The cooler thing about say, the FAST system, or going to Aaron, Pammy and Wes, et. al. is, and listen closely here folks I get exactly what they advertised and I don't have to do the guesswork or the dyno runs or the research!!!
Remember, you only get HP when you eliminate what's holding you back. Cams, heads, and a big bore kit don't do diddly if you don't have an intake and exhaust that'll handle it. Personally I don't have the time and money to fiddle around and spend my saturdays having dyno runs done on the latest array of drill holes. I'd rather buy a system that works, and is proven to work. Time is $$, after all.

Alex, we knew about the thermal blanket idea long ago. While some people (myself included) will spend their own time and money tinkering around trying to replicate something that another company made for their own benefit, that doesn't mean that it's not worth the company's while to make them in the first place.

For me, it's less the money that I'll save than it is just the time spent working on my bike. I LIKE doing that, and if I can spend two hours working on it in the interests of more power rather than routine maintenance, even better.

I inquired about the FAST system months and months ago. I was very impressed with Jens' honesty and quick responses, but I already have a 12 airbox sitting in my living room as well as a new stock velocity stack. Why would I spend $250+ when I'm pretty much positive I can get similar results just by adding those two pieces that I already own? Adding a blanket to keep the intake air cooler is a cheap, logical next progression.

Also, there are certain things that I do not like about all of the systems presented in this test. Some are more insurmountable than others, but suffice to say that I have the time and the motivation to do something similar that does not include any of the things that I see as potential issues.

I will second Glitch's statement, though - Thank you, Jens, for stepping up and proving (again, to me) that you and Hillbilly Motors are worth supporting. The truth only hurts those that refuse to tell it!
