I usually shy away from asking questions at a business when I'm not planning on sending any $$ their way in the short term. I talked to both, both suggested further contact points. In the end, Dan at NRHS gave me what I think the shop really wanted -- hone to a 280 grit/finish. (I'm sure I've butchered something there...).   Mesozoic Posted on Wednesday, September 09, 2009 - 06:53 pm:        Iron rings are fine, but moly is a better material due to its porous nature. It will hold oil a bit better due to this, but both materials are suitable. The thing you should probably steer clear of are chrome rings as they are designed for engines run in very dusty environments.
