Brake light doesn't come on when front brake lever is applied. I apply twelve volts to switch terminals and move mechanism in and out and it works. I cross female terminals with the power on and brake light comes on. WTF.

check carefully. sometime, due to corrosion, the switch will work in a very short part of its full travel.....think of it as going "over center". some electrical contact cleaner may make it work better. give it a try.............

It was the switch. Checked it again and it was weak when I applied the 12 volts to it. Funny, I have an 86 GSXR and never had a problem with the brake light switch. I hate cheap components. Thanks for the help.

I've been though 2 already. Good thing is they only cost about $10.00 and take 30 seconds to change.

It seems to be related to riding in a HEAVY HEAVY Rain.

I think I've ridden that bike in the rain once. No, it's just a cheap switch.

A generous application of contact cleaner fixed that issue for me once. Seven years later, the same switch is still working perfectly on '97 Cyclone.

Well now,

My front brake light indicator stopped working. I hit the brakes and no indicator....NO BRIGHT BRAKE LIGHT! had to use the rear to let the SUV racing lunatics know I was slowing. Went to sporttwin. The dude FMAXWELL stated that you could cross Buell brake switches with Japanese switches. Google Y0810.9 already.....Anyway, he, with plenty of caveats, said to check out a Suzuki 57460-17C01. Now, I REALLY needed a switch for a 2007 XB12Stt. I won't tell you what happened. My closest Buell dealer is a 90 mile round trip. My favorite dealer is a 155 mile round trip. My local metric dealer is a 15 mile round trip. My real favorite Buell dealer is a 10 mile round trip, but they don't sell Buells any more. Anyway, I won't tell you what happened when I bought a Suzuki front brake relay.....but I am pretty happy with Suzuki!

Go with one of the Sponsors and find a new favorite Buell dealer. Oh, and they can just ship the parts to you and you can spend your gas money riding to your favorite places instead of a parts run. I've worked with Hal's and had good luck.

Try just cleaning the existing switch. Same thing happened to me years ago on my '97 Cyclone; I removed the switch, blasted it with electrical contact cleaner, problem solved. Still working today.

Thanks!

I'll give that a try.

I replaced the front brake switch, and the rear light bulb receptacle, bulb, but still no brake light! Am I missing something? Or is it time to go down the wires to check for a break? I do have running lights.

The one on my Cyclone has a breather/weep hole. I blasted it's insides via that hole.

What happens if you jumper the switch?

Rear brake activates brake light okay?

If so, then issue is in front switch circuit.

Also check that switch is being adequately engaged/actuated at front brake lever. I've seen that issue before after adjusting levers and switchgear.
