going back to what i had said before that the clutch cable has a small leak (meaning i road about 30 mile and parked it overnight and only had a drop leak out) what is use as clutch fluid and where does it go? sorry dont have a user manual yet working on that so figured i would go to the experienced riders here for help and is there both a 2003 blast and 2003 blast p3, if so how do i tell the dif? seems like i can only find manuals for p3. | ||

In answer to your question, the clutch cable fitting at the tranny/primary cover uses an o-ring to achieve a seal and prevent tranny/primary oil from leaking out. The transmission/primary drive lubricant is oil, either one of Harley-Davidson's OEM transmission lubricants or a good synthetic engine oil. See your owner's manual for what is applicable. You may need a new o-ring or just to slightly tighten that fitting. Be careful, it's just tapped threads in cast aluminum. You do NOT want to overtorque that fitting. Good luck. If you do over torque it, the threaded part of the cable will break. The cable is then shot. Don't ask how I know (no it wasn't me for a change...). | ||

the hd trans fluid wouldnt be white? would it? after talking to a few ppl and someone looking at it it seems as though it might be the lube inside the cable itself ( like grease or something like that) need to get a manual for the bike its a 2003 and the guy i got it from couldnt find it. i am looking for a good place to download the manual if you have any suggestions or other ideas about the clutch thing. kinda wondering if i need to take it to have the dealer look at it going into first seems ruff at time it grinds other times it is fine and only in first. | ||

If the HD Sport Trans fluid has water in it, it can look creamy / whitish. Not sure about the new synthetic stuff, have not noticed it white yet. | ||

It'll turn white cause it's whipped with air and condensation. Fairly common, especially if you don't ride for long distances on the freeway. It's not your cable lube... If you can take the cap off of toothpaste you can replace the o-ring. Go replace the o-ring and be done with it... Your grinding could be a poorly adjusted clutch cable (likely) or a poorly adjusted primary chain (also likely). Now go to the dealer, get a parts book, a Factory Service Manual, your o-ring and some tools if you don't have any. Let us know how it turns out. | ||

thanks for all the help everyone. that it one thing that i look forward to is being able to learn how to work on this bike and do most things myself. my 15 month old seems to like it too.  | ||

You can find links to 2005 and later Buell owner's manuals on the Knowledge Vault - Manuals... - Buell Motorcycle Owner's Manuals page and also atop the main page of the Thumper Forum.  I don't know of any major changes to the Buell Blast from 2003 to 2005, so the 2005 owner's manual should get you what you need for now. |
