This is sort of a wish list - trying to come up with a plan on how to get it done.

Background: I have two Buell's right now (an M2 and an XB12R) - but have an order in for an 1125R. I would like a transferable solution.

More background: I do a LOT of overnight rides - not quite a full bore touring rider - but touring would be the best way to describe how I ride the bike in my spare time. Otherwise - my bikes are commuters.

Wish list:
Cell phone useage
GPRS - I tend to let the bike decide where I am going - and SOMETIMES, she gets it wrong
Radio - I like to listen to talk radio often
MP3 - I like to listen to what I like
Radar detector - honest officer, I use it to get advance notice of road construction
Heated gear: I have a couple of heated things - would be nice to consolidate places to plug in with a properly sized fuse

Ok - so - looking for ideas on how to get all this done.

I THINK I want some sort of console that allows me to power everything from one connector. I would prefer to use a BlueTooth speaker/mic to hear the various prompts, cell phone, radar detector alerts, music/talk radio etc.

Oh yeah - and I want to be able to use the same setup across at least 3 bikes.

So... has anyone done anything like this? If so - looking for specific parts/suppliers/pointers.

Thanks,

Your wants and needs sound similar to what I was trying to work with on my Dyna. Here is a recent thread where I described how I did that:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=142838&post=975837#POST975837

It has worked out real good for me. With that I can disconnect the single pair that goes into the tank bag, from the connector in the tank bag, slip the wire out, and walk away with it all.

Using the relay and switching it all on and off with the Accessory position means I can't kill my battery by accident (or stupidity). And it is all safe and sound electrically.

Feel to email me at "jacker at midmaine dot com" if you want more detail or even photos.

I used something similar on my M2, it can become an issue of sorts on the XB's because they don't lend themselves to tank bags quite as well as did the M2 and my Dyna now.

How much of this stuff do you already own?

If I had to start again from scratch, then Garmin Zumo 550 and latest Autocom would serve as my moto-gadgets foundation:

Garmin - GPS Nav, MP3, XM radio, Bluetooth phone interface

Autocom - Bluetooth, radar input, VOX bike-to-bike if required, additional music sources if desired.

My own preference is wired helmet connection for speakers and mic via Autocom. I currently use XM Roady2, iPod, and Garmin Rino (GPS + FRS radio), and the combination works great.

For power supply, there are many good solutions. My wife and I use Centech AP-1 aux fuse panels on our Beemers to supply gadgets, heated gear, and aux lights.

Lack of underseat space on the Buell XB might force a different solution. When riding XB, I use a messenger bag with battery-powered electronics (Autocom Easy-7 connected to iPod and phone).

I have heated gloves already (the ones from the Harley catalog). They work OK but not as rain proof as I would like. Light mist they are fine - a drenching leaves your hands soaked.

I use the Chatterbox AM/FM radio and headset. It is battery only. I have a blue tooth enabled phone - but do not have a blue tooth helmet speaker/mic.

I have a couple of different radar detectors - both use the same earphone.

What I think would be cool would be to route the stuff I do have (radio, radar detector, cell phone) to a blue tooth relay - and add a blue tooth mic/headset to the helmet.

The same relay would serve as a power supply to the things I have plugged into it.

It would be great if I could also plug in a heated vest and maybe the gloves as well.

I am also looking at the GPS stuff - torn between the Tom Tom and the Garmin Zumo.

"..torn between the Tom Tom and the Garmin Zumo..."

Having used both Tom Tom and Garmin GPS receivers (not the zumo yet though) I'd give the nod to the zumo.

It has more and better mapping available and is much easier to use off the bike for planning routes in advance and having full control of routing.

And if you want to be able to save tracks on your travels for later use/analysis, the Tom Tom units simply will not do any of it.

I bought the Nolan helmet and was going to go for the N-Com system. I am opting for the Autocom just in case I want music later. N-Com is mono only. The Autocom is hardwired to your helmet but is a much nicer system and noise canceling is awesome.

Check out the Camos 600 bluetooth headset. I have my phone and mp3 player w/radio connected to it at the same time and it can serve as an intercom to a passenger with one too.
