+1 I'm running Rob Crins RSS and the fan rarely comes on anymore. Balances out the look too. Haven't wrapped my pipes and don't plan on doing it. | ||

RSS and Odie's RS heat shield. The 2 together work great. Heat was at a completely unacceptable level before. Better now. Fan runs less and when it does get got, Odie's shields helps. I was ready to get the pipes coated, but have decided to wait. Bret | ||

I have the RSS, but still heat is an issue..who is Odie? how do I get in touch? Thanks, Rodger.. Would getting the pipes ceramic coated help with the heating issue? My seat gets SO freakin' hot!! (Message edited by packrat on August 24, 2007) | ||

If your seat is getting hot contact Odie about a heat barrier/blanket for under the seat that will reflect the heat back down away from your tingley bits. No one likes toasted "walnuts"! I made a heat barrier similar to his for under my seat, because I happened to have a piece of heat barrier from a Suzuki that I could adapt, and wrapped my pipes (but that was to protect my fairing and paint from getting scorched) and have not had an issue with heat since. a lot of people on the board have wrapped their headers with no ill effects. | ||

I'm on my second RSS, my first one was for my '03 XB9S, the second one is for my XB12XT. On the '03, the RSS reduced the fan use by as much as 75%. I really didn't have much issue with heat, per se. However, the reduced fan was more than enough to convince me that "something" was working... On the XB12XT, I ended up using a combination of things... The RSS from American Sport Bike, Odie's RS heat blanket (made by and called "Maximum") plus I used Exhaust Wrapping. The combination of all three, made the heat issue a faint memory... I for one believe in the RSS. I know Buell "officially" has responded in a FUEL editorial that they found no need for one.. Well, I'm convinced otherwise. I have the Heat shield, RSS and wrapped the pipes..STILL HOT on 90 degree + days, which we have a LOT of down heah in Jawjuh. And I mean hot enough you wanna stand up on the pegs like every 5 miles to cool off the boys.. I bought a Select seat, and since that heat is just barely noticeable!!!! Sure, I'm not flat-footed at stops anymore (XB12Scg), but at least I can ride now without wanting to stop every 20 minutes to cool my A$$ off. In my particular case, the seat was the only thing that made any difference, as far as I could tell. And fwiw, I thought the pipes looked cool wrapped. on bike pix I'd seen..after I did mine, and looked at it for a week or so, I wished I hadn't wrapped them...just my $.02 | ||

I heat wrapped the headers on my 06 Ulysses. The heat problem is a little better but is still very uncomfortable. This will be nice in the winter but needs to be addressed for summer ridding. I'm currently looking for other options to solve problem. | ||

I Jet-hot coated my header and put Odie's heat shield under the seat. The only time I notice the heat on the right leg is when in the city going 30-35 mph. I'm working on the RSS, hoping for the fix. | ||

I added a RSS from Rob Crins and love it! The fan has not kicked on while riding since I installed it, where as it did several times during the summer heat in stock configuration. The only time the fan kicks on anymore is when I shut it off, and that's only after a lot of putting around in town or riding down the highway with a 30+ mph tail wind. (yes, it really does happen in Kansas...) Heat kills oil, so I like to keep it at reasonable levels. Ceramic coating the header may be a future improvement. | ||

I have the Spec-Ops heat shield and not only has it cooled of the walnuts, it seems to have helped with the right thigh issue. Not sure why it helped with the right side, but it does. I would wrap my pipes if I were a little more mechanically adept. As far as the RSS goes, there's alot of good points on it good and bad. I would sujest doing a search on this sight to form your own conclusion. | ||

Been running the RSS for just over 2 years now,it's great when you can ram the air into in at speed,but on a stinkin hot day,and doing what you guys call parade work,in a pack,foget it,the original scoop will keep it cooler,because the fan can force the air around the rear pot,with the RSS and no speed the air just moves away from the cylinder head and super heats the area around your leg,I do still however use the RSS and don't do any slow riding if I can help it,I did have Odies heat shields on but removed them due to not being able to push enough air out the back of my bike,this was just my opinion,Odies blankets are top stuff and deserve to be used,in the end I put a set of Buell's heat deflectors onto the Uly and this has also helped in a small way. No matter what we do it will never be cool,these air cooled motors run hot regardless,so i just live with it now. | ||

Does anyone know how to get Special OPS to call you back? I would like to purchase a heat blanket. I have a 08 Uley and have been trying for a couple weeks to order the max blanket. Is there something else or some where else to get a heat blanket? | ||

Packrat What sort of exhaust are you running? If the scoop doesn't make it cooler, it could be lean running at around 4000 RPM. Worth me asking. I know a couple of Jardines on XB12s that run a bit hotter and ping a bit more than stock, especially in traffic. The bike may need turing to get more benefit from the scoop. | ||

I insulated the right frame rail /tank and the bottom of the seats front portion with Maier (?) stick ons; wrapped the pipes down to a couple inches above the collector and switched to synthetic. The really great fix was a little automotive peel-n-stick weatherstrip on top of the frame / below the seats front edges (stopped the blast of hot air I was getting at certain speeds). Now the only heat I'm feeling is on my right front shin as the wind blows past the collector. BUT, I will install the new rider comfort kit when I get my hands on one. | ||
