I recently posted a problem I was having with my 2001 M2, ie. puking trans fluid out the vent tube onto my tire while riding on the interstate. Received good advice. I went to this section and saw alot of posts about using AMSOIL and Mobil 1 for the trans/primary fluid. Is there a specific trans fluid or do you use the same Mobil 1 4VT (synthetic engine oil)? I bought REVTEC gear & chaincase fluid (for Sportsters)(it was recommended by the shop who services my bike). I would appreciate any input. Because Im not riding until I fix the "puking" problem (despite the large amount of oil, kept it upright). Thx!} | ||

I'd be careful on what you put into the Trans because this is a wet clutch environment. H-D spec is the "Sport Trans" fluid, now in reality it's not transmission fluid that you would think of in terms of what a car or gear case uses, this stuff is more like a straight weight 30 motor oil with very little additives. Are you sure the oil is not coming from the crank case, not trans? Do the standard checks on your transmission, make sure bike is VERY LEVEL, perhaps use a wheel stand, motor should be cool, then check your trans fluid level, over filling is typically the problem and make sure hyvo chain is properly free play. I had the same problem with my S3 and fixed it as follows. Look at how the trans vent hose is routed. Ideally it needs to be laid out so that it always points uphill with no dips where vapors can condense and collect and get "burped" out. If you can terminate it near the taillight, that should solve your problem. Worked for me. | ||

S3TBOLT: THE TRANS FLUID I, REFERRING TO IS REVTECH TRANS/PRIMARY AND CHAINCASE LUBE FOR SPORTSTERS. I PLAN ON CHANGING THE PRI/TRANS FLUID TOMORROW AND REPLACE IT WITH 27-28 OZ OF THE REVTECH. IM GOING TO RIG UP A CATCH BOTTLE ON THE END OF MY TRANS VENT TUBE (WITH A HOLE IN THE TOP SO NOT TO CREATE A PLUGGED TUBE). IM GOING TO RUN IT ON THE INTERSTATE (THATS WHERE IT PUKES). IF I DONT PUKE I'M PROBABLY REPLACE IT WITH MOBIL V-TWIN 20W-50 (AS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY FELLOW OWNER. THX, I'LL LET U KNOW. | ||

S3TBOLT: I THOUGHT IT WAS ENGINE OIL TOO. WHEN I WENT TO JOHNS-V-TWIN, SAVANNAH, GA FOR A POKER RUN, I ASKED JOHN (HE OWNS 3 BUELLS), HE CORRECTED ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE TRANS VENT TUBE. WE CHANGED IT THERE BUT HE USED A FULL QT OF REVTECH FLUID. NUMEROUS POSTING ON THIS SITE STATE NO MORE THAN 28 OZ. SO ILL PUT 26-28 OZ ON SATURDAY. IM KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED. IF THATS NOT IT, THEN IT MUST BE THE GASKET. SUX! | ||

I've got a wrenching session with my bike tomorrow, I'm going to take a close look at the line routing and let you know what I see, I've got 10 years of no problems in this area with my ride... But tomorrow is another story...front brake. | ||

S3TBOLT: WELL CHANGED THE TRANS FLUID. USED THE REVTECH STUFF (CHEAPER THAN THE MOBIL 1.. IN CASE IT PUKES. I MEASURED THE OUT PUT WAS 24 OZ. I SAW THE MECH PUT IN A QUART. I KNOW THE IS SOME RESIDUAL..I LET IT DRAINED FOR HOURS. I ALSO RIGGED UP A CHEESY CATCH BOTTLE. DRILLED A HOLE IN A SMALL PLASTIC COKE BOTTLE CAP. SLID IT OVER THE VENT TUBE. I THEN ATTACHED THE BOTTLE TO THE CAP. I THEN CUT A HOLE IN THE TOP SO NOT TO CREATE A VACUUM. I RODE 8 MILES TO THE INTERSTATE (65MPH) AND 24 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE(80 MPH) AND THEN BACK. NO PUKING, NOT A DROP! WHEN I ADDED THE REVTECH I ONLY ADDED APPROX 24-25 OZ. SO IM DEBATING IF I SHOULD ADD 1-2 OZ. I RIDE A FEW MORE TIMES BEFORE I CHANGE THE REVTECH AND USE MOBIL 1 V-TWIN.
