Author Message   Oz666 Posted on Thursday, May 22, 2003 - 09:33 pm:        I need to know if anyone knows the part number for the rubber boot on the larger bolt (front) of the rear brake caliper - specifically on a '98 S3T. The part is not listed in my parts book. The dealer (American HD in Buffalo) says to get it, I would have to order a new caliper assembly! I think they might be wrong. Since it is a boot covering the "sliding" pin of the rear caliper, and its purpose is to prevent the infiltration of debris and assure brake operation; I would really like to replace it with the correct part. The boot actually attaches to the caliper support bracket in a lip on the outboard side of the front bolthole, so the purchase of a caliper assembly would not include the boot unless the assembly also includes the support bracket. I was hoping a board member might have run into this situation and could save me many dollars in phone calls and fuel and many days of frustration, again. After returning to the dealer today, and asking them to call BCS, I was informed that the dust boot is only available from BMC as a part of the carrier assembly, rear brake - which I believe (unconfirmed) also includes the small bolt and larger bolt/slider pin. I did, however, strike pay dirt after visiting several foreign motorcycle dealers. The Buell dust boot is IDENTICLE in every way to Kawasaki part # 49006-1242. Many thanks to Joe Hebeler of Hebeler’s Kawasaki in Pendelton, New York for digging through his parts bins on a Friday before Memorial Day weekend to find it for me. He told me he would order a couple extra boots to stock in case anyone else needs them. If you are too embarrassed to go to your local Kaw shop, or they don’t have the part, Joe told me he would be glad to ship it.
