Brian,

I think I might have those, I'll look for them tomorrow.

That are for the rectangular soft bags that fasten to a Velco piece that drapes across the tail section under the seat. They had a bracket that went up under the fender and adjustable straps that went down to the passenger peg mounts. Let me know if that does not sound right for yours.

Yep ! That sounds about right, with the exception of adjustable straps that are hid in the 'lid' of the bags that seem the right fit for attaching a tailbag (the Buell tailbag I have would attach right to them, which is nice as it eliminates the extra straps used with the tailbag.

Thanks !

Okay, the saddle bags I had were the "BUELL M2 CYCLONE BALLISTIC SADDLEBAG KIT 90509-99Y". And the hidden straps you mention are there too.

Here is a link to the sheet of instructions that came with them:

That is a full sized scan, if you save the image and print it you'll have a copy that is as legible as mine is.

Okay, here is the rest of my saga on saddlebags, seats, and M2's.

I found some notes I had been keeping when I had the M2. My M2 was a 2000 with the original and standard factory saddle. When I got the saddlebags, I was not able to get the seat remounted after I put the bags on the bike.

The problem was that, with the added thickness of the saddlebag harness, the threaded "wing screw" that holds the seat on was just a little too short to reach up and engage the threaded insert in the bottom of the seat. It lacked about 1/4" or so of being long enough. So damn close, but just would not reach.

Shortly after I encountered another Buell M2 owner with a 2001 model and we got to talking saddlebags and my problem with the bags.

We took out seats off and were comparing the tail sections and seats on the 2000 and 2001 models. The seats swapped back and forth easily from his bike to mine and vice versa and the seat pan areas on the tail sections looked identical. But the screw on my M2 engaged his seat sooner and his seat would have worked on my 2000 M2 with the bags in place.

We finally spotted the difference. The plastic pan his seat was built on was lightly different than mine. The area where threaded insert was mounted on the bottom of the seat had been changed to make it slightly lower. The metal insert was in a small sort of rectangular area that made the insert set lower.

Here area photos of the area in question on the bottom of the seat:

The "BUELL M2" marking seen there is the only marking on the seat, no other parts numbers are on it.

If your seat is flat in the area where the metal insert is, you may have trouble getting the seat mounted with those saddlebags.

I later bought one of those seats, it comes in a box marked "M0086.LA SEAT. W/RUB PAD, M2 09/10/02" but I am not certain what year model the seat is intended for.

Thanks Jack for all the info, I may have to go outside and play around a bit with the new info in hand. I will let you know how it all works for me -

As far as the straps fitting under the seat - I can still screw my seat down with them under it .. BUT .. I think these were designed to be simply thrown over the seat and then snugged down, don't really like that idea but I will only be using them in conjunction with the tailbag attached. We will see either way.

Thanks again,
Brian

You're right about the bags draping over the seat, that is mentioned in the instructions.

But I liked the way they fit and looked better when mounted under the seat.

I never did use my bags. I was having some real problems with "lead butt" on the stock seat, I could not spend more than an hour on the bike without severe discomfort.

I eventually bought a used Corbin seat on eBay that was firmer and larger and it solved that problem. I never did get around to taking a trip of any length on the M2 but the Corbin seat was good for three or four hour rides.
